so far my only direct experience with this song is a morning show playing a 2 second clip and talking about how it sounds like they're saying "open condom style." i kinda wanna see how long i can keep that as my only contact with it.

the only two things i really thought when i finally watched this were a) at least the new "Macarena" is better than the old one, and b) this is totally the first time in 3 years that a video has upped the ante visually from "Bad Romance"

Those synth stabs that punctuate every so often are totally "Pump Up The Jam", without directly ripping them off like "I'm A Slave 4 U".

I feel like there's a real underdog dynamic at work. It's like... there's this chubby 30-something Korean dude (not by any means your typical pop star) taking the world by storm with a song that everybody loves, you can't help but root for him.

Oh yeah, and I had made the mental connection with the Macarena, but yeah, "Gangnam Style" is way better. The dance is better too.

yeah i sorta had a slight sickening feeling in my stomach when i imagined this getting played at some wedding i'm at in three years but fuck it

I did a wedding a couple weekends ago and thought about playing it but decided not enough people would know it yet.

it's absolutely amazing, he utterly owned that crowd. and they were primed for it because of... a satirical foreign-language rap for a dance-pop number with a video where everyone dances a horsey dance

Well when the line is "SA DA HEY" every single time it's pretty easy to remember. I've had that stuck in my head for like weeks now.

the whole thing is giving me sort of a Linsanity vibe - I can't imagine how surreal it is for Koreans over here to see one of their own basically become a star overnight

maybe a lot of the audience did know the words to begin with but c'mon they definitely rehearsed for it to be that on point

I don't know what they've done to the colours in the video but it's so bright and crisp and clean. It's like the anti teal & orange.

if you pronounce "gangam" as Psy does in the song & "condom" as you would in daily conversation they do not sound at all alike any further than they both scan trochaic & end with the letter m.
