Alright so those 10 were the bonus for the 10 tie-ins ahead. Great songs all around. Will give you a couple of minutes to digest those. Actual top 100 coming on up.

Moka, Sunday, 19 August 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

Well, they're all basically based on a template I made and I'm just tweaking colors here and there but thanks! Glad you all like them.

How did I forget to vote for Maybes!?

formerly EDB (ed.b), Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

OMG, that version of "All I Do" is incredibly annoying.

Love the banners' design, tho.

Eric H., Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:22 (thirteen years ago)

Ok, here we go! And we open with a tie.

the m83 is the first thing i voted for itl i think

Lamp, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)

well it turns out i also voted for 'vacuum boogie' and 'present lover'

some thoughts so thoughtless

Lamp, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

Oh shit forgot to add the years. Green Velvet is 2001 and M83 2005.

Moka, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:36 (thirteen years ago)

I was sure a single first place vote would guarantee a spot here - I guess if the present lover got 1 1st place and two other votes on top of that there's tougher competition than I thought.

formerly EDB (ed.b), Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:36 (thirteen years ago)

Expected this one to fare much better considering it did good on the best 2011 tracks poll.

Moka, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:36 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't vote but i'm psyched. looks great Moka. there are already tracks i LOVE mainly TPL and Cable Dazed.

jed_, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:37 (thirteen years ago)

1st place vote means 50 points. According to my table there's 7 nominees fighting for a tie at 50 points. They're fighting for the 356th place!

Moka, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:38 (thirteen years ago)

7 number one votes that got no other votes? love ILM sometimes.

jed_, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:41 (thirteen years ago)

I think Getting Me Down was low down on my ballot but not 100%. Good tune anyway, I may have heard it a few too many times by now but can't really hold that against it.

Moka, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:48 (thirteen years ago)

The banners are exquisite, yeah. I'd forgotten about "All I Do", need more Bump'n'Flex in my life. Lots of things resembling things I've voted for turning up, so can't complain.

etc, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:49 (thirteen years ago)

7 number one votes that got no other votes? love ILM sometimes.

― jed

Actually from those 7 songs with 50 points only 3 of them are number one votes. The rest closed at 50 by chance.

Moka, Sunday, 19 August 2012 23:49 (thirteen years ago)

cheers Moka.

Cool! really looking forward to checking out stuff on this thread, i can allready tell there is going to be a lot of "why didn't i vote for that" moments for me. along with finding cool stuff that i missed first time around. And the graphics look great! thanks for making it happen.

dsb, Monday, 20 August 2012 00:10 (thirteen years ago)

Caught up on all the youtubes now - from the ones that I wasn't familiar with before, I think Invisible Conga People - Cable Dazed is my favorite so far. Really the Killers & M83 tunes are the only ones that I'm not too keen on, so a pretty good start.
Heading to bed now, will rejoin the fray after work tomorrow. Thanks again to Moka for the work on this.

I Shall Be Re-Released (Mr Andy M), Monday, 20 August 2012 00:10 (thirteen years ago)

"Transition" should be much higher imo. but i didn't even vote for it as i thought it was pre 2000. it just feels like an all time classic.

The gap between voting and now has made this more interesting, I think, as I'd forgotten which things got ruled out in my late cuts from 100 or so down to 50. Things I voted for that have ranked so far:

108. Junior Boys - Like a Child (Carl Craig remix) (147 points, 7 votes) [my #39]
99. Green Velvet - La La Land (157 points, 9 votes) [my #37, mostly a vote for every time I've seen him live, though]
98. Blawan - Getting Me Down (158 points, 5 votes) [my #8]
94. Underground Resistance - Transition (160 points, 5 votes) [my #15, really surprised to see it this low]
85. Alter Ego - Rocker (165 points, 5 votes) [my #24, no idea why I rated it so highly tbh except for nostalgia]

toby, Monday, 20 August 2012 01:48 (thirteen years ago)

Solitary Flight was my number 9. Love this track, I only discovered it a couple of years ago. Such a great sample flip, I have probably listened to the Bladerunner OST hundreds of times and yet, when i heard Theo's take on it though instantly familiar i could not place the source. maybe because everyone samples like "these moments lost in time" or "tell me the first thing that cames into your head when i mention your mother" random SFX or even techier parts of the score, but in theos hands "memories of Green" takes on these like weary gospel vibes or something. rather than what i associate with bladerunner vibes.

Right, in contrast with the obsession with "the future" in some of the music. I've literally heard wanker MC's just chant 'the future...the future' at d&b parties.

xpost

Also the advent of smartphones, FB, etc drastically changed the scene starting in the early 00's. Just as the internet completely reshaped the music industry. Can you imagine getting rich off of one 12"?

viborg, Saturday, 30 November 2019 03:12 (six years ago)

yeah it’s an interesting dialectic

djdirtbagstyle, Saturday, 30 November 2019 03:15 (six years ago)

Anyway not sure about the geography represented here but there was just a decent list of top US rave anthems of the 90's on Mixmag that got me a little wistful.

Lol revisiting these results and ballots as I’m revising my own 00’s lists and it’s so noticeable how I made so many mistakes this poll. Wrong videos linked, tracks skipped by accident, not considering the number of votes as tie-breakers.

Anyhow a 2010s poll follow-up would be interesting but doubt we’d have as much participation as we did back then. 50 ballots is a lot for ilm standards.

a 2010s poll would be fun imo

jaymc, Thursday, 9 January 2025 02:57 (one year ago)

I still abide by my top 10 at the time:

the mfa - the difference it makes
gui boratto - atol
ellen allien & apparat - way out
milanese - caramel cognac
mikkel metal - victimizer
paul kalkbrenner - gebrunn gebrunn
adult. - hand to phone
dntel - (this is) the dream of evan and chan (superpitcher remix)
invisible conga people - cable dazed
quarks - i walk (superpitcher schaffel mix)

Soundstream - "live goes on" was a song I didn't know before this poll but it would probably be at the top 10 nowadays. Maybe Easy Lee on the top 10 as well... but I still love all of those songs on my original list too much.
