i had nice things to say about arcturus once:
http://www.villagevoice.com/2003-05-06/music/werewolves-of-norway/
but i kinda made them sound like hell too.
― scott seward, Friday, 17 August 2012 05:40 (thirteen years ago)
It is true that bm in particular is p full of assholes. I feel like its a tacit understanding amongst fans of the genre that you don't nec support anything the persons involved in making the album actually do or think. Of course there are also loads of great and smart ppl doing it too, and it's a special treat when you find someone like say Ludicra

hello?
THE RACUSM IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE THREAD!!!
why don't people just listen to other good black metal? there is a ton of it. unless you are siegbran. then you are just a lost cause and a lifer. and siegbran does own every graveland album. autographed even!
― Siegbran, Friday, 17 August 2012 10:12 (thirteen years ago)
i was being sarcastic there.
― scott seward, Friday, 17 August 2012 12:40 (thirteen years ago)
i 100% reject the notion that the wearing of a burzum shirt indicates that one is "a little ok with racism"
it kinda does though! "I'm willing to advertise this album by a white nationalist" is at least part of what a Burzum t-shirt says, to a certain extent you don't get to define the terms of the brand you wear.
― steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Friday, 17 August 2012 12:56 (thirteen years ago)
i really do think it means "racism doesn't effect my life".

i'd like to add a burzum tshirt related anecdote
a few years ago i was at the empty bottle in chicago, and i was there to see nachtmystium, and maybe yakuza? i don't remember who the other two bands were. who cares. anyway, it was around the time that there was a bit of brouhaha about the band going soft/darkwave/gothy/dance and the singer/guitarist/guy whose band it is had just gotten his hair cut much shorter (doesn't sound like a big deal, but i heard people talking!) and before the show he was hanging around the bar and...wearing a burzum tshirt.
by the time he went on stage, he had changed his shirt. i don't remember what the band was, only that he had changed it. i never really figured out what this meant, though -- to him, to the other people there, to whomever. (i also didn't ask anyone) does this happen all the time? i couldn't even figure out really what this said to me about him and his motivations to myself. i don't know the guy, i certainly can't read his mind. how would i know what that means?
tl; drin a way i think any one way of viewing burzum shirt wearing does not cover the spectrum of possible implications, so just airing out what it means to different people is a valuable exercise. at least i think so. also i suppose i am a hipster douchebag for being at this show in the first place. (j/k, i'm not)

most people I know change shirts before they go onstage - it feels nicer to go onstage in a fresh shirt instead of what you've been wearing all day

it feels nicer to go onstage in a fresh shirt instead of what you've been wearing all daymakes perfect sense. thank you for illuminating that -- and you see, i had figured as much, but there was so much baggage that it seemed like maybe i was missing something

would be so cool if theat picture of the four dudes with laptops was a picture of them onstage performing their new digi-metal epic. wave of the future.

So not going to burzum
― mod night at the oasis (NickB), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)
This is an Evil Needles DIY original. I totally reconstructed a licensed Burzum T-shirt into this custom top. It now has a more flattering shape, a low cut off the shoulder neck and shortened sleeves. This is a well made piece that's built to last. All ends have been serged to prevent fraying and then stitched on a regular sewing machine to make all the seams stronger. If you like this top but don't like the band I can make this exact top using an alternate T-shirt just click here.

it was also around the time that there was a bit of a brouhaha about the band's early association with a NSBM-affiliated record label, so...

Like I know ppl lie to throw sociopath around but I wouldn't be suprised with him...like I bet he's from a totally nice family upbringing and went to good schools etc
Ppl do throw sociopath around, and the word often gets used as a weird synonym for TRUE EVIL PLS PUT THIS GUY TO DEATH etc etc but yeah Varg is a sociopath in the driest sense of the term, that seems beyond debate.
