also i think 'self-sufficiency' is a kind of gross phrase, sorry!

albini def has done more than his fair share of baiting, cutesy devil's advocate bullshit but i give him points for showing more soul and sympathy as he's aged, even if he still clearly pats himself on the back for not tolerating fools.

just saying you cited rapeman seperately and and things he's SAID seperately, so just seemed like the "done" part came off as a bit more serious accusation

only libertarians like noise music in which all instruments are self sufficient and independent from one another as well as statist concepts like tune, hook, melody, harmony, 'sounding good'

if auctioning off neil's daughter was for charity, then she didn't say anything about it. in fact at the end of the blog where she totals up the money she made on that auction she enthuses that she is finally "making a living".
also, re: upthread, im not dissing her for auctioning off tshirts she made (and trash/recyclables) for money per se, its just like...how many times has she done these online fundraiser types of things, its kind of mind-boggling in addition to touring and selling records

one of the complaints was that she was using a professional fundraising management service that was skimming a good percentage of the funds, at least for kickstarter, and it would make sense to have all kinds of middlemen handling similar things elsewhere.

i gave away about 200 tickets, totally for free, via twitter. there was no other way to obtain them.
we could have technically charged for the show, through paypal or something, but i wanted to do a little experiment and see what would happen if we just passed the hat.
people generally donated about $10, some gave more, some not at all.
i didn’t give my impassioned “this is your one and only chance this year to directly pay my rent” speech, which might have made a difference.
this stuff just fascinates me.
i truly believe that we’re heading into a musical economy that will rely on more of this kind of model: fans being directly called upon to support their artists.
fanagement.

aside from her racism, rape lols, and making fun of disabled people, i really hate her attitude about these fundraising schemes, acting as if she has stumbled on something brilliant that any "indie" artist could have come up with, as if she could have convinced thousands of people to give her $50 apiece or literally buy her trash for hundreds of dollars without prior support from a major label.
it is POSSIBLE that she could have done this, but she didn't. that she built her fanbase on the back of major label support never seems to be commented on by her, she seems to 100% actually believe that working musicians/artists who criticize her "crowdsourcing" are just jealous they didn't think of her brilliant self-sufficiency (via fans) scheme 1st
