I legitimately don't understand the chewing postcard thing. Maybe she chews up a postcard and sticks the resultant paste between two other postcards?

aside from her racism, rape lols, and making fun of disabled people, i really hate her attitude about these fundraising schemes, acting as if she has stumbled on something brilliant that any "indie" artist could have come up with, as if she could have convinced thousands of people to give her $50 apiece or literally buy her trash for hundreds of dollars without prior support from a major label.
it is POSSIBLE that she could have done this, but she didn't. that she built her fanbase on the back of major label support never seems to be commented on by her, she seems to 100% actually believe that working musicians/artists who criticize her "crowdsourcing" are just jealous they didn't think of her brilliant self-sufficiency (via fans) scheme 1st

nazi joke tweets, kkk joke tweets.
the worst thing imo is when, in an interview, she started talking about how after "evelyn evelyn" she came under fire from "disabled feminists." after saying "disabled feminists" she smirks for a long time as if to invite lols and then bursts into laughter. cause thats hilarious

blog where she proclaims that "no one owns the holocaust." how brave
ok this is actually probably the most heinous thing ever said by anyone "we’ve read the diary of anne frank, we’ve listened to the music of neutral milk hotel, and we’ve wondered what we could put on stage that would move people, make them think, make them feel.

Anyone read David Byrne's book yet? I just got it in the mail and flipped through (literally) until I came across a chart illustrating the costs and profits of his last self-released album with Eno. Granted, we're talking a slightly different tier of artist, and a legacy act at that, but I can't imagine Byrne solo is too far off from the level of Palmer these days. Anyway, it was kind of cool to see the breakdown of a record that cost something like $315,000 to record and distribute and promote, all self, made around a million and netted Byrne (minus Eno's share) around $300,000, which Byrne points out is a lot more than he got for his last studio album, which he determined works out to around $160K a year in salary. He concedes that most indie acts can't afford the initial expenditure to allow such a nice take, but it was still interesting to see a minor major figure - or major minor figure? - break down his own version of a DIY scheme. Looking forward to reading the book, which seems like at its best may be a bit like Albini's famed essay but more levelheaded and specific.

That NYTimes David Byrne review is a mess. It reads like the dude came up with some zingers first ("His prose seems to have been translated from the Chinese.") then wrote the review around them. I mean, the Byrne book may be dull as dirt, but it's kind of a weak sauce criticism to suggest your money might be better spent on Talking Heads records. Well, yeah. Duh. Did the author expect the book to get up, grab a guitar and dance for him or something?

the byrne review reads like the editorials that my 70-year-old mentor used to write

it probably says something about me, and something BAD, that earlier today i was happy to listen aloud to linda sharrock basically orgasming over sonny's guitar freakouts, but while later reminding myself of what that one dresden dolls song sounded like i made sure to turn down the volume so as to not be overheard by my flatmates.
