it's nagl on avril for different reasons, one of which is that it wasn't a gl in the first place
erm :/
i don't hate it but i probably will after like ten listens
i dunno... i miss the narratives and lyrical specifities and stuff... not really what i wanted but i mean this is off like 2 listens thus far. i guess she really wants to expand her fanbase beyond north america. defo sounds like it could be ubiquitous or whatever but i mean... erm ok... :/
maybe i'll end up loving it? lol this post is a mess but i've been waiting for this for 2 years and now all this info coming out at once aaaaaaa

along with avril, i immediately flashed on JoJo hearing this.
I don't think it's horrible Taylor Swift's doing this type of thing per se, just ironic cuz she always seemed like someone who couldn't wait to grow up.

anyway the thing that this song reminds me of is "my life would suck without you", i think you all remember how i felt about that, it's not quite that mediocre and i enjoy it BUT.
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 12:02 (twelve years ago) link
it's that clumsy lyrical phrasing in the chorus. basic.

He said the way my blue eyes shinedPut those Georgia stars to shame that nightI said: "That's a lie."Just a boy in a Chevy truckThat had a tendency of gettin' stuckOn backroads at nightAnd I was right there beside him all summer longAnd then the time we woke up to find that summer gone
But when you think Tim McGrawI hope you think my favorite songThe one we danced to all night longThe moon like a spotlight on the lakeWhen you think happinessI hope you think that little black dressThink of my head on your chestAnd my old faded blue jeansWhen you think Tim McGrawI hope you think of me
September saw a month of tearsAnd thankin' God that you weren't hereTo see me like thatBut in a box beneath my bedIs a letter that you never readFrom three summers backIt's hard not to find it all a little bitter sweetAnd lookin' back on all of that, it's nice to believe
When you think Tim McGrawI hope you think my favorite songThe one we danced to all night longThe moon like a spotlight on the lakeWhen you think happinessI hope you think that little black dressThink of my head on your chestAnd my old faded blue jeansWhen you think Tim McGrawI hope you think of me
And I'm back for the first time since thenI'm standin' on your streetAnd there's a letter left on your doorstepAnd the first thing that you'll read is:
When you think Tim McGrawI hope you think my favorite songSomeday you'll turn your radio onI hope it takes you back to that placeWhen you think happinessI hope you think that little black dressThink of my head on your chestAnd my old faded blue jeansWhen you think Tim McGrawI hope you think of me
Oh, think of meMmmm

i was just thinking how every first single she's had is worse than the last. and like yeah her debut song is still her very best but it's such an all-time pinnacle of music that I guess it's not too depressing that nothing else can really compare (the vast majority of all her other stuff is still a++ good).
everytime I listen to "tim mcgraw" and realise it was written by a 14 y/o makes me go o.O - like how the fuck?!
― prolego, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 12:18 (twelve years ago) link

So what? I didn't get it with the "CR Jepsen is 26, too old for this shii" argument and I don't get it with Avril either. Most women I know are chin-stroking think pieces in their early 20s, and raving horn-dogs in their 30s. I mean, this whole "she's too old for this" is male gaze talking, if I may say so in the gentlest of terms― Ówen P., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 11:54 AM (20 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Yeah, I was sorta joking in re avril and her music and pop music in general. As long as you're striving for excellence, ya know. But it would be sorta cool if she got rid of raccoon eyes for 2013.

If only Enchanted had been released in a single (in a way that didn't have to truncate it too much) and became the "My Heart Will Go On" of our time.

It's a shame that one of the most popular singers of the day decided her strategy would be to become even more popular. LOL, Max Martin, sigh... was Mutt too busy with Nickelback? Dr. Luke luking it up somewhere else?

I'm in the minority, I guess: I dislike not so much the indie line as the bad acting she puts into saying the line. It's like a kid wearing a big black mustache.

It's like that moment in Talking Heads' "Wild Wild Life" video when the camera zooms into David Byrne's face for the only time so that no one can doubt it's ol' David mugging in a mustache.

it's this generation's "I certainly do" from "You Learn"
― steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:16 (twelve years ago) link
and the rest of the spoken asides from "You Learn" that inspired a generation to pray for death
man i have never thought of "i certainly do" as spoken, just some rarely-tapped purgatorial aspect of alanis' horrible drifting whine
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:20 (twelve years ago) link
finally won over by the "next chapter" and "the end" asides in "the story of us" by singing it at karaoke because it is SUPER dramatic but also the drama is totally undone by how awkward it is

Too bad TS is going to jail now RIP
51-year-old George Boedecker, one of the three men who founded the controversial footwear company Crocs, was arrested by Boulder Police officers yesterday and charged with driving under the influence after he was found passed out in his Porsche.Boedecker initially tried to pin the blame on singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, whom he claimed was his girlfriend.Per the incident report, Boedecker said Swift was in the driver's seat, but had run off during an altercation. Asked by the cops where Swift was now, Boedecker pointed towards a nearby yard and responded, "Nashville."Swift — "a really fucking famous singer" according to Boedecker — was "batshit crazy," the foam clog tycoon said.Boedecker continued to be extremely inimical toward the officers, telling them to "go fuck yourselves in the ass" and "fucking die." In a last-ditch effort to wiggle his way out of the collar, Boedecker, a deep-pocketed benefactor and philanthropist, attempted to throw some weight around, telling the officers he "couldn't believe we were doing this after all he had done for this city."The braggadocio proved pointless, as Boedecker was ultimately booked into Boulder County jail. The Smoking Gun notes that he was wearing flip flops at the time.
