My girlfriend's a big fan and played me some of the Fantasea mixtape yesterday...woahhhh, one of the tracks samples Claudja Barry's 'Love for the Sake of Love'. Which was rad as it meant I got to play her DJ Harvey's Sarcastic Disco mix in return.

Is Fantasea worth listening to? I haven't got much further than putting it on, hearing the Prodigy and thinking "nah, can't be arsed right now".

not especially imo

fantasea is a mixed bag. there's nothing particularly exciting on there that you haven't heard from banks before and there's nothing as polished as the 1991 EP.

i was initially under the impression it was anything but this... like every almost (every?) track was appropriated from within the fairly close rbma + nyc bass scenes - like nick hook / lunice / machine drum / munchi have all hung out with each other - i'd assumed one of them was doing most of the arranging on the album and had requested use of the tracks from the others, i guess not?

the main beef is that they announced it as real single before asking him or offering him money

but fuxache it's an edit, if her ppl have cleared the sample (!) then 25k and an artist credit is probably more than he'd get on a producer royalty after paying Jordan
