I was really surprised to see "10:15 Saturday Night" and "All Cats Are Grey" finish so high (but surprised in a good way).

"Just Like Heaven" and "A Forest" finished way ahead and were the clear "consensus" favourites even though they got just zero and one first place vote respectively. I'm not sure this happened in any of the other polls, where the first place votes were so spread out and weren't concentrated at the top of the list. Two-thirds of the first place votes went to songs that finished outside the top ten!!

Thanks for the poll, Nate, this was a lot of fun.

I didn't vote for A Forest either and I also didn't vote for anything after Disintegration. I never let not knowing the complete catalogue put me off voting in these polls.

nate woolls, Sunday, 19 August 2012 09:01 (eleven years ago) link

So long as I know 20 (or 40) songs well enough to put them in some kind of order I usually vote.

"Wailing Wall" is at #97 and #150, so added up it should be at #85.

Gah, I can't believe that happened! I ran through the list 4 or 5 times looking for vote splitters before doing the final tally.

Missed the final rundown, but many thanks Nate.

Thanks, Nate!

Nerdiest poll results thread ever, but still fun.

Haven't got my ballot handy but I voted for 24 tracks, most of which placed. The ones that didn't:

The Blood - in my top 5. Genuinely surprised more people don't rate this.
Screw - again, in my top 5.
Seventeen Seconds - my #10 or thereabouts.
Accuracy - ditto.
Carnage Visors - mid table or just below.

10.15 was my #1

Jeff W, Sunday, 19 August 2012 11:12 (eleven years ago) link

Also fist bump to the other 'fear of ghosts' and 'do the hansa' voter.

nothing in that top 5 surprises me, tbh

closest thing to a surprise in the top 20 is Play For Today

BTW all nothing-past-Disintegration listeners should check out 2001 anagrammatic single Cut Here posthaste, it's one of Robert's most open and honest and touching songs ever, and a great pop tune, and can make you blub too.

I feel like ppl need to dive more deeply into Join the Dots

Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Monday, 20 August 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

it's a bit of a mess tbh, especially disc 4. but if you rip it as mini-albums based on eras and leave out a bunch of the latter stuff it's a wonderful resource

ʘ (sic), Monday, 20 August 2012 14:54 (eleven years ago) link

oh disc 4 is clearly the weakest, but it has "Home", "Waiting" and "A Pink Dream" on it (btw any one of those songs should have replaced "Mint Car" on WMS)

Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Monday, 20 August 2012 14:56 (eleven years ago) link

I'm surprised by "Close To Me" in the top 5. I didn't realise it was a bigger single than "In Between Days" or "Boys Don't Cry". "Primary" beating "Boys Don't Cry" is kind of a surprise too.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 20 August 2012 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

the thing about "Primary" beating "Boys Don't Cry" is "Primary" is super bad ass

Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Monday, 20 August 2012 17:12 (eleven years ago) link

Weird that all the Disintegration singles are basically lumped together at the bottom of the top 20. Would have figured Fascination Street to break out from the pack.

And thanks Nate, great poll! I voted The Exploding Boy #1. Others from my ballot that didn't make top 50 were Sinking, Descent, Harold and Joe, A Few Hours After This, and Screw (and I proudly voted for the Charlotte Sometimes video).

I had "A Few Hours After This" at #19.

I never would have guessed "Primary" would be in my top 5 until I started making the ballot. It really is just kick-ass and learning it's bass-bass-drums just makes it cooler.

Interesting that SS finished second in the albums poll but only sixth in cumulative points (even with the #1 song).

A case of a whole being greater than the sum of its parts etc.

you know, relistening to "Us Or Them" for the first time in years and, aside from "the doleful cant of a bigot", this isn't as embarrassing as I remember it being

Not by me it isn't!

Turrican, Wednesday, 7 October 2015 11:18 (eight years ago) link

so, could a new album be in the air?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 7 October 2015 12:10 (eight years ago) link

Eh, they've been "touring" non-stop for the past few years. I'd prefer an expanded "Wish" at this point.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 7 October 2015 13:29 (eight years ago) link

I'd prefer an expanded "Wish" at this point.

I think this is the general consensus.

austinato (Austin), Wednesday, 7 October 2015 15:46 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, if they could just reissue Wish on 2LP, i'd be happy for them to just shut the whole machine down and call it a day.
