That Partial Arts tune is of an era of Kompakt tunes where I listened to them a fair bit at the time and then never again. This covers basically everything the label did from 2006 onwards mind.

Yep.

Wish I had found the time to vote.

What no "I Remember House"?!?

Andy K, Thursday, 30 August 2012 02:25 (thirteen years ago)

Kinda weird and discouraging seeing how little overlap my ballot has with most of those here even though a bunch of my votes managed to place. :/

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 August 2012 03:18 (thirteen years ago)

Rev if it makes you feel better i adore every single one of the tunes in your list except for a handful of post-dubstep ("Wut", "Hyph Mngo", "Getting Me Down") which are only in the "good" category for me.

I think a key reason your ballot is quite different is you seem to have less than ten tunes from the first half of the decade.

(my own ballot seems about evenly split between first half and second half)

Tim F, Thursday, 30 August 2012 03:27 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, like I said earlier, I wasn't listening to dance music at all until around 2005 or so.

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 August 2012 03:41 (thirteen years ago)

that jacques lu cont remix of "talk" is an amazing tune

they played it two weeks ago and at "last-party-ever" thing for a bar that got shut down (with a weekly electrohouse schedule) and it turned the floor into a sweatbox!

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 03:45 (thirteen years ago)

Now that this poll is over, you can nominate stuff for the upcoming 1990s electronic music poll. The deadline for nominations is September 15th:

Disappointed that nobody else voted for the DJ Harvey remix I had at number 5 (apart from the person who told me about the track in the first place):

Here are two (very different tracks) I'd have placed very highly on my ballot if I'd remembered to nominate

Matt DC, Thursday, 30 August 2012 09:02 (thirteen years ago)

In retrospect I madly underrated Inflation and overrated that Killers remix.

Matt DC, Thursday, 30 August 2012 09:04 (thirteen years ago)

i wouldn't be surprised if you have the closest ballot to the actual results

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 09:05 (thirteen years ago)

I am simultaneously annoyed about that and annoyed about 'Gazebo' not placing.

Matt DC, Thursday, 30 August 2012 09:10 (thirteen years ago)

pedestrian ;-)

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 09:11 (thirteen years ago)

Read through my ballot and I'm shocked "watching you" didn't place. That track is sex for the ears. (forgive the cliche)

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 30 August 2012 09:26 (thirteen years ago)

So anyway folks:

Hey we're on Fact! Glad you guys liked the images enough to make a tumblr of it :) They look great all organized like that. Thanks Gukbe!

Here's

Moka, Thursday, 30 August 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know what that 'here's' is doing in there.

Moka, Thursday, 30 August 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)

Very cool, props to Moka and the late great for the getting this thing all the way through to completion.

And whoever did the tumblr too.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:04 (thirteen years ago)

Oh hey, Gukbe. Thanks, guess I needed to read more of the thread.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:08 (thirteen years ago)

And me for the initiative? Just kidding.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not going to bother reposting my ballot, since it's already up on the other thread and was perhaps slightly too whimsical/spur of the moment.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)

Listening to this list on Spotify has lead to me to believe that ILX really loves arpeggios. A lot. And pop vocals.

And 80s references. Sounds about right.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:17 (thirteen years ago)

who doesn't love arpeggios?

second only to popcorn (or something), Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:20 (thirteen years ago)

Drummers?

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:20 (thirteen years ago)

True kvlt deep house heads? Those who pray at the church of JACK?

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:21 (thirteen years ago)

i pray at the church of jack and while i'm down there i'm all over the arpeggios.

second only to popcorn (or something), Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm trying to think of what the exact opposite of Geir would be. Somebody who likes completely rhythm based dance music?

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:26 (thirteen years ago)

Anyway I'm picking up on a bunch of Kompakt stuff that I missed the first time round, and its all good by me.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)

i think, god willing, we're all the opposite of geir.

second only to popcorn (or something), Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)

I just thought it was interesting how of a piece everything sounds.

The things that really stick out sideways are like Basement Jaxx and Zed Bias.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:38 (thirteen years ago)

Somebody who likes completely rhythm based dance music?

Sup.

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:49 (thirteen years ago)

Congratulations Rev, you are the Anti-Geir.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:50 (thirteen years ago)

I did get that unfailingly polite man to tell me to fuck off once.

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

I was going to say Osunlade or something but I think even he likes arpeggios.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

;_;

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:54 (thirteen years ago)

Or perhaps he cynically deploys them for use in the lucrative Euro-man market.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:54 (thirteen years ago)

u know kraftwerk liked some arpeggios

ayonanas (Matt P), Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:55 (thirteen years ago)

fuck those guys they suck

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:56 (thirteen years ago)

would you rather listen to neon lights or acid tracks i thought so

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:56 (thirteen years ago)

Uh, tough question. I think I've listened to Neon Lights about 3 or 4 times a week for the last 6 months.

Josiah Alan, Thursday, 30 August 2012 23:58 (thirteen years ago)

Although recently I've been leaning on Tour De France a little more.

Josiah Alan, Friday, 31 August 2012 00:00 (thirteen years ago)

ok now imagine doing that with acid tracks and how much more awesome that would be

actually imagine a lamonte young style installation where acid tracks plays over and over and over again

the late great, Friday, 31 August 2012 00:01 (thirteen years ago)

(as if that's not an arpeggio either)

the late great, Friday, 31 August 2012 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe this impression of the list is reinforced by Spotify not having most of the Detroit tracks.

It seems like the list gravitates towards a maybe a more trance friendly sound?

Like the disco stuff is sort of trancy, the Kompakt stuff is trancy, etc.

Josiah Alan, Friday, 31 August 2012 00:04 (thirteen years ago)

acid trax humms along in the back of me somewhere constantly but then so do a lot of things.

xp. this concept of trancy makes no sense of me whatsoever, do you mean euphoric?

second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 31 August 2012 00:05 (thirteen years ago)

no sense 'TO' me.

second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 31 August 2012 00:07 (thirteen years ago)

he means "euro"

the late great, Friday, 31 August 2012 00:08 (thirteen years ago)

OK if you use Kraftwerk as a sort of quintessentially European form of dance music, heavily informed by the classical tradition.

Its where a lot of Italo comes from, EBM, Trance Europe Express.

Trancy meaning music that isn't explicitly Detroit or Chicago influenced and more in line with Moroder or Kraftwerk.
