The soul-shouting is at least 45% of what is awesome about "Get Me Bodied"
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:27 (seventeen years ago)
also, god, speaking of the videos Beyonce's hair in Get Me Bodied just looks atrocious. wtf was she thinking?? this is important
― Vichitravirya_XI, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:28 (seventeen years ago)
The rest breaks down something like 45% double-dutch beats and 10% Swizz Beats adlibs
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:29 (seventeen years ago)
i dunno how to describe this but the part near the end when she sings "get me bodiiiiieeeedd" all high is so awesome
― BIGrack HOOSein Obama (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:31 (seventeen years ago)
all of it is so awesome
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:33 (seventeen years ago)
yeah
― BIGrack HOOSein Obama (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 06:34 (seventeen years ago)
truth be told i like this - song & videowise - better than either
― Vichitravirya_XI, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 08:24 (seventeen years ago)
haha lex "shoot your shot" by divine is pretty regimented too!!
good call on lumidee
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 10:35 (seventeen years ago)
GBM sounds too cluttered, throwing everything to the wall, and totally loses momentum in the last half when she starts speak-singing. It starts reminding me of a louder version of that Lumidee song by that point, all that throw-away clapping. The wailing/shouting/lack of a chorus doesn't help either.
Single Ladies destroys it, no contest

like i said, if you like the extended version better, think of that, if you like the shorter edit without the speak-singing at the end, think of that.
― some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 14:02 (seventeen years ago)
^ I agree. GBM does have a pretty awesome money-shot, though, just before the extended part. "Baby all I want is to let it go..."
Either way, I don't lovelovelove either of these songs without the video. And "Single Ladies" is... perhaps my favourite video of all time.
― Owen Pallett, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 14:35 (seventeen years ago)
Why is Beyonce dancing like a gimpy oversexed preteen candidate for "favorite video of all time"? I think almost every other video she's done is better than this one, including the ones for the songs I hate.
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 14:37 (seventeen years ago)
'single ladies' isn't even the best video from the sasha fierce campaign
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 14:44 (seventeen years ago)
the whole monochrome theme is dull and pointless (obv black and white fits the split-personality concept of the album but it's a naff cliche)
― Bondzilla vs Mechaholmes (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:19 (seventeen years ago)
...really? I love that video so much I just assumed it was classic. It's pretty exhilarating, so well shot and choreographed. So often imitated!
Are you serious? That "Diva" video is shiiiii.
― Owen Pallett, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:31 (seventeen years ago)
When I said "imitated", I meant "on the Youtube".
Yeah, watching a whole bunch of amateur dancers imitating an amateurishly-choreographed video is not my cup of tea.
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:33 (seventeen years ago)
amateurishly-choreographed
ok what
― Bondzilla vs Mechaholmes (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

That's my cup of tea, for sure. Doesn't really apply to this video, tho.
Different opinions, cool, but what's your idea of pro dancers/pro choreography?
― Owen Pallett, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:44 (seventeen years ago)
I mean: amateur dancers + amateur choreographers = Peter Greenaway = best.
― Owen Pallett, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:45 (seventeen years ago)
Britney - pick any dance video pre: "Gimme More"'NSync - Bye Bye Bye, PopJanet Jackson - pick a video, any video (except "Love Will Never Do (Without You)")Usher - pick a video, any video (esp "My Way", "Caught Up", "U Don't Have To Call")Xtina - "Dirrty", "Candyman", "Come On Over"Madonna - pick a video, any videoMichael Jackson - pick a video, any videoMissy Elliott - "Work It", "Pass That Dutch", "Lose Control", "Ching Ching"
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:50 (seventeen years ago)
The basic problem here, really, is that Beyonce isn't a good dancer.
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:51 (seventeen years ago)
(to be fair I'm not 100% convinced by "Come On Over")
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:53 (seventeen years ago)
HELLO PAULA ABDUL
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:55 (seventeen years ago)
ha yes, good call (not "Opposites Attract", tho)J.Lo as well
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:56 (seventeen years ago)
I'm also trying to think of an Aaliyah video that I love because of the dancing and not because she is v.v. pretty.
