I was looking at my grim, dour ballot and thinking "I don't really want to change any of this, but something's not quite right..." and then I put "Let's Go To Bed" on at #40 and went "perfecto"

<3 lovesong and let's go to bed
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:06 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, me too although I think it was 38 from memory.
― passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:15 (thirteen years ago)
"Let's Go To Bed" has the best lyrics for any chorus in the world, and singing to match.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:16 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, it's kind of too bad that Robert can never remember them
― Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)
would have been in my top ten for sure, maybe top 5
― broom air, Friday, 17 August 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)
btw is there a Banshees poll in the pipeline?
― Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Friday, 17 August 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)
there should be!
― sarahell, Friday, 17 August 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)
I'm amazed this didn't make the top 10
#17 - Pictures Of You, 497 points, 19 votes, 2 #1 votes

― Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)
It was my #1.
― nate woolls, Friday, 17 August 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)
I am too, but also I didn't vote for it.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 August 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)
It's the drumming that I love on the original though.
― nate woolls, Friday, 17 August 2012 20:11 (thirteen years ago)
It was in my teens.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)
basically I love this song, but I REALLY love that remix
the drumming on the original is great but I really dig the guitar/bass interplay and how the synths divebomb in on it, and then the counterpoint between everything as every instrument noodles along on its own complimentary melody line while Robert floats his vocal line over the top
I also love how, in the remix, this organized chaos drops in and out over the dub beat
it was not on my ballot but I totally love it
― Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)
"slow drowned you were angels" thru to "open my eyes but i never see anything" is perfectly written and perfectly sung

this and 'like cockatoos' have great run on sentences/lyrics.
― pandemic, Friday, 17 August 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)
Me too -- my #5.
"Fascination Street," I remember I was dubious about it when I first heard it ahead of the album release. After all the color and energy of KMKMKM it seemed awfully murky and moody. But it clicked for me when I heard it in the context of Disintegration.
― something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Friday, 17 August 2012 20:34 (thirteen years ago)
real talk

My #4:

― nate woolls, Friday, 17 August 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)
I didn't think i was going to vote for Fascination Street, but the "move! to! the beat!" part squeaked it in at the bottom.
― da croupier, Friday, 17 August 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
Who was my co-#1 Fascination Street friend?
TOO LOW
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 August 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)
I have just got back from the pub and am watching The Armageddon Factor to accompany it. Oh, Mary Tamm. (to Would Have Smashed I go)

Catching up here a bit. "Lovesong" was famously kept off the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 by Janet Jackson's "Miss You Much".
I'm glad my gamble worked and "Play For Today" and "Pictures Of You" placed, even though I had to cut them off my ballot at the last minute.

Wow @ "Disintegration" beating all the singles from the album!
― LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:14 (thirteen years ago)
Play for Today far too low. Guess that just leaves A Forest off of 17S still to place
― Dr X O'Skeleton, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:14 (thirteen years ago)
my number one.
― Gurdas Mane (crüt), Friday, 17 August 2012 22:18 (thirteen years ago)
that instrumental hook. song gives me chills. it's so good.
And "One Hundred Years" was the last from Pornography. Still one left from Disintegration though, probably Top 10... (x-post)
― LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:18 (thirteen years ago)
Always Jumping Someone Else's Train not made an appearance yet either, which surprises me. Top ten?
― Dr X O'Skeleton, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:19 (thirteen years ago)
Another one I thought would be top 10 for sure:
#12 - A Night Like This, 564 points, 25 votes, 2 #1 votes
The Head on the Door, 1985

― nate woolls, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:19 (thirteen years ago)
Never been a big fan of this one, despite it containing a bunch of things I like in a song.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:38 (thirteen years ago)
i am a huge fan of this one! good voting, folks.
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Friday, 17 August 2012 22:39 (thirteen years ago)
So close..
#11 - Jumping Someone Else's Train, 587 points, 25 votes, 1 #1 vote

Top 10 tomorrow.
― nate woolls, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:40 (thirteen years ago)
d'oh!
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:40 (thirteen years ago)
I'm amazed that placed so high, really...
― Mark G, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:42 (thirteen years ago)
I'm thinking Robert Smith, pop genius, won this poll. His gloomy goth side didn't fare so well....
― Dr X O'Skeleton, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:51 (thirteen years ago)
I had 'Jumping' at 27.
A lot of my picks have started showing, though only two of my top ten have made it so far.
― Austin, Friday, 17 August 2012 22:59 (thirteen years ago)
I was away in Rome when this was polling, otherwise I'd have voted, and it would all have been the pop stuff, soz. Including "Lets -> Bed"
― Mark G, Friday, 17 August 2012 23:02 (thirteen years ago)
I wouldn't quite say that. 14 out of 40 are from SS/Faith/Pornography (more than half the total songs from those albums), plus all those Disintegration album cuts. But yeah, if you write a bunch of great pop songs, those will probably show up in a poll.
― something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Friday, 17 August 2012 23:30 (thirteen years ago)
Was sure "A Night Like This" would be Top 10 too! Was starting to think "Jumping..." wasn't gonna make it at all. Nice to see it so high.
― LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 17 August 2012 23:44 (thirteen years ago)
Kind of getting worried that my #1 won't place. It's either gonna be 7 big singles, 2 album tracks and 1 b-side OR 8 big singles, 1 album track and 1 b-side (hoping it's the former).
