Hm, in that case sorry.

Would anyone be up for a Talking Heads + associated acts poll?

i was going to do Talking Heads but decided to do The Boo Radleys instead. i know less people will vote for in it but should be a blast to do...

Bee OK, Thursday, 13 September 2012 02:20 (thirteen years ago)

I would vote in Talking Heads if anyone ran it. IMO it would be more interesting if it included solo albums, Tom Tom Club, etc.

On another matter at hand, Mordy's inclination (as best I can divine it) in the Joni Mitchell poll was for results not to roll out until approximately Oct. 10th. Any objection to getting the Neptunes poll rolling to run concurrently, if V79's schedule permits?

Irwin Dante's Towering Inferno (WmC), Sunday, 16 September 2012 21:04 (thirteen years ago)

yeah if Talking Heads can play "Genius Of Love" and The Catherine Wheel songs in their concerts then that stuff might as well be eligible in a TH poll. we could even ::stifles smile:: make room for No Talking, Just Head ::loses composure, bursts into laughter::

nutrition aziz (some dude), Sunday, 16 September 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

I've been on a mini-PJH kick lately, very advanced prep-work for the poll, it seems!

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Sunday, 16 September 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)

Talking Heads has to happen sooner or later. I kind of assume it'll run itself somehow even if nobody volunteers.

There can't be too much overlap between Joni and The Neptunes, I'd guess they'd be fine to run concurrently.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 16 September 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

Just to remind anyone who may be interested that voting closes for 1980'S ROCK POLL ALBUMS/TRACKS VOTING THREAD. (Voting closes September 20) (all welcome to vote inc Lurkers) on THURSDAY.

Thanks.

last few days to vote in the 80s rock poll by.. (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 12:05 (thirteen years ago)

I've emailed V79 about the Neptunes poll, but his last ILX post was the one upthread a month ago, so I dunno.

The Jesus and Mary Lizard (WmC), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 13:52 (thirteen years ago)

does anyone want to do a YMO one??

frogbs, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 13:54 (thirteen years ago)

I'm struggling a little bit to get the spreadsheet working. I'm able to input all the titles and everything, but I'm using Numbers (not Office) and can't figure out how to sort the columns alphabetically. Does anyone know how to do that in Numbers?

Mordy, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

I've never used Numbers -- I was using OpenOffice until I discovered Google Docs was a million times easier. Are there contextual menus? Right-click on the column header bringing up Sort options?

The Jesus and Mary Lizard (WmC), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 23:51 (thirteen years ago)

No... I've hunted around and even googled for answers. Maybe I'll download OpenOffice this week and copy the ballots over.

Mordy, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 23:55 (thirteen years ago)

I recommend Googledocs! Here's a copy of the basic poll .xls, just Save a Copy and go to town on it.

(thx WmC for your email!)

been away from ILX again lately, but of course I'll gladly run the Neptunes poll for everyone's pleasure (there *are* people waiting for it, I guess?). If I could only ask for about 24 more hours for preparation? my poll knowledge needs a bit of dusting off, it's been a while for me (sadly)

V79, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 10:55 (thirteen years ago)

No problem! This was short notice.

The Jesus and Mary Lizard (WmC), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 13:32 (thirteen years ago)

Did rock n roll die?

Claudia Schiffer Kills Frog (Leee), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

Apparently so.

The Jesus and Mary Lizard (WmC), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

Can we just skip ahead to Wang Chung?

Counting down Joni Mitchell poll here:
Oh I Wish I Had a POLL, I Could Skate Away On: The Joni Mitchell Tracks/Albums Results Thread (ILM ARTIST POLL #26)

Albums today, tracks over the rest of the week.

Mordy, Monday, 1 October 2012 13:13 (thirteen years ago)

have been pretty excited about the Neptunes poll! V79 lemme know if you want any help or advice i can offer from my experience running the Timbaland poll. i was thinking i might start putting together a Neptunes discog playlist on Spotify. i'm really hoping you a) do a 'worst' sub-poll and b) include Pharrell and Chad solo productions.

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Monday, 1 October 2012 13:36 (thirteen years ago)

scott walker poll would be nice too, especially maybe a month after bish bosch comes out.

Got an email from V79 last night -- his internet access is spotty, but he's planning on getting the Neptunes poll started this afternoon/evening.

It'll be my 894th birthday by the time the Pink Floyd poll gets here *sigh*
But Bruce Springsteen on the horizon :D

I would vote for The Greatest American Hero theme song imo

well you still have the rest of the day to enjoy the 80s poll, vg

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)

There's an 80s poll?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)

AG you and I both know that I will be almost completely mystified by the top 10 lol :)

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:18 (thirteen years ago)

a hoy hoy, I think tv themes could go ahead anytime and coexist with Neptunes outside this thread's list without any conflict or ballot fatigue issues.

V79, thanks for getting the Neptunes rolling!

Would you go so far as to describe The Boss as a "distant ship's smoke" then?

yeah? i'll wait for the 80s poll to end - maybe a monday start?

wuld like to withdraw my vu solo career
too lazy/busy/think the numbers would end up funky anyway

iatee, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)

The Joni Mitchell poll has officially ended. Full results can be read here:
Oh I Wish I Had a POLL, I Could Skate Away On: The Joni Mitchell Tracks/Albums Results Thread (ILM ARTIST POLL #26)

I want to do another poll -- I'm thinking something like a Emo, Screamo, Mallcore + [post]-Hardcore poll. Not sure if that's the best way to describe it... Anyway, can I get added to the end of the list? (I'm sure it won't be up until 2014.)

Mordy, Friday, 5 October 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

Been thinking about doing a music books poll for a while. I think it'd probably run alongside these, rather than joining the list (might even do it on ILbooks). Throwing it out there, seeing if there's enthusiasm, big poll fatigue

woof, Friday, 5 October 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not fatigued of polls but I am pretty sick of the vague decade/genre polls, don't see the point.

a books one would be interesting. I know what my #1 would be.
