hey what's the WORST spinback EDB? i'm curious what i should avoid doing ...

From memory and having just checked it, it's primarily the "R House" spinback, since it kind of comes out of nowhere and is a bit quick (it feels a bit incomplete compared to a more full, bar length spinback). It sounds like the track had a bit more groove left before being pulled out is all.

so ... i have to give a 30 minute demo to a dude who runs a night of dubstep, jungle and moombahton. i was like "well i do techno" and he was like "well we like techno too as long as its like CRAZY DUDE"

what do you use to do your mixes, dominique?

this one was done on my old laptop, which has a program called atomix. I believe this was the precursor to what is now virtual DJ. funny enough, atomix cost me $90 when I got it, but virtual dj (a program w/a lot more features, and similar to traktor) is free!

In the past few years, the DJing industry has seen computer DJing becomes the de-facto standard.
With Technics having closed its turntable division, and Pioneer trying to replace its CDJ players by USB controllers, long gone are the days where computer DJs were frown upon. Now it’s the DJs still using CD and vinyls who are laughed about.

I know this might not be the "right" thread but it certainly seems to be the most active one, so:

I'm about to rip several hundred of my own CDs for use w/ Traktor; what bitrate is ideal if I anticipate maybe someday playing them in a club? I'm torn btwn LAME V2 and V0 -- is anyone really going to notice the diff btwn the two?

And a follow-up: is EAC still the best ripper out there? I haven't done this in like 5 years.

just use itunes

if you're playing the *big room* at fabric you need wavs or flacs but otherwise ime doesn't matter

I've seen people use 224 vbr and even 192 in clubs for rips of scratchy-ass old detroit techno rarities

isn't 320 sorta overkill when v0 achieve essentially the same thing in a smaller filesize?

Also I've had bad experiences ripping w/ iTunes :-/

i don't know if 320 is overkill but it seems to be defacto standard

320 sounds *slightly* better to me than 256 and not any worse than 1411 wav so that's what i use

I don't really know the nerdy technical specifications and all that, but I prefer to have 320 if at all possible.

I was about to ask almost the same question as Stevie on another thread. For files I already have on my hard drive I'll play em in Traktor down to 192 but new stuff I'll always rip at 320. but I was curious whether most people use iTunes to encode or something different. I saw someone on a forum saying that using LAME to encode instead of iTunes made more of a quality difference than the bitrate but tbh I don't even know what LAME or EAC is, just a separate piece of software you get? anyone else think this makes a difference?

I used to mainly DJ vinyl but lately I've been doing a bar gig that goes about 6 hours, usually by myself ... so have been leaning on Traktor more and more ... usually play about half vinyl, half mp3s.
