Voted G'N'R, but I think Henry Threadgill's Easily Slip Into Another World is my actual favorite from '87.

incredible a year where Kick, Bad, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Come On Pilgrim Ep can't even break into the Top 25.

sign 'o' the times is probably the best album here, but i went with sister, no deliberation, no regrets. i couldn't vote for another. it would be like rubbing another man's rhubarb.

Only heard it relatively recently but that Salif Keita record is p good. Voted SY though.

i was actually disappointed when i got the cd of SAF in high school, heard they were so evil and scary but couldn't actually hear the album well. i guess he did say "fuck digital."

I didn't know a thing about it when I bought it, I bought it based purely on the title and the cover.

totally agree. I have taken shit for arguing that Rakim didn't always get backed by the best beats but it is something that really consistently bugs me about his catalog

Yeah, it's interesting. Hysteria is good and an interesting combination of different things but maybe it's not enough of any one thing for anyone to vote for it as the best album of 1987? Hard rock fans might rank it below Appetite, fans of electronic pop production might rank it below Prince or Depeche Mode, fans of trippy rock music with weird noises might rate it below Sonic Youth? I dunno, just riffing.
