The Sky Was Pink remix is much better and more exciting than I remember it being.
― Invisible Bongo Band (Mr Andy M), Thursday, 23 August 2012 12:55 (thirteen years ago)
I hated the Knuckles remix of "Blind" at first but eventually came to love it. Don't remember which version I voted for, though.
― squicky chutzpah in the drug biz (jaymc), Thursday, 23 August 2012 12:58 (thirteen years ago)
I never get the appeal of the frankie knuckles remix, too. It's OK but could've been made by a random soundcloud guy.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:03 (thirteen years ago)
the original mix of 'blind' was my fave. had a certain swagger to it.
i always liked that 'icelandic version' of 'the sky was pink' the best - more of a swirly laptop shoegazer thing though really.

OG Blind > > Club mix > > > > > > > > Knuckles mix
Fairly substantial bias in favour of microhouse and post-microhouse
this bias came from who got involved in the noms thread, rather than reflecting sifted-down taste overall I think
― ʘ (sic), Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:30 (thirteen years ago)
Club Mix is the best b/c it's the one that sounds most like Adamski's "Killer".
― Tim F, Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:31 (thirteen years ago)
One of my favourite moments in self-googling was stumbling across a feminist blog takedown of a year-end write-up of "Blind" I'd done on the basis that I repressed its queer content.
― Tim F, Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:33 (thirteen years ago)
The club mix is the best version of Blind because it removes a lot of the superfluous ingredients - his voice, especially the "to see you now" bit, works so much more powerfully with more space around it. It's like he's singing to an empty club.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)
As far as I can remember there's not much going on in the club mix either than beats, bass and vocals whereas the original is kind of cluttered and messy.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)
YES to both the last two posts.
― Tim F, Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)
It's like he's singing to an empty club.
Easy to understand why, given the context.
― Eric H., Thursday, 23 August 2012 13:55 (thirteen years ago)
sounds like I'm late to this party but I don't buy that the Frankie Knuckles mix of Blind is any better. The interplay of all the different sounds on the original is amazing, especially the repeating sixteenth notes and the brass. Without those repeating notes the track takes on a totally different and more laid back character. Frankie Knuckles might play better in a club though.
― skip, Thursday, 23 August 2012 14:12 (thirteen years ago)
Club Mix >>> Original >>>> Frankie Knuckles mix.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 23 August 2012 14:18 (thirteen years ago)
The right one won.
― Eric H., Thursday, 23 August 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)
Presuming you can see into the future and mean that the Club mix will place in the future, then OTM.
The club mix still blows me away, the other mixes are ok, I guess.

this results thread and the related spotify playlist are one of the best things about my week, thank you so much, everyone
― your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 23 August 2012 15:10 (thirteen years ago)
I'll take either mix over the original, at any rate.
― Eric H., Thursday, 23 August 2012 15:10 (thirteen years ago)
I hear that!
― formerly EDB (ed.b), Thursday, 23 August 2012 15:11 (thirteen years ago)
always remembered the FK mix being best (and voted for it,) but i'll have to listen to the club mix again and compare, maybe i'm wrong
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 23 August 2012 15:23 (thirteen years ago)
i don't get "time code", sounds boring
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 23 August 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)
My new favorite discovery so far is the DJ Koze mix of "Minimal".
― skip, Thursday, 23 August 2012 15:37 (thirteen years ago)
xpost yeha they called that style micro house
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 17:03 (thirteen years ago)
I wonder how high 'Blind' would've placed if we'd only had one entry to vote for (voted for the original mix myself). Top 20, if not Top 10, I suspect. It seems a lot of us agree that it's crème de la crème.
― azaera, Thursday, 23 August 2012 17:22 (thirteen years ago)
much overrated track imo, i mean a good pop hook does not make a good house track
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 18:49 (thirteen years ago)
i should say decent pop hook + competent house production != god-like genius
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 18:50 (thirteen years ago)
it is a good track but the idea that it placed 50 places ahead of "live goes on" and "transition" is crazy to me!
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)
i don't like it at all, the frankie knuckles mix is v by the numbers. not to mention antony's voice.
― second only to popcorn (or something), Thursday, 23 August 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)
'transition' however slays everything. placed it low teens, with hindsight maybe should've gone higher.
― second only to popcorn (or something), Thursday, 23 August 2012 19:00 (thirteen years ago)
The problem with Transition for me is that it's just too big a statement for almost anyone to get away with playing. If I was picking a UR from this period I'd go for Timeline.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 23 August 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)
Y'all are mad, the Knuckles Mix is sooooo lush and gorgeous. It just glides on air. Never like the Club Mix myself.
― The Reverend, Thursday, 23 August 2012 19:12 (thirteen years ago)
xp i'm not sure i really get that. but, hey, if 'transition' feels a bit, um, intimidating for the moment then flip it over and there's 'inspiration'!
― second only to popcorn (or something), Thursday, 23 August 2012 19:19 (thirteen years ago)
transition is intimidating like the percolator
if the crowd is not ready to MAKE YOUR TRANSITION then yeah it can got south and seem pretentious
if the floor is ready ... KABOOOM
see also "black water"
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)
I understand what you're saying tho, like it has to be TIME for the percolator, and if it isn't.....
― The Reverend, Thursday, 23 August 2012 20:20 (thirteen years ago)
…It's time for the loose leaf ceylon.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 23 August 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)
that;s right rev
I get angry when people play Percolator and it's clearly not yet time for the Percolator. By people, I mean my often DJ partner Mike.
― Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 6 August 2004
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 20:35 (thirteen years ago)
similarly many people don't MAKE THE TRANSITION
if you're not MAKING YOUR TRANSITION when you play that song you're doing it wrong, it needs to be the EPIC OFFICIAL PEAK of your set no matter what
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 20:36 (thirteen years ago)
well, look at the relative DJ careers of Mike Simonetti and myself since 2004, then ask yourself how important it is to only play Percolater when it's actually time for the Percolator.
― dan selzer, Thursday, 23 August 2012 21:11 (thirteen years ago)
no matter how you spell it.
― dan selzer, Thursday, 23 August 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)
perc you later, losers!

― andrew m., Thursday, 23 August 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)
hmmm no berghain-ish techno so far...and probably there won't be one?
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 23 August 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)
Seems like the whole Berghain sound is kind of opposed to the sort of anthemic song of the season type tracks that make it in these lists. Excepting stuff like Yours by Steffi, how many Dettman tracks stand out as individual works of mastery?
― formerly EDB (ed.b), Thursday, 23 August 2012 22:34 (thirteen years ago)
dettmann-type tracks, that is.
yeah, I get what you mean. but I thought something like EQD would place.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 23 August 2012 22:40 (thirteen years ago)
all of them
and some of that EQD will place high i think
― the late great, Thursday, 23 August 2012 22:43 (thirteen years ago)
I think the only Shed I voted for, actually, was Well Done. That said, I would support seeing a handful of his stuff in the top 40.
― formerly EDB (ed.b), Thursday, 23 August 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)
I'm doing penance for never having heard "Transitions" before today by putting it on repeat.
― etc, Thursday, 23 August 2012 23:40 (thirteen years ago)
I wonder how much of "Once In a Lifetime" I can sing along to it.
