sorry, i wasn't around last week but the summer of the 80's continues with an insanely great year.

3 60 Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
― Mordy, Thursday, 9 August 2012 02:22 (thirteen years ago)
Voted G'N'R, but I think Henry Threadgill's Easily Slip Into Another World is my actual favorite from '87.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 August 2012 02:24 (thirteen years ago)
sidebet on which one will win, my money's on Prince
― steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 9 August 2012 02:24 (thirteen years ago)

Butthole Surfers would get my vote in that second 25. Quite a year all around.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 9 August 2012 02:28 (thirteen years ago)
incredible a year where Kick, Bad, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Come On Pilgrim Ep can't even break into the Top 25.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 9 August 2012 02:29 (thirteen years ago)
sign 'o' the times is probably the best album here, but i went with sister, no deliberation, no regrets. i couldn't vote for another. it would be like rubbing another man's rhubarb.

Secrets of the Beehive, where arrrrrrrre you???
― mr.raffles, Thursday, 9 August 2012 02:57 (thirteen years ago)
I feel huffy about it, but I guess it'll have to be "Paid in Full."
― mr.raffles, Thursday, 9 August 2012 02:58 (thirteen years ago)
just missed the cut off, number 29.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 9 August 2012 03:01 (thirteen years ago)
must. read. more. carefully.
didn't miss the cut in this house! i sold that thing to SO many unsuspecting, suburban Musicland customers when it came out. "You MUST buy this!" hahaha
I'm sure most of them avoided me after that recommendation.
― mr.raffles, Thursday, 9 August 2012 03:06 (thirteen years ago)
there are only three years left in this thing...
― Bee OK, Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:18 (thirteen years ago)
[gunshot]
― some dude, Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:20 (thirteen years ago)
what a year. can't resist going for Spacemen 3 tho, probably the most forward-thinking/unique sounding thing on here
― Harvey Cartel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:23 (thirteen years ago)
killing me to vote against prince and dm but i cant in good faith vote for anything other than songs about fucking.
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:28 (thirteen years ago)
THIS IS HARD

Songs About Fucking changed my life, so that.
― nate woolls, Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:31 (thirteen years ago)
I like Songs About Fucking but it was never a life changer for me.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:32 (thirteen years ago)
man i think in a lot of ways it rewired my listening brain more than anything else i ever heard really
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)
There are about 5 I could vote for but I think I need to go with The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come.
― (✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:36 (thirteen years ago)
4 303 Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full
^^btw the towering singles aside, i'd really advise anyone thinking of voting for this to listen to the whole thing as i have recently, pretty spotty
voted Dino Jr slightly over Boogie Down Productions

top 5:1. Signs2. Sister3. Appetite4. Living 5. Document
― da croupier, Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:52 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah SAF absolutely, totally rewired my 15 year old brain
― nate woolls, Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)
Only heard it relatively recently but that Salif Keita record is p good. Voted SY though.
― mod night at the oasis (NickB), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)
i was actually disappointed when i got the cd of SAF in high school, heard they were so evil and scary but couldn't actually hear the album well. i guess he did say "fuck digital."
― da croupier, Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)
I didn't know a thing about it when I bought it, I bought it based purely on the title and the cover.
― nate woolls, Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)
pretty spotty
totally agree. I have taken shit for arguing that Rakim didn't always get backed by the best beats but it is something that really consistently bugs me about his catalog
― Harvey Cartel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)
I still feel that Atomizer > SAF
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

― da croupier, Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)
Rich Man's 8-Track Tape is my favorite, personally
― Harvey Cartel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:37 (thirteen years ago)
Two Nuns & A Pack Mule is better than both.
― nate woolls, Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:40 (thirteen years ago)
xp: you know RM8TT is basically Atomizer + singles/EPs, right
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)
those singles are key!
― Harvey Cartel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:45 (thirteen years ago)
Sister, obv. Admittedly, I've never heard Signs.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 9 August 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)
Pleased To Meet Me among the choices, but Game Theory's Lolita Nation in reality.
― to welcome jer.fairall, pie is served. (jer.fairall), Thursday, 9 August 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)
someone has to rep for Actually.
In other polls I've voted for SOTT but I'm feeling Hysteria, Tunnel of Love, Paid in Full and Sister.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 9 August 2012 19:35 (thirteen years ago)
lol woah i missed that hysteria and tunnel of love were on here. might put them over Living and Document.
― da croupier, Thursday, 9 August 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)
still signs all the way though.
― da croupier, Thursday, 9 August 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)

neither of these albums are going to win this poll, but I wanted to point out that they are both stellar pieces of work
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Friday, 10 August 2012 15:54 (thirteen years ago)
i like that, i think my vote for the next 25 would probably be Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me as i'm just finishing my Cure poll picks and might make five songs...
― Bee OK, Saturday, 11 August 2012 23:36 (thirteen years ago)
Damn what a year!
― broom air, Sunday, 12 August 2012 00:32 (thirteen years ago)
I voted Sonic Youth, but it could easily be five or maybe ten others.
― broom air, Sunday, 12 August 2012 00:33 (thirteen years ago)
Dino Jr.
― o. nate, Sunday, 12 August 2012 00:34 (thirteen years ago)

I voted Sinéad, because somehow my favorite Cure album wasn't an option.
― LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 13 August 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)
This was between Music For The Masses and Actually for me. After much deliberation, went for Music For The Masses.

Def Leppard has been getting murdered in these poll
Yeah, it's interesting. Hysteria is good and an interesting combination of different things but maybe it's not enough of any one thing for anyone to vote for it as the best album of 1987? Hard rock fans might rank it below Appetite, fans of electronic pop production might rank it below Prince or Depeche Mode, fans of trippy rock music with weird noises might rate it below Sonic Youth? I dunno, just riffing.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 02:29 (thirteen years ago)
voting is still open for a few more days:
