got no time for 'frankendance' if by that you mean the type of thing annie mac might play. but 'la rock 01' was is and always will be an undeniable monster of a tune and nothing like that.

Yeah, I always saw Vitalic as the kind of supreme exception to the rule of 00s French electrohouse shittiness. That said, La Rock > Poney

Frankendance not a thing (if really a thing at all) til after Justice. Vitalic fitted well with Electroclash-tagged shit at the time at least the faster stuff like 'I Dance Alone' plus maybe other either side of the rushier techno stuff ('Diabla', Beyer mix of 'Ignition Key').

Uh... I didn't actually say Vitalic was frankendance (Poney wasn't, even later Vitalic isn't really). Poney is a signpost on the way there in the way that a lot of later noisy maximalist electrohouse is, and Justice probably had Vitalic in mind when they were making Waters of Nazareth but really when you look at Vitalic's understanding of dancefloor dynamics there's no comparison.

At this point I'll unapologetically lobby for some electrohouse and love that shit, but I also wish there was more Berghain-style, Downwards label-eqsue stuff that made it to the results.

If that makes me an outlier, so be it.

IMO that stuff will be in the 10s poll

Very true, I have to honestly say I've done most of my listening in the last couple years even if a lot of the material came out in the 00s it wasn't widely listened to.

i just ... i never "got" stuff like "coma cat" or "timecode" or pantha du prince or "trentemoller's polar express to tweeland". it just seems so middlebrow pretty.

I know this is a fairly selfish request but at some point once the countdown is finished I would love some kind of history lesson on 00s bobbins and how everything fits together. I've looked up a few of the old threads on here and they've given me some sense of how things developed but I still feel like I don't have the whole picture.

OK, I've listened to "Blind" 20 times today. It's the harmonies on that "I feel blind" that get me each time (something that gets lost in the Frankie Knuckles remix), and the beat right after that where the horns come in and I imagine all the dry ice around the dance floor going whoooosh and all the shirts coming off.

xpost Particularly interested in the German side of things (microhouse, minimal, Berghain techno, when and how the changes came in between them, what all the key tunes/people/places/events were) but also would like to know about the electroclash>electrohouse>franken/bloghouse narrative too. And any points where the two met, e.g. as I understand it around 04-05 minimal and electrohouse were played in sets together and had some overlapping stylistic elements, right?

Didn't like Mouth To Mouth when I first heard it but it's grown on me. Blind I'm not familiar with, will give it a listen.

The Isolee comment earlier about covering the song with a band reminded me of Dexter -- the Two Lone Swordsmen remix is them covering it.
