Just heard Adorn in a sports store while walking through the mall. Miguel has arrived!

this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Thursday, 6 September 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

Man is this release scheme convoluted. Like, I'm a pretty big fan of this guy, and I really can't keep track of which songs are out, which ones are coming soon, which ones are being bundled where, where to download them, when to download them, etc, etc. I am totally lost, and his site isn't really clarifying a lot of these questions.

The ADC EPs were clever, but he should stop fucking around and just put out an album already.

three more songs out 9/11, full thing out 10/2

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

i hope "do you..." is actually the next single. maybe the best thing he's ever done.

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:31 (thirteen years ago)

cool to see that Pop & Oak produced "Use Me," really starting to stan for them after the Elle Varner album. "Don't Look Back" is prob my least favorite song he's put out this year, though.

IN REAL LIFE (some dude), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

i've never heard so many radio DJs say things like "I love that song! don't you love that song?" before or after playing something as with "Adorn" -- was really awesome to change stations right after it and hear it starting on another station the other day.

IN REAL LIFE (some dude), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)

Is that EV album good front to back?

Nickelback of folk (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)

imo yeah

IN REAL LIFE (some dude), Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

Cool, was interested but hadn't heard much, will check it.

Nickelback of folk (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 6 September 2012 22:00 (thirteen years ago)

heard "Adorn" on Tuesday! It helped that the R&B station played Maze's "Back in Stride" right after.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 6 September 2012 22:03 (thirteen years ago)

i think he's gonna hit no. 1 next week. up to no. 2 this week.

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 September 2012 22:04 (thirteen years ago)

gonna start using "the third minute of 'Adorn'" as a euphemism for keys that unlock wonderful hidden treasures

IN REAL LIFE (some dude), Thursday, 6 September 2012 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

:D

The Reverend, Thursday, 6 September 2012 22:31 (thirteen years ago)

i've just been going around for the last few days softly singing "i wanna do you like drugs toniiiiiiiiiiight"

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 8 September 2012 01:50 (thirteen years ago)

in the past 9 months where i've grown to view miguel as a singular genius i have to sometimes constantly remind myself that he can write some really hilariously corny lyrics

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 8 September 2012 01:55 (thirteen years ago)

but then he can also write something as dope as "we can be the riot in the air tonight"

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 8 September 2012 01:56 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like i've been able to reconcile his good ideas and bad ideas as part of an overall appealing package ever since he looked as goofy as he did in the video for a song as good as "Sure Thing"

wow @ "Do You..."

i feel like we've got so much in common now, right about now baby

Tim F, Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

I think his lacking a "star" profile (yet) makes the occasional poor articulation of musical ideas more interesting.

i've been going back and forth about whether or not he says "do you like hugs?" right before this

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:09 (thirteen years ago)

wonder if that's him on gee-tar on "Do You"

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:10 (thirteen years ago)

he does say "do you like hugs?"

other talents aside, he's a singer I love listening to

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:13 (thirteen years ago)

haha and what sounds like "do you like drugs" in the outro

maybe. production is credited to jerry wonda but miguel definitely played something on it.

"the thrill" is a solo production. title track is remi.

oh this is definitely what he says. it's a play on words at the beginning of the song ("do you like drugs?") and the end ("i'ma do you like drugs")

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:15 (thirteen years ago)

yeah he says "do you like hugs" a few times.

I'm liking how, the more of the album I hear, the more distinctly an overall sonic aesthetic is emerging, and yet each instance of it sounds so singular and distinct.

Tim F, Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:20 (thirteen years ago)

ugh two uses of "distinct", but you get me.

Tim F, Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that's definitely the main thing about this. i've heard the entire thing now, it sounds really good as a whole. dude just has a very strong idea of what he wants to sound like, just very singular and his singing is of course impeccable across the whole thing. the parts of the album that aren't out yet are still different but you can definitely feel his vision tracing thru the whole thing.

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

jesus christ the restless bass on "do you"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Saturday, 8 September 2012 03:28 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that kind of sub-bass is basically my favorite thing in music. His vocals on the last half are badass too. Great track.

Its just as good (if not better) on The Thrill. just rumbles along down there.

Nickelback of folk (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Saturday, 8 September 2012 04:04 (thirteen years ago)

still think rtc's offhand springsteen comparison is the most on-base one i've seen so far - it's kind of where it clicked into place for me (which is weird b/c i don't even care about springsteen)

lex pretend, Saturday, 8 September 2012 09:06 (thirteen years ago)

until Salaam Remi and Jerry Wonda had tracks side by side on this it never occurred to me that 2 different Fugees producers from back in the day have had pretty good careers the last few years

manic pixie, mercy, yo chick she's so quirky (some dude), Saturday, 8 September 2012 11:02 (thirteen years ago)

jordan what did he do with "pussy is mine"?

k3vin k., Saturday, 8 September 2012 11:37 (thirteen years ago)

that seems like a personal question

"pussy is mine" is on the album, it's pretty close to iirc what he was doing live. just him & the guitar and then it leads into the stripped down version of "candles in the sun"

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 8 September 2012 15:52 (thirteen years ago)

with samples of John Lennon saying "I have found out personally, not for the whole world, that the pussy is mine"

not really feeling the Labi Siffre appropriation on the title track. Do You is tremendous though
