If anyone outside ILX is following this poll they will be thinking ILM is full of nutters into crazy weirdo music

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

outsiders OTM

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

fwiw there were a LOT of crazy weirdo nominations for this poll.

billstevejim, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

hehe, my friend is doing this right now and that's pretty much what he said.

Oh Foetus, where have you been all my life?

Neckbeard's Castle (Mr Andy M), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

Apart from "Rock Box" and "I Love A Man In Uniform", this list is a million trillion light years away from what I was listening to in the 80s. This is mostly due to my hard line "guitar music is DEAD" stance, which ran from 1984 to 1991. Or, as AG put it to me on Twitter: "YOU ARE PAUL WELLER!!!" With that in mind, I'm following this countdown with a mixture of bafflement, curiosity, and not the faintest clue as to what will place next.

mike t-diva, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

I think they are both great (Epic and From out of Nowhere)... they work perfectly on the album w/ FooN as an opener leading into Epic. Hope The Real Thing places high on the albums poll!

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

What was #190?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

And it was a tie with

#189 F/i - Why Not Now? Alan! 250 Points, 4 Votes

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:37 (thirteen years ago)

Mike I know most of these songs/bands and I'm still baffled with what will place next (and I have the results in front of me)

Good luck predicting anything. And the albums poll doesn't really resemble this one so good luck with that when it comes later in week.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:39 (thirteen years ago)

I can't post the spotify for F/i as its just a url for my local files. Hellhouse might be able to if the album is available in the usa.

Also YAY F/i!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:40 (thirteen years ago)

my age was single digits throughout the 80s, so the only result between 250-189 that i actually knew prior to 1990 was "living on a prayer."

billstevejim, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)

The way we're going this will finish on weds!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)

I reckon Asbestos Lead Asbestos could finish in the top 100. Or only two of us have voted for it and it hasn't placed.

passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

I am pretty sure I voted ALA

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

Funnily enough..

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)

Clothes Hoist!

I voted for ALA too.

stirmonster, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

although I don't think I voted for "Assimilate" lol

(pretty sure I picked "The Choke" and "Tin Omen")

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

Haha I voted for the other 2 skinny puppy tracks and not those 2. Teamwork!

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like we're all in an episode of 120 Minutes

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

"Fascist Jock Itch" was one of my nominations but I couldn't actually vote for it, not for all the "ARYAN YAHOO"s in the world

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

(had it been an actual Ministry track I would likely be more kindly disposed towards it)

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

you guys should have done some real teamwork then. read into that what you will

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:00 (thirteen years ago)

btw are we Anti-Rolling Stone Canon yet? Or do you think as we get near the top ILM becomes The Rolling Stone Canon?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)

actually this is pretty much par for the course, jjj and me liking completely different songs by the same band except for, like, Bjork songs and "Headhunter"

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

and "The Days of Swine and Roses"

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

I think I would like Fishbone more if stuff like Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake hadn't happened between then and now - I can't help hearing them through that lense, which is obv pretty unfair to them. Party At Ground Zero is not bad anyway.
Liking the Skinny Puppy tune a lot. In terms of stuff that's been new to me, the industrial-leaning stuff has provided a lot of my faves from the countdown so far, which has surprised me somewhat.

YouTube for F/i - Why Not Now?...Alan!:

http://youtu.be/28J11ta3Eao

I nominated both this tune and Clothes Hoist, but I'm really pissed to see the F/i so low. it was a top 5 track f/me, and is IMO one of the best psych tunes ever. F/i hammer away at an extended rave-up until it gradually gels into a hypnotic wash of floating and grinding guitars just barely anchored to the rhythm. an exceptional intersection of noise rock and psych that should really be about twenty minutes long. takes a couple minutes to get going, though, so feel free to skip to 2:00 in the vid (ha!).

Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

F/i rule I love them, but tbh I thought George & I were the only ones on here who did so I AM pleased to see them here.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)

Hmmm with Skinny Puppy placing I wonder if Queensryche has a chance, not that they're similar musically they just both have a small minority of rabid fans.

And Party at Ground Zero is an all time jam, TOO LOW!!!

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

I wonder what gospodin simmels friend thinks now

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

A huge shock next btw

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)

we all thought this was top 10 for sure

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)

I have to be one of the biggest Queensryche 'fans' here and they only made #34 on my tracks ballot. "Queen of the Reich" would have also placed if I could have picked 100 tracks. Operation: Mindcrime made the top 10 of my albums ballot, which almost guarantees it a placing in the top 250, right?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)

Never said I was doing a top 250 for albums

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

Huh, I actually enjoyed "Clothes Hoist".

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

Why Not Now?..Alan! is some intense stuff for sure.

Neckbeard's Castle (Mr Andy M), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I don't know why I never heard of F/i before.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

Sadly we only got 493 albums with votes so cant do a top 500...

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

F/i rule I love them, but tbh I thought George & I were the only ones on here who did so I AM pleased to see them here.

that particular F/i track placing below Party at Ground Zero, a fucking Taco Bell jingle unfit even for disgusting savages, is a "you're dead to me" moment.

DEAD! BAH!

*shakes fist*

Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

I can't find much info on F/i. Nothing about them on AMG, other than just a list of recordings, no apparent Wikipedia entry.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)

Oh nm there's something on progarchives.
