Forgive me for asking probably easy-to-find info, but is there a release date yet?
― this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)
complex said that the song he wrote for alicia keys in jamaica (and that her backing vocals are on) is "candles in the sun" but i don't think that's right -- for one, when i talked to him he told me that it was "where's the fun in forever" & also having heard at least one version of "candles," i don't think her vocals are on that
― young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:43 (thirteen years ago)
jer: he's releasing a three-song preview on 9/11, full thing is out 10/2
― young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)
happy to find out miguel also has thunder thighs
― jack chick-fil-A (dayo), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:46 (thirteen years ago)
Excellent. I mean, these staggered EP releases have been nice, but a full album makes things a lot easier for year-end ranking purposes.
― this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)
IF the album is worth ranking above Art Dealer Chic. we'll see.
― some dude, Monday, 27 August 2012 16:52 (thirteen years ago)
Well, yeah. But isn't a good chunk of ADC gonna be on this?
― this is the dream of avril and chad (jer.fairall), Monday, 27 August 2012 16:58 (thirteen years ago)
three songs -- i think it's gonna be as good or better. ADC does have some throwaways.
― young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 August 2012 17:00 (thirteen years ago)
Fuckin broads.

seriously, if he keeps making album covers like this, i will have to keep making Avatar: The Last Airbender jokes.

yeah, I don't really know how Internet memes work, but I am picturing Flying Miguel photobombing all sorts of news and sports images, dunking on Kobe or Billy Corgan or whatever

“It’s definitely a progressive album,” the 25-year-old told Mina SayWhat. “I would describe it as being progressive in the sense that I’m taking a lot of my more alternative influences and incorporating them.”

"adorn" is looking like it has a chance to be his biggest hit
― young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 August 2012 18:23 (thirteen years ago)
heard it on the radio this morning, vibed out
― jack chick-fil-A (dayo), Monday, 27 August 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, Pussy is Mine is on this? Cool. He played that live at the Joe's Pub show and it felt like older material from somewhere but I didn't entirely recognize it.

Profiles weren't as high, but Love Me Back and Late Nights & Early Mornings come to mind.
― Andy K, Monday, 27 August 2012 19:43 (thirteen years ago)
which was late nights? marsha ambrosius?
― twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 27 August 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)
that didn't register for me at ALL. Love me back is still in constant rotation.
thanks for prompting me to play the Ambrosious album again, Andy!
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 27 August 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)
yeah good call with the Jazmine and Marsha albums, dug both. i'm just happy that this time Mig got to dodge the J. Cole bullet that Melanie and Elle caught this year.
― some dude, Monday, 27 August 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)
Alex, check out the Ambrosius again. Although it faffs around a bit in the middle section and is at times too masochistic for my taste, this is plush, sumptuous R&B of a high order -- probably my favorite one of last year
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 27 August 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)
"Adorn" is great, but I've always thought it needed a B.o.B. verse
― Evan R, Monday, 27 August 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)
and a Calvin Harris remix featuring Nicki Minaj.

― lex pretend, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 01:14 (thirteen years ago)
wait, ship: how are Kels' albums not contemporary R&B? Is it their retro stylings that inoculate them?

i was basically borrowing the parlance of the Grammys, who for most of the last decade had a 'contemporary R&B album' award to distinguish the overly modern hip hop-influenced stuff from the more traditional stuff that usually wins the best R&B album award (but the 2 categories were merged back into one this year). Chocolate Factory was nominated in the contemporary category; his last two would have been in the other category, if they were nominated.
― some dude, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 01:29 (thirteen years ago)
like you wouldn't listen to Write Me Back and expect to possibly hear a guest rapper on it (unlike Miguel's stuff), so it's not relevant to the point i was making.
― some dude, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 01:30 (thirteen years ago)
new trey songz album only has like 6 guest rappers
