What I love about them as original producers - the sense that on every single occasion they're consciously trying to make the most enjoyable record imaginable. And their ability to mix pop-disco and e-transcendence and that sense of wide-eyed wonder without ever really coming over as twee or cloying or annoying. Whispers is my favourite single of this year by several light years.

i had 'beautiful life' in my top ten as well (at #9) but i dont have much to say about it its borderline corny i think but 'undeniable' i guess i like it most for its flaws, the way it sounds like the extended car commercials they play before movies now, they way it makes itself up out of its own exhilaration, its sortof ruthless

i had the prins thomas remix of 'white diamond' as my #8 which has the uncanny knack of making the cosmic out of the everyday

I feel like that bad album and the split of The Magician has really killed that brief wave of Aeroplane joy, but "Whispers" is still awesome.

Yeah, Beautiful Life is corny. I thought that was the intention?

"Beautiful Life" is total hands-in-the-air transcendent cheese but boy does it earn it.

The random moments of brilliance in Aeroplane's career are amongst the best things in any genre any decade. There's not that many producers with the same level of manic detail that they have.

"Dancing in the moonlight" bit slays.

And seeing them at the height of their powers is one of the best nights I've ever had.

what I love about 'Deck The House' is that I think he started off with an expert house chord sequence, then oriented the samples on top to compliment & harmonize with it to take it in more of a dissonant / Public Enemy direction, then subtracted the chord pads. The bass line points at the chords, the dozens of brief tonal stabs hint at the harmony & drive everything forward -- you can feel where the music should be, but the absence is disorienting, the only thing you can count on is the rhythm

I love when akufen throws down those bluesy/honkytonk harmonica "micro"samples on his deck the house type stuff. Just adds this awesome bit of swing and character.

And I just realized that the 'emerge' version I have had on my ipod all this years isn't the actual single. Apparently I was only acquainted with the DFA remix after all.

I saw Akufen walk in to talk to people around the end of mutek this year! Fond memories of a dj set I saw him do at night, outside, near a lake years ago.

I love the original Emerge. Super sparse and perfect. Haven't listened to the album in forever but remember it being really good.

I liked the second album, too. Judge me.

second album was better than the first, even if it had no 'emerge' holding it up

I regret not voting but am happy to see so much stuff I would've voted for making the cut. I'm a little sad that "Transition" didn't make it higher; that's a really "big" song for me.

Brutalga Square I could never get that into. Koze Comes Around got a lot of love but I wasn't able to warm up to it so much.

Antena's "Camina Del Sol (Joakim Mix)" is just too big for words - it's like, trance revivalism meets Ame meets Carl Craig meets, I dunno, just skyscraping largesse. It's almost too big: the whole thing feels incredibly deliberate. But it would be pretty astonishing on the dancefloor.

I went to Las Vegas once and I swear one of the best moments I had there was hearing 'camino del sol' on a club. I don't know if that makes my Vegas trip lame or awesome.

That said I prefer the original one since I knew it first and I have more memories attached to it but the Joakim mix is huge.

Damn I need to hear that. The original is one of my favorite songs ever.