Also, even though I hate him for the most part, Chris Brown.
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:57 (seventeen years ago)
Beyonce's dancing = Usher's singingBeyonce's singing = Jacko's dancing
― Bondzilla vs Mechaholmes (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:57 (seventeen years ago)
Her dancing isn't as good as Usher's singing! Come on now.
Her dancing is as good as Taylor Swift's singing; it's perfectly serviceable and enjoayble but no one other than a hyperfan is going to claim it ranks among the best and there are blatant moments where it's off.
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 15:59 (seventeen years ago)
you had me until Chris Brown. kid looks like he's having a seizure and really really enjoying it.
― some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:00 (seventeen years ago)
her singing isn't as good as michael's dancing!
― Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:01 (seventeen years ago)
yeah no way
― some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:03 (seventeen years ago)
Beyonce's dancing is fairly crap in parts and she kinda only gets away with it because she's so hot.
― Bone Thugs-N-Harmony ft Phil Collins (jim), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:04 (seventeen years ago)
waht
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:06 (seventeen years ago)
yeah i mean what is her vocal equivalent of the Moonwalk? and don't say one of those showboating runs in a ballad.
― some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:08 (seventeen years ago)
a lot of beyoncé's routines are fairly simple, which is why both she and the legion of youtube amateurs get away with them
best 2 dancers in pop right now = ciara and justin timberlake
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:08 (seventeen years ago)
and yeah xtina's 'dirrty' and missy/ciara's 'lose control' seconded. there's a reason no one tries to imitate those on youtube - because they can't
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:09 (seventeen years ago)
yeah stupid kids don't know how to levitate like in the "lose control" video
― some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:11 (seventeen years ago)
With, Chris Brown, I was primarily thinking of the "Run It" video, which apparently I completely misremembered/confused with a "You Got Served" promo:
I also forgot to mention Sean Paul's "Get Busy" video:
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:31 (seventeen years ago)
btw lex what would be the best video from "i am..."? no way it's IIWAB
― BIGrack HOOSein Obama (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:54 (seventeen years ago)
wouldn't it have to be "Promise"?
― some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:58 (seventeen years ago)
oh wait i was confusing Beyonce's IIWAB with Ciara's IIWAB
― some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:59 (seventeen years ago)
lolol supporting evidence for "Beyonce's dancing = Taylor Swift's singing"
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
i think that's a bit of stretch yeah
― BIGrack HOOSein Obama (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:05 (seventeen years ago)
i'm not gonna debate how good a dancer beyonce is, but to call Single Ladies "amateurishly choreographed" and then compare it negatively to hyper-edited clips and wade robson aerobics is pretty wtf. People imitate the dancing in "Singles Ladies" because its shown without jump cuts away from the action every 3 seconds, not because even a 7 year old could do it.
― da croupier, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)
"wade robson aerobics" basically blows your argument out of the water
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:12 (seventeen years ago)
maybe you should watch the video for <a href=";>"bye bye bye"</a> again
― da croupier, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:14 (seventeen years ago)
d'oh
'diva' > 'if i were a boy' > 'single ladies' >>>>>>>>>>>>> 'halo'
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:15 (seventeen years ago)
Thank you, croup. Sorry for the blatant pulling of rank, but as likely the only paid choreographer on ILM, DP is mad incorrect about that (although I agree about Bey getting away with not being a tremendously great dancer on the basis of hot). I'll go into more detail when I can watch youtube.
― The Reverend (rev), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:16 (seventeen years ago)
hahahaha yes okay I think I completely conflated the "Making The Video" episode with the actual video, plus I conflated the dancing in "Bye Bye Bye" with the dancing in "Pop" and the dancing on "So You Think You Can Dance"
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:24 (seventeen years ago)
so basically there's one move they do in the cube that I thought was cool and the rest of it makes "Single Ladies" look like "Swan Lake"
― Barack You Like A Husseincane (HI DERE), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 18:28 (seventeen years ago)
