xhuxk d (deej), Sunday, 25 January 2009 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

might regret this later

twitty milk (deej), Sunday, 25 January 2009 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

so is PPP just being discussed on the alternative R&B thread

twitty milk (deej), Sunday, 25 January 2009 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

Also here: platinum pied pipers/sa-ra/the new downbeat-rnb thing: why don't i like this stuff more?

But yeah, the PPP album is pretty good. I posted this on the other thread, but I like how they use retro-soul as a jumping point to do whatever the fuck they feel, rather than as an end unto itself.

The Reverend, Sunday, 25 January 2009 00:42 (seventeen years ago)

wiki says new erykah album to come out 2/17...did it get pushed back?

BIGrack HOOSein Obama (k3vin k.), Sunday, 25 January 2009 00:45 (seventeen years ago)

presumably?

The Reverend, Sunday, 25 January 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

Guys I'm so excited about Electrik Red (The-Dream's girl group)... their album is going so be insane.

"We Fuck You" is on some spaced-out house&b shit, near the end it gets all acid house-y with the crashes... :

And their new single "So Good" sounds like "Pop Life" by Prince as covered by Kelis:

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

ryan leslie album is dope guys -- 'quicksand' is almost like NERD & I mean that in the best way possible

twitty milk (deej), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

WHAT A GREAT YEAR THIS IS

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:31 (seventeen years ago)

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

Wait, is this Electrik Red album out? These tracks are firrrrre

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

GOT THAT DRINK IN MY CUP!!!!

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

no it's coming out in March I think.

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

Not to jinx everything, but this year's top ten will probably be set before the summer, and it will smash last year's top ten.

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Sunday, 1 February 2009 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

your enthusiasm has this weird effect of making me want to turn into alex in baltimore

twitty milk (deej), Sunday, 1 February 2009 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

oh god

jordy (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 1 February 2009 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

anyway "we fuck you" is incredible as is "drink in my cup"

i very much love the-dream

jordy (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 1 February 2009 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

Damn, this Electrik Red stuff is pretty good.

TACO BIZZLE (The Reverend), Sunday, 1 February 2009 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

i assume u dudes heard the dj drama/too short/the-dream track?

twitty milk (deej), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

yeah I have and it doesn't really work

TACO BIZZLE (The Reverend), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

i really like the electrik red tracks which are doing the rounds - do you guys think they'll be any more than another doomed-to-failure girlgroup experiment though? dame four, cherish, dear jayne...

lex pretend, Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

i mean i love all of those, but i'd really like someone to try to bring back the r&b girlgroup as a viable commercial thing, and i'm not convinced that electrik red will. would love to be proved wrong though.

lex pretend, Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

i would be surprised if they were successful but im pessimistic

jordy (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, this year is off to a great start. My most anticipated album of the year is Fantasia's new one, her last record is a classic IMO and she SLAUGHTERED the Patti Labelle tribute last week:

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:40 (seventeen years ago)

Keri Hilson - In A Perfect World... (LOL)

^^this one too

jordy (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:40 (seventeen years ago)

^^"return the favor" is dope dope dope

has everyone listened to the R&B Kings 2009 comp? i listened to it during the Australian this morning. decent stuff, but besides a couple ciara tracks nothing really jumped out at me

k3vin k., Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I'm not to hopeful about Electrik Red blowing up... I mean, it's definitely possible with Dream & Tricky behind the boards... and there is a sort of resurgence of girlgroups lately : Electrik Red, Sophia Fresh, Dear Jayne, RichGirl.... one of them is bound to blow up right?

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

The RichGirl singer is wicked:

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

single**

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

i really liked one of the bobby valentino tracks on r&b kings - agree that it was underwhelming overall though

lex pretend, Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, it's definitely possible with Dream & Tricky behind the boards

ill come in and rain on this parade before al ship does: as much as i love the-dream and tricky they are from infallible hit makers - i could see them becoming the miss jade to the-dream/tricky's timbaland

jordy (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

far from*

jordy (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, it's definitely not a sure bet. If anyone is a sure bet for blowuptuation it's Sophia Fresh - T-Pain's group - they have the best single out of any of them and T-Pain is the biggest hitmaker... but T-Pain is kind of cooling down now so I dunno...

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

anyway, lex have you heard the Teedra Moses mixtape?

WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:58 (seventeen years ago)

The problem with all these r&b svengali-auteur types trying to put on girl groups is that by the time most of them have the capitol to do that, their a bit past their peak, commercially if not musically.

TACO BIZZLE (The Reverend), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

they're*

TACO BIZZLE (The Reverend), Sunday, 1 February 2009 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

shit, no, i forgot - i was literally on the verge of ordering it the other week but got distracted. i'll do that now, i LOVED 'so kool'.

xp

lex pretend, Sunday, 1 February 2009 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

ok that second fantasia youtube

k3vin k., Sunday, 1 February 2009 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

^ OTM, it actually kinda brought tears to my eyes but I'm sentimental like that

Dimension 5ive, Monday, 2 February 2009 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

omg yes studio version of Gibberish!!!!!!

wait, is this really him singing gibberish over ths whole song?!? badass. fuck some writers block.

Moreno, Monday, 2 February 2009 03:27 (seventeen years ago)

what is "Gibberish"

TACO BIZZLE (The Reverend), Monday, 2 February 2009 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

?

TACO BIZZLE (The Reverend), Monday, 2 February 2009 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

Last track of the new Ryan Leslie album. Not sure if it's a bonus track or what.

Moreno, Monday, 2 February 2009 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

studio version:

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Monday, 2 February 2009 07:33 (seventeen years ago)

wait, ryan leslie's "quicksand" is not produced by the neptunes, right ? in this case, it's the most total ripoff I4ve heard in a while... it's like "compile all the netpunes gimmicks ever in 4 minutes" !

AleXTC, Monday, 2 February 2009 11:53 (seventeen years ago)

a lot of RL's beats have some degree of a Neptunes vibe to them, but on that track he's messing with a style they haven't used in like 7 years.

some dude, Monday, 2 February 2009 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

More good news: Elliott Yamin album in May, single will be released this month...
