No Detroit? What a joke!

broom air, Monday, 13 August 2012 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

Model 500?

it's-a me, irl (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 August 2012 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

Model 500, No UFO's 12-inch, 1985 xpost

Colonel Poo, Monday, 13 August 2012 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

That's actually the only redeeming thing abt this list, no outsized Detroit fetish. But these days, most of that died down a bit anyway I guess? Still, Jaguar?

Siegbran, Monday, 13 August 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)

can't fetishize Detroit enough but it's fair not to overload the whole history of electronic music with it. anyway, this is a list for Mojo readers, big surp it's kinda conservative and ob(li)vious. gonna vote for the most contrary option when i've decided what that is

just one little Tayto (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 August 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)

Gigi d'Agostino

Siegbran, Monday, 13 August 2012 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

that oval album is not good. It's got vocals.

windjammer voyage (blank), Monday, 13 August 2012 19:04 (thirteen years ago)

Damn, this poll was difficult. There's a lot of great records here that I've played the shit out of. I ultimately went with Violator.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Monday, 13 August 2012 19:15 (thirteen years ago)

Mine too - I could have tossed one to Neu!, Chill Out, Violator, Autobahn, Planet Rock, or Low, but Solid State is probably the most *fun* listen of all those, so what are you going to do about that

frogbs, Monday, 13 August 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

OK Model 500 I missed it. But that is a little like having "This Charming Man" represent thirty years of Manchester guitar groups

broom air, Monday, 13 August 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

howww does it feeeel ♫

reductio ad burzum (flopson), Monday, 13 August 2012 19:52 (thirteen years ago)

turgid, overplayed, boring?

just one little Tayto (Noodle Vague), Monday, 13 August 2012 19:52 (thirteen years ago)

to feign disgust at electronic music polls every week for months ♫

reductio ad burzum (flopson), Monday, 13 August 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

xp still delivers imo!

reductio ad burzum (flopson), Monday, 13 August 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

drawings by teen cultists (Crabbits), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 03:57 (thirteen years ago)

never heard White Noise till now, holy shit

Gurdas Mane (crüt), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 05:52 (thirteen years ago)

the 00s records they chose are probably the biggest indictment of the whole sorry enterprise though

― lex pretend, Monday, August 13, 2012 1:31 AM (21 hours ago)

the only indictment, really. it's a pretty commendable list of interesting (mostly) electronic stuff up through the 80s. gets a little iffy in the 90s (i mean, i love that air EP, but come on), then becomes a sick, sad parody of mojo putting together such a list in the 00s. hot chip and animal collective are cringeworthy inclusions, and while there's no shame in julia holter, it feels awfully arbitrary.

kind of hate myself for it, but i can't deny dr. who.

contenderizer, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 06:04 (thirteen years ago)

Hmmm. 2 Kieren Hebden records, FlyLo and SBTRKT for the 00's? I guess that's a step in the right direction but it would still kill them to include a recent record you could actually dance to.

Shepton Mullet (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:18 (thirteen years ago)

I mean, I've got as much of a hard-on for Kieren Hebden as anyone but it seems excessive to include two of his outfits when others didn't get a look-in. No one else got doubles on the original list.

Oh wait no I think Delia Derbyshire is on there twice in various forms, but come on. She is Delia Derbyshire. Oh, and Brian Eno. Yeah, I'll allow that.

Shepton Mullet (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:20 (thirteen years ago)

This poll is forgiven. Seriously, crüt, never before?? It's so your thing.

emil.y, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 11:59 (thirteen years ago)

It's kind of the perfect album

drawings by teen cultists (Crabbits), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 12:49 (thirteen years ago)

Kenny Everett used to use bits of it as jingles

Mark G, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:33 (thirteen years ago)

Pretty useless list.

Double Dee & Steinski are "electronic" in the same way Gene Vincent was "electronic."

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:36 (thirteen years ago)

also Augustus Pablo "electronic" wtf where's Buchanan and Goodman when you need them?

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:38 (thirteen years ago)

No Stockhausen, no Laurie Spiegel, no Sun Ra, no Art of Noise...

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:39 (thirteen years ago)

that Pablo record is their arbitrary dub reggae record because, y'know, dub is electronic, right?

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:45 (thirteen years ago)

...no Can, no Beaver and Krause, no Laurie Anderson IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT MAKE YOUR OWN LIST but anyway

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:45 (thirteen years ago)

...no Xenakis, no Lee Perry (if you want dub), no Miles Davis or Gil Evans (whaddya mean, Gil Evans? Check out There Comes A Time)...

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

No Hawkwind...

Mark G, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)

No Alice Deejay...

Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:48 (thirteen years ago)

Cong rat ululations (seandalai), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:54 (thirteen years ago)

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:00 (thirteen years ago)

No Bjork is slightly surprising given Mojo's general bent.

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:03 (thirteen years ago)

Not arguing for her inclusion btw but she is kind of the acceptable 6 Music-friendly face of that kind of thing.

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

TERRY FUCKING RILEY

Clarke B., Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

It's not even the correct TERRY FUCKING RILEY record either.

He was so much better when he worked with Guy and Bobby Brown I'LL GET MY COAT

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

Scooter was robbed.

Siegbran, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

Amazing restraint in not including the Beachy Boys and the Beatles band.

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

It's not even the correct TERRY FUCKING RILEY record either.

Which would you prefer? I think Rainbow is my favourite.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

I like "In C" best, because I have one and I have not heard the others.

Mark G, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

It's not electronic though.

Mark G, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

lol sund4ar read the next line of that post

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:43 (thirteen years ago)

Oh ha, I didn't remember who Teddy Riley was tbh. Had to look up the reference.

And, yeah, In C is acoustic.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

tbf I thought MC was making a sincere statement but then went for the dadjoek anyway, to get max value from the post
