the only bad thing about this album is the rubbish black type on white background fucking up the cover

akm, Monday, 13 August 2007 03:52 (eighteen years ago)

such a tough call, but there goes a tenner just to make sure it gets some love.

shanissey, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:02 (eighteen years ago)

Heheh. I was just going to say that song should get some love.

One of the rabble

Bimble, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:07 (eighteen years ago)

Surmounter, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:18 (eighteen years ago)

why did i post Luv the cover completely out of the blue?

okay bump

Surmounter, Thursday, 16 August 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

wow, they're all great songs.

i could almost go with 'sat in your lap'

but i'm not gonna.

NOT TILL I'M READY FOR YOU-HOO-HOOO

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 16 August 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

=)

Surmounter, Thursday, 16 August 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

color me GAFFA

The Macallan 18 Year, Thursday, 16 August 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

I would vote for "Hello Earth" as well ... then again I just voted for "All The Love"

zaxxon25, Thursday, 16 August 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

oooh. well i'm on the HoL poll next

Surmounter, Thursday, 16 August 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

Good on you! Someone should do that.

Bimble, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

"sat on your lap" is my fave kate bush song

Dominique, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

or in

Dominique, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 18 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

i love the lyrics to get out of my house.

Surmounter, Saturday, 18 August 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

see the hackles on the cat - STANDING

impudent harlot, Sunday, 19 August 2007 07:10 (eighteen years ago)

Damnit the suspense is killing me with this poll.

Bimble, Sunday, 19 August 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 19 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

wow guyz. i do feel tho that night of the swallow and pull out the pin are underrepresented.

Surmounter, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

HoL poll question - should I include the bonus tracks? I haven't even heard them (Lagan Love etc), cuz they didn't come with my copy, so I'm thinking No.

Surmounter, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

"Leave It Open" particularly hard done by.

This album ranked:

The Dreaming
Leave it Open
Night of the Swallow
Suspended In Gaffa
Pull Out The Pin
Sat In Your Lap
Get Out of My House
All The Love
There Goes A Tenner
Houdini

Tim F, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

my choice wuz robbed! I am proud to represent.

sleeve, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

Voters were likely swayed by the presence of sampled donkey imitations.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

I used to think Leave it Open was a weak spot, but I've fallen in love with her lithe and freaky glam vocal in the intro, totally perfect.

Alex xy, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

i agree with the top 3 :)

but yeah, for me its really hard to rank this album. i find it extremely even overall.

Charlie Howard, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

I'm glad I voted, or "Suspended in Gaffa" would have come in second!

nabisco, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

haha

suspended in Gaffa is so rich.

okay so i'm doing the HoL poll w/out bonus tracks then. speak now or forever hold it.

Surmounter, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

without is more pure. besides, i haven't heard the bonus tracks :(

Charlie Howard, Monday, 20 August 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

Interesting results indeed. I too would have picked Leave It Open last.

Bimble, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

I'm shocked by the "get out of my house" love ... who knew? I guess people love donkeys. Or maybe mules?

zaxxon25, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

oh ya i suspected that would cinch it

Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

I'm shocked by the "get out of my house" love ... who knew? I guess people love donkeys. Or maybe mules?

they are just one of the 26 awesome things about that track

blueski, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

Oh go on then steve...

Tim F, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

i just love the whole message, cuz i TOTALLY feel the same way about my house, and i suspect ppl who listen to the dreaming a lot are the types of ppl whose

houses are full of mistakes

this house has seen all i have done. GET OUT OF MY HOUSE.

she takes no prisoners.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

there are few things as empowering as telling someone to get out of your house.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

Now's about the time of day I like to change into the Mule.

blueski, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

the 'I am the concierge chez-moi, honey' bit is particularly beautiful

blueski, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

i know i can never resist chiming in with her there

Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

it's funny cuz it's not obviously like an emotional song, but one day i was listening to it and i really got the emotional intensity of it - the intensity of what it is to be by yourself in your house.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

thing i like abt "get out of my house" = the incredibly startling scream she lets out right before the male voice (ghost?) comes in

impudent harlot, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

yay my fave tied for first and I didn't even vote

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

i tend to associate this album w/ a time when i was feeling anxious (in a bad way) about lots of things so i still get this sort of knot in my stomach whenever i hear that track in particular

impudent harlot, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

xpost "get out of my house" i mean

impudent harlot, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

suspended in gaffa fuiud

cankles, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

well, it is definitely a disturbed track, so it's no surprise you've attached it to a disturbed frame of mind

Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

not really sure how i could ever say that "get out of my house" isn't an obviously emotional song...

Surmounter, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I never really stopped to think what that song might be about, but I guess like many songs, it could be a lot of things. I just love the breathless back-and-forth, barely controlled intensity of the way she sings on that, and it makes it fun to sing along. So dramatic.

Bimble, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

how did i miss this poll, what the hell

suspended in gaffa is easily in my top 3 songs all-thyme, right there with hunger strike and total eclipse of the heart

So Wild Beasts stole their entire Cockney-criminal art-pop schtick from "There Goes A Tenner," huh?

goodoldneon, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 21:03 (six years ago)

I am proud to have been the only vote for "Leave It Open"

The Squalls Of Hate (sleeve), Tuesday, 14 January 2020 21:06 (six years ago)

four years pass...

I have decided this album will be my go-to answer for favorite album of all time for the following 3 years.

Incredibly accurate top 4 in this poll

nashwan, Monday, 24 June 2024 18:31 (one year ago)

Marvelous album. Can't believe I've never commented on this thread, I hope I voted in the poll. (Tho no idea how I did if I did, probably GOOMH but possibly the title track.) To me it sits separate even from her other work, it has a musical and psychological density that isn't like any other album.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Monday, 24 June 2024 20:35 (one year ago)

I still like it a shade less than Hounds of Love. Maybe the only album in my collection about which I can apply admire-more-than-like.

But I can blast "Houdini" and especially "Get Out of My House" anytime.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 June 2024 20:39 (one year ago)

Original mix of ‘..Lap’ still unavailable anywhere other than the original vinyl?? Baffling. I think I prefer it.

I unequivocally adore this album...for me her crowning achievement...some days it could be my favourite ever album...talk about channeling "England's Hidden Reverse"...she was 23 years old when she made it...astonishing

X-Prince Protégé (sonnyboy), Tuesday, 25 June 2024 02:39 (one year ago)

A friend lent me this album when it came out; I had not heard any Kate Bush before. When I returned it a few days later, I remember telling him that it confuses and frightens me now, but I'll probably love it in a few years. Which was true.

Some songs scared me like hearing Meet the Residents for the first time.

Hideous Lump, Tuesday, 25 June 2024 05:13 (one year ago)

At that point Kate had three top 10 hits in the UK charts. So yeah, selling this album as a pop album of a 23 year old “mainstream” artist blows my mind too. It’s one of those albums I can’t believe they exist.

It was a mistake releasing “suspended in gaffa” as the fourth single imho ruining its chances. It is by far the most accesible thing in here.

Also might be an insane suggestion but “get out of my house” should have been a single instead of “there goes a tenner”. Yeah it’s very nightmarish at points but it’s so catchy. It doesn’t seem too much of a jump from the other singles released tbh.
