Neal Halstead and Neil Hagerty, for some reason.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to get the Mekons and the Membranes confused, but don't seem to have that problem anymore.

The last few years or so.

*sigh*

jazz odysseus, Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Wolf Eyes Black Eyes Black Dice Wolf Parade AIDS Wolf Black Lips

Elliot (Elliot), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

GBV and MBV, but only in acronym form. Makes for some very confusing posts.

Replacements and Rembrandts, upon a time. I was aghast for a while that the 'Mats had reformed just to make the 'Friends' theme, before I realized my error.

Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel, because they're both overbearing ponces.

There's a band like Six By Seven that's Six From Seven or something, that I get mixed up with.

derrick (derrick), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to mix up Townes Van Zandt and Van Dyke Parks a lot. I mean, not the music, but those triple name things.

And because Pig Destroyer did a track called "Black Dice" every time I see something about Black Dice I have to take a second to remember that they're not Pig Destroyer. If you see what I mean.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

GvsB = GBV

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

malkmus and momus

Bob Six (bobbysix), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was a kid I had a deep-rooted association between the voice of Bruce Springsteen and and the image Sylvester Stallone. To this day I have no idea why.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 18 April 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 18 April 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Replacements and Rembrandts, upon a time
...and add The Refreshments to that list, while you're at it.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"It doesn't help matters when the Thrills insist upon pronouncing their name as the Trills." Pronouncing it as The Trills is so much easier! And being too precise is just so uncool.

coco rammstein, Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan Adams-Brian Adams, or is it Bryan Adams. That's worse.

Alex Pittman (Alex Pittman), Sunday, 18 April 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan Adams-Brian Adams, or is it Bryan Adams? That's worse.

black dice - wolf eyes - black eyes - black keys - the kills etc etc

senior pizzicarta, Sunday, 18 April 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Funeral for a Friend/Hell is for Heroes. I don't mind one of them, but I can never remember which one it is.

Also the Vines and the Hives.

(I used to conflate Bill Callaghan and Will Oldham, but that was justifiable confusion given how bastard often Oldham changes his stagename. honest.)

cis (cis), Sunday, 18 April 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the Flaming Lips and the Psychedelic Furs.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 18 April 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

meat puppets and material issue

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 18 April 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I've gotten Yo La Tengo and the Flaming Lips mixed up on the basis of their album covers (perhaps a new thread?).

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Monday, 19 April 2004 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Whitesnake / White Lion
Black Crows / Counting Crows

It would probably help if I had any of these in my collection.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 19 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Dream Theatre vs. (get this) Dream Academy

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Monday, 19 April 2004 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Everclear vs. Everlast, though thankfully I haven't confused them in a while because it's been so long since I've thought about either of them.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Monday, 19 April 2004 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Steely Dan vs. Stealer's Wheel
Soul Asylum vs. Collective Soul

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Monday, 19 April 2004 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Harold Budd and Roy Budd

Curt (cgould), Monday, 19 April 2004 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin Rev and Alan Vega: And don't try to tell me their names aren't similar. Both have two syllable first names that are also common last names, and short last names with "v"s in them and automotive associations.

Curt (cgould), Monday, 19 April 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Hollywood Brats/Hollywood Stars/Berlin Brats

Arthur (Arthur), Monday, 19 April 2004 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

You know, like Steve Alan, Woodie Alan....

Curt (cgould), Monday, 19 April 2004 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to mix up Townes Van Zandt and Van Dyke Parks a lot. I mean, not the music, but those triple name things.

Same here, that's why I was amazed when Van Dyke Parks ended up working with Brian Wilson again. I was thinking, "but isn't he dead?"

mentalist (mentalist), Monday, 19 April 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Peter Paul Reubens and Paul Reubens. Pee Wee? Dutch painter??? I get it all mixed up.

Justin Farrar (Justin Farrar), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

A bit dated, but I still confuse John Hiatt and John Prine.

Joseph McCombs, Monday, 19 April 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The Stands and The Stills

it's the 'The St...s' thing I tell you. What's with all these bands with names that have similar shapes?

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to know the difference between the Vibrators and the Buzzcocks, but forgot, then learned it again, then forgot again.

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Squarepusher and Lifterpuller.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The Stands and The Stills are different bands? Shee-it. I don't just get them mixed up cause of their names, their posters are almost identical, too!

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to confuse Clan of Xymox and Xmal Deutschland....until I realized that I didn't really like either, so ultimately, it didn't matter.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Physicist Albert Einstein and musicologist Alfred Einstein...for a time I thought physicist Albert wrote essays about Mozart in his spare time, I think I saw a still of him holding a violin from Einstein on the Beach and that threw me.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Years ago, a friend of mine told me he found an album by "Marc" Almond
and said, "...it's really laid back, kinda fake jazz, nothing at all weird or perverse on it. Is it his early stuff?" He had an album by Mark Almond. We laughed.

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Monday, 19 April 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I get confused between BadBadNotGood and Good Sad Happy Bad

enochroot, Saturday, 28 March 2026 13:47 (two months ago)

one month passes...

Brian Blade
Brady Blade

It confounds me that these two men were both drummers for EmmyLou Harris. How did she not call one or both by the wrong name at any given time? So wild.

it was the worst feeling i’ve ever heard (flamboyant goon tie included), Thursday, 14 May 2026 16:55 (one month ago)

They're brothers.

The Quaker Gurvitz Army (President Keyes), Thursday, 14 May 2026 16:57 (one month ago)

ARE THEY. Of course they are, but neither of their wiki references the other one. Thank you!

Glenn Rhee (character portrayed by actor Steven Yeun on the Walking Dead - a show I haven't watched for over a decade)

peace, man, Monday, 15 June 2026 13:27 (yesterday)

For it’s Glen Powell and Lake Powell.

The Quaker Gurvitz Army (President Keyes), Monday, 15 June 2026 16:15 (yesterday)

for me it's Cozy Powell and Carl Palmer

henry s, Monday, 15 June 2026 17:50 (yesterday)

Well they were both in ELP

duffel coat music (Matt #2), Monday, 15 June 2026 17:50 (yesterday)

That's part of the confusion. In fact, that's all of the confusion.
