I remember liking it but it was years ago.
On the more disco side, Turn The Beat Around is good, also Love Saves The Day...I don't really remember either as it's been years, but I don't remember hating either! And Mel Cheren's autobiography "My Life and the Paradise Garage" is a pretty essential disco story.

i don't think anybody's ever written a book on techno i've really enjoyed but i've only read techno rebels, altered states, energy flash and dj-culture
possibly i should just write my own at some point
wanted to find the superior "zagzig jazz" mix of this but this is the best i could do. still, awesome tune

I tried asking on the 90s poll noms thread, and now it's too late for that, but can anyone i.d. the first few tracks on this mix for me?
http://www.modernmusicsf.com/audio/mixes/ScottHenry_FeverVol6_SideB.mp3
I found this incomplete tracklisting using the archive.org's wayback machine, but there really aren't many people talking about scott henry tapes on the internet these days.

That Vandal 'Unraveled' track is incredible.
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 16 September 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)
Loving the deep trancey vibes of the Tata Box Inhibitors record posted a couple of months back.
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)
this is familiar to all but i'm blasting it right now and damn if it doesn't sound better than any "berghain techno" of the last 10 years
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUF5wECcdbg
― the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:43 (thirteen years ago)
i wouldn't compare the two really, don't see a major connection.
i love that dreamer g record, chewshabadoo, meant to post it here last week actually, heard jus ed play it a few years back. it is hilarious and great.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
I've never managed to get into Berghain techno, but can you really compare the Craig with that sound?(x-post)
On a different tangent, I was very happy to find out someone had edited the AVH mix of Kim English 'Nite Life' and removed the ravey stabs which always seemed to detract from the sensual, rolling nature of the rest of the track:

― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)
xp i didn't really mean to compare the two except to say that carl craig sounds as good now as he did back then
― the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
"berghain techno" being shorthand for the kind of techno i really, really like right now
that said, if you take the melodic synths out and just leave drums and bass you could have a norman nodge track
― the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)
its not so different in construction from what is probably my favorite techno track of the last five years, "native rhythm electric"
― the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
Cheers Ronan! My housemate DJ'd it out at a party the other week and it blew my mind. The vocal and those off-beat kicks bring a huge grin to my face.
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)
If that Nodge track reminds me of anything, it's like an austere version of Crispy Bacon.
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 16 September 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)
that too!
― the late great, Sunday, 16 September 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

<3 <3 <3 the artwork too
It's been ages since I listened to the 4 My Peepz EP, but isn't there another track on it that does exactly this? (I.e. takes away the synths and leaves just the drums and bass?) Though IIRC it wasn't particularly memorable.
By biggest problem with Paperclip People isn't the use of high-pitched synth sounds per se, but that they sometimes sound oddly weak. Like the synth riff that begins "The Climax"... How could CC come up with something so feeble, when the drums and bass on that material is so kicking?
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 08:33 (thirteen years ago)
you bring feeble all the time
― the late great, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 08:44 (thirteen years ago)
I guess there's this thing called dynamics. Also, those types of synth strings are very classic techno.

― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 10:48 (thirteen years ago)
Sure, but there are many classic techno tracks where they pack much more punch than in "The Climax"... And there's a difference between dynamics and just sounding weak, in my opinion. The second synth in "The Climax", the higher-pitched one that plays the main melody, has a nice dynamic with bass and drums, but the opening riff just sounds lame. Especially since the track starts with it playing a cappella, so you're attention is drawn to its lameness.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 10:48 (thirteen years ago)
(x-post)
It's usually preferable for a dance track to build up in my opinion, as it then works with the previous track as an evolving blend. I wouldn't say it sounds 'weak' though: muffled and murky perhaps - but I like sounds like that; The glossiness of Carl Craig's "Sunglasses Techno" of the last 10 years is a big turn off for my ears.
― Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 11:01 (thirteen years ago)
ahh that dreamer g is SO GOOD

Re the Grampa track above. Someone should put together a mix of the best 'Lately Bass' preset tracks.
Some of my favourite KCs are his collaborations with YC, such as:

Choice track choice.
That's the one, the prest was based on the bass sound in Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately", and found on the great second-hand value Yamaha TX81Z.
