Love Fizheuer Zieheuer, love the way the drums drop in and out of time. Perfect for any occasion.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:47 (thirteen years ago)

by time I mean sync

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:47 (thirteen years ago)

Brutalga Square I could never get that into. Koze Comes Around got a lot of love but I wasn't able to warm up to it so much.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:49 (thirteen years ago)

Probably needs to be heard in the proper environment/context

52. Antena - Camino del Sol (Joakim remix) (217 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote)
Year: 2006
Youtube: http://youtu.be/GQLnq3PsFZ8

Antena's "Camina Del Sol (Joakim Mix)" is just too big for words - it's like, trance revivalism meets Ame meets Carl Craig meets, I dunno, just skyscraping largesse. It's almost too big: the whole thing feels incredibly deliberate. But it would be pretty astonishing on the dancefloor.

Was the #1 vote you Tim?

I went to Las Vegas once and I swear one of the best moments I had there was hearing 'camino del sol' on a club. I don't know if that makes my Vegas trip lame or awesome.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:55 (thirteen years ago)

That said I prefer the original one since I knew it first and I have more memories attached to it but the Joakim mix is huge.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:56 (thirteen years ago)

Damn I need to hear that. The original is one of my favorite songs ever.

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 04:57 (thirteen years ago)

joakim himself dropped 'camino del sol' remix when i saw him once. it was huuuuuuuge. as is he!

Shit, those handclaps on Life's a Beach. Best band since Junior Boys. Best band since the Shangri-Las for fucks sake.

Oops actual 51 Track is LCD Soundsystem's Losing my Edge and this is 50.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:08 (thirteen years ago)

Too many good quotes on that LCD song. Care to dig some for me while I arrange the image?

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:09 (thirteen years ago)

im fine w/skipping lcd soundsystem tbh

Lamp, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:10 (thirteen years ago)

Despite adoring both "Life's a Beach" and "Losing My Edge", I didn't vote for either for fear that people would get angry with some interloper indie-ing up the proceedings.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:11 (thirteen years ago)

Alright here we go again:

The lyrics are funny, the beat isn't as good as I was hoping, and it goes on a couple of minutes too long. But I like it.

I played this for some record collector pals once and one of the more rockisty said something along the lines of "yeah this is pretty funny but it's more of a techno hipster thing, he's not referencing like, the sonics" right before "THE SONICS....THE SONICS...THE SONICS." A+, James Murphy.

I fucked up the Studio thing twice. I think that's my alarm call telling me to sleep. Until tomorrow then! Hope you're enjoying the countdown.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:19 (thirteen years ago)

Thanks for all the effort you've put in Moka! This is great

du mein bestie (micarl), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:44 (thirteen years ago)

^^^agreed, though listening to so many jamz late at night is not conducive to me sleeping

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:46 (thirteen years ago)

these are gooxd picks but transition was a top 10 for me too, surprised it ended so low

the late great, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 05:54 (thirteen years ago)

thanks again, moka!

stuff i loved today:

69. Crazy Cousinz - Inflation [flute @ 1:19 hooked me]
61. Gui Boratto - Beautiful Life [suppose this seems corny to many? it is, but so am i]
60. Matias Aguayo - Minimal (Dj Koze remix)
59. Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle [not big on the vocals, but they're a blip, love everything else]
58. Aeroplane - Whispers [i guess i like everything at this point...]
53. Dj Koze - Brutalga Square
50. Studio - Life's a Beach

contenderizer, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:06 (thirteen years ago)

not that i dislike the knife, boards of canada, LCD soundsystem and fischerspooner. i enjoy them all, but they're more familiar to me, and maybe seem to belong to a different storyline? i suppose the same could be said of studio and "la ritournelle", but i don't know them as well, so they took me by surprise.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:08 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think I had ever heard that Antena remix before. It's pretty outstanding.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:09 (thirteen years ago)

'losing my edge' probably shoulda been 'beat connection' - although tom ewing (or ...someone) made the point back when it was new that the ignored b-side being better was true to classic single type so maybe it's appropriate.

your own personal cheeses (haitch), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:32 (thirteen years ago)

"Beat Connection" is better, though I prefer "Yeah". Even so, "Losing My Edge" is more defining so I get it.

I can really listen to "Minimal" over and over again.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:36 (thirteen years ago)

Coz that music got no ballz got no funk

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:40 (thirteen years ago)

I fucked that up but it's in the spirit

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:43 (thirteen years ago)

no man i dig

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:44 (thirteen years ago)

word

windjamm voyager (blank), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:48 (thirteen years ago)

I'm a weirdo who prefers the OG mix to Koze's.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 07:01 (thirteen years ago)

I like the Carnival vibez.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 07:02 (thirteen years ago)

No I prefer the original Minimal as well - swanee whistles!

A load more personal favourites in here, Whispers is still fantastic and its depressing that neither Aeroplane nor The Magician went further down that road. Inflation obviously amazing. So Much Love To Give is a pinnacle of a sound that's been done to death since but still, wow. I prefer the Terje version of Camino Del Sol but the Joakim one is huge on a dancefloor.

Genuinely surprised that Deck The House is rated so highly, especially on a par with Emerge.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 09:42 (thirteen years ago)

i love Deck the House. i've never really thought of it as being quirky/wacky, although i guess it is a bit! the lemon jelly dig hurts.

jabba hands, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 09:59 (thirteen years ago)

It's the diddly acoustic guitar sample that prompts the Lemon Jelly comparison.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 10:06 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it's a fair point! i think i've always found the track too infectious to be bothered by the wackiness. milton parker nails it in that great post up there.

jabba hands, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 10:43 (thirteen years ago)

i hope 'deck the house' showing up doesn't mean 'skidoos' won't place as it's different class. it probably does mean that tho :(

second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 10:49 (thirteen years ago)

Skidoos was my #2 I think

No, and i'm a bit surprised you're asking! Great tune though.

Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:22 (thirteen years ago)

I like basically everything so far. Even overrated stuff like Blawan.

Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:22 (thirteen years ago)

This last stretch was a bit barren for me in terms of stuff from my list making it - all I had was Brutalga Square at #21.
Still plenty of goodies though. Love Cry is easily one of my favourite Four Tet tunes, far and away better than most things I've heard from them. Aeroplane - Whispers and the Camino Del Soul remix are right up my street at the moment, Whispers especially. Life's A Beach I'm enjoying way more than West Side.

Invisible Bongo Band (Mr Andy M), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:48 (thirteen years ago)

Fizheuer Ziheuer I almost voted for but I dunno, something about the length of it made it fit awkwardly with most other things on my list. It's kind of a classic anyway, obvs.

Invisible Bongo Band (Mr Andy M), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:49 (thirteen years ago)

Even though I'm not like a raving Villalobos stan I'd be very curious as to how a poll of his tunes would pan out.

Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:51 (thirteen years ago)

lots of stuff i love but some v weird inclusions, that partial arts thing, i literally can't even remember what that sounds like. or "mushroom" for superpitcher seems an odd choice, though i don't know what one track of his i'd pick. the mfa remix i guess will probably feature.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:55 (thirteen years ago)

That Partial Arts tune is of an era of Kompakt tunes where I listened to them a fair bit at the time and then never again. This covers basically everything the label did from 2006 onwards mind.

Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 12:57 (thirteen years ago)

bit disappointed 'out there' wasn't on the noms list, that's my favourite of the studio tracks. might also have thrown a vote to either the kylie or shout out louds remixes. ailtough none of them really fit the brief to my mind.

xp. i voted for partial arts, kind of as a representitive of all those sparkly kompakt late 2000s tunes.
