I always got the impression motorhead/acdc were the exception.

i would imagine it was much later on in the 80s, ie post thrash, when punk n metal fans lines blurred

Some would like tokeep it that way now. For all the experimentalism in ,say metal, in the last decade, a helluva lot would rather keep it pure or take it back to the70s/early 80s. Modern popular 'Indie' seems to have gone the other way and doesn't have any sense of experimenting unless its with 80s synth stuff.

I guess I'm thinking of the late 80s.

That's the kind of myopic pedantry that bugs me about genre polls and why I shall henceforth avoid them (except disco—I'll vote and participate in the disco poll). I haven't even looked in the 90s electronic thread because pfft I don't care, but it doesn't surprise me that the same kind of exclusion is going on there as has taken place here and in other genre polls.

that's just a dick move, imo. the pretenders debut ought to be in the nominations list, you agreed w/ this the other day, and if it ain't, you should e-mail seandalai and ask him to add it.

no, they want the exclusion but didn't get it! So they're still complaining about it after nominations/vote threads and the new nominations thread for another poll. A lot more want it exclusive than there was (well you and maybe 1 or 2 others) who wanted the rock poll to be more inclusive and mainstream.

I think you're reading things the way you want to. A few people wanted it more inclusive and everybody else was all "this is AG's poll, so whatever".

ANYWAY, since the Pretenders exclusion was YOUR MISTAKE, it's your burden to fix the issue.

please remember seandalai cant usually do anything til like 2am. He cant just change things instantly. It's very kind of him to help out despite being a busy man.

but the best part of these polls is introducing good albums or hearing good albums for the first time.

i only know about 100 albums total from the '80s, 30 of which are nommed in the poll. have been working my way back through time to hear more from before i started buying records in the early '90s, though.

man if i knew the tracks selections were gonna be this paltry i would've tried to make the time to nominate some, sorry that i didn't. i dunno if it would be feasible w/ the way votes are being tabulated but imo it might've been better to just decide which bands are eligible for the poll and which aren't, and let people vote for any song by the eligible bands. because man, people really nominated the wrong songs by a lot of those bands, or just too few of them.

i mean it's still an embarrassment of riches and i easily found 50 awesome songs for my ballot, don't get me wrong

i did urge people to nominate and it was open for nominations for ages. We need nominations for the voting forms otherwise its chaos.

oh yeah, you gave ample time for noms. it's just much easier to go through the albums you have and nominate them than rack your brain for which songs from them (or singles from other albums) to nominate, and i never found the time to do the latter.

I had to add banned in dc by bad brains because noone had nominated it but luckily that was before I started the thread so its up there in the post. If I add anything to the spreadsheet , it might not be noticed if people are working off the nominations listed upthread. And no way am I hassling a mod to add anything there!
