On that note, can we talk about the total ace-ness that is Howling (+ Ame Remix).

The subtle bowl-you-over effect of Ame in their usual excellence. I remember being pretty indifferent to it when I first heard it, but hearing dixon play it a few nights later I (not recognizing it) Shazamed it four times just to find out what it was (rarely will I try more than twice).

Anyways, it's grown on me even more since, and yeah, it's gorgeous.

Has this been mentioned up in here? Just saw it on Ada's RA chart...reaaaaly nice stuff:

That Tom Middleton above. I've been meaning to make a track with a "barber-pole" effect for about 15 years but never got around to it.

That Middleton track, is there a minimal revival happening already, or did Ovum never leave?

is that really minimal? sounds like house to me

plus ovum was always kinda housier, rather than minimal.

i got a lot of my old vinyl from my parent's house recently, this one, on ovum, still sounds really good to me.

It's a beefier Middleton'd take, but the use of a gimmicky non-melodic hook and looping quasi-techno backing is exactly the kind of minimal tech-house crossover I got so bored of, just before the more deeper sounds in house started to gain traction again a few years back.

i think you're totally wrong on this, it's nothing like that sound at all to me.

Just listened to the Penrose Steps sample and... you might have heard those plock-plock noises in a minimal set but not any other element of the track. I think of Middleton as a straight-up maximalist really.

"Penrose Steps" reminds me of Claude Von Stroke more than archetypal minimal.

Skimming through there is some great stuff in that Gerd mix, but someone needs to tell him that keeping the mixer in the red the whole time isn't ideal, where is Penrose Steps in it though, I couldn't find it.

To me the track above is somewhere half-way between the Vakula remix of Reich from last year, and and the Portico Quartet album from this year. I can't imagine it working for me on the dancefloor, but maybe I'd need to hear it in the right context.
