Busta interlude not as good as the ones on Supa Dupa Fly but just having the guy around to talk shit for a minute or two on someone else's album is just a great idea, goes by too fast for me to even think of skipping it

First impulse is Scream but obviously I am going to have to listen like 10 times to confirm this. Mainly for the "make him sing high soprana - aaaaaaaaah!" bit but there is so much joy on this album.

it's kinda underrated how much missy switched up her vocal style on this album though - all of a sudden she was BELLOWING, IN YOUR FACE, LOUD

Agreed xpost. This must be a 'sentimental favorite' track poll, right? Because GUFO easily towers above the rest (and the rest is damn fine stuff).

GUFO is an all-time classic but it doesn't tower over the rest - i consider "one minute man", "lick shots" and "whatcha gon do" at least on a par with it

"Lick Shots" does get me going pretty good.

I know that GUFO was the powerhouse hit that was EVERYWHERE for about 2 years, all over MTV, played in every club, forever. But I think that over familiarity has kind of rubbed some of the shininess off it. While One Minute Man, Lick Shots, Scream aka Itchin', Old School Joint, 4 My People - these seem just as judderingly new and exciting and "omg did she really just *do* that?!?!" as the first time I heard them. And I'm still only 2/3 of the way through. I know that every time I get to the bit where she goes all "why are you singing like you're in church, are you trying to get some new choir robes?" or whatever it is she says, I just die laughing every time like I am 12 again.

Like there's just so many songs I could be torn between.

But there's just something about Scream that sounds so... LOW. Like, the scratchy shaker percussion on it, I don't just want to dance, I want to get my ass down close to the ground and shake it about. That song *is* sex. But there's so many songs on this album that have that delicious feeling.

i kind of way prefer the basement jaxx remix of "4 my people" (maybe partly down to familiarity as that was the single version here, but i feel actual house beats suit the vibe of the song more)

Nah, the brilliance of that whole track is the freakiness of the backing. It sounds really kinda... ordinary with a standard House backing.

So tempted to go for comedy vote for "I've Changed" because it does crack me up every time.

The first Missy album I remember anticipating...

Voted for "Lick Shots" but I love how "Take Away" sounds like it's stopping and starting every few seconds.

"get ur freak on" is fucking GREAT though, new century classic. that's not at all diminished by the album's other high points. i mean, i didn't vote here but would totally have gone with the hit.

i totally understand liking the rest of the album more, i love GUFO but there are ways in which it kind of lacks the energy the other stuff has. but shouting people down about it is just kinda pointless, it is what it is.

I think what makes GUFO fade over time in the context of the album is that it's not a particularly strong song, whereas stuff like "One Minute Man", "Lick Shots", "Scream AKA Itchin", "Step Off", "Dog In Heat" etc. all deliver in that department while still totally banging.

As a one-off joint it's still a great everyone goes WTF but still goes to the dancefloor moment.

So this poll got about 40 votes while the Grateful Dead poll pulled in 130 votes. There's a little piece of old-ILM that just died crying over its Now That's What I Call Music compilations. ;_;
