up there with the best debut singles of all time. thought it would place one or two higher though, but i can guess what beat it.

i'm getting a bit giddy that my number 1 might be the overall number 1 now, don't think it's ever happened on an ilm poll before.

came low in my poll and maybe shdn't've been there at all, or shd've been much higher, i dunno, i think i voted from "importance" slightly which is totally against my usual method. but it's unquestionably spectacular no matter what my relationship is to it on any one day

I was one of the #1 votes for "Nocturn" - everything I'd loved about Kate Bush ~The Ninth Wave with added balearic majesty; I think it was Tim in the OG Aerial thread that mentioned Talk Talk/Bark Psychosis/"Halcyon+On+On"/"Under The Sun" as reference points. I wish I'd had the chance to hear it at the end of some kind of Studio DJ set as the sun was rising.

I once saw Balearic Mike start off a boat party set with 'Nocturne', just as we started moving along the coast. It was a glorious moment.

the last time I listened to this song I was rushing to pick up my kid from preschool while my wife was having a miscarriage in the hospital and I cried like a fucking little girl. and now I will always associate this song with that moment.

Tremendously moving. She really tapped into something when she created this song. Love the Director's Cut version of this as well. Voted for that one.

Add me to the wellers-uppers. TSW gets knocked a lot for its sound, but this track is one hell of a production job - that's how to build a climax imo.

One of the reasons I suspect I didn't vote is that 'Ken' (a song written specifically for The Comic Strip) Is maybe my favourite and I would be crushed now it's not placing.

This one was beloved of late voters. It had a terrible first third of the poll - joint ninth after twelve ballots - and thereafter went on a tear. When I went to bed on the brink of closing the voting it had climbed to fifth; the last three ballots lifted it into the top three.
