Oh, of course. Stronger than me is really lovely and although I've never seen her live, her live t.v. performances are so garishly shambolic and throaty. And above that really great. To go back to the Church/Winehouse Beat It performance. Amy's voice kinda veers all over the backing, like an R'nB Alec Ounsworth, shit and wonderful in equal measures. Church sounds so dead and together in comparison. All that staccatto enunciation and phrasing. I repeatedly go back to it on Youtube. It's also HILARIOUS.

Yeah, I asked around and not many people could figure out why the Pipettes-- love em or hate em-- were on the bill with Amy. (I still haven't had a chance to check her out but I will definitely stick around to see her on your say-so).

The Pipettes have added 2 headlining gigs in the area since this one was booked, so those will probably be better for gettin your polka dot on anyway.

Just saw her video on MTV this morning and been reading about her. She kinda sounded like Shirley Bassey in the video (that's good). The rhythm track was not that unique--standard retro samples--I had read real nice stuff about the production, but am not impressed (yet ?).

I thought the US release was going to keep "Addicted" and add the acoustic take of "Love is a Losing Game." Either way, it's better than the Canadian version.. or at least the promos they sent out. Mine just has "Addicted" lopped off and it's just ten tracks long without anything else added.

Jazz singer Amy Winehouse is leading the field for the Mojo awards with three nominations including song and album of the year.

Winehouse, who was named best British female artist at the Brit Awards earlier this year, is followed by the Arctic Monkeys with two nods.

The Sheffield band are shortlisted for best song and best live act, where they face veteran rock group The Who.

Bob Dylan's US chart topper Modern Times is in the running for best album.

'Sky the limit'

Reader of Mojo magazine and users of their website handed two nominations to Texas rock group Midlake, in the best album and breakthrough act categories.

Other nominees in the song of the year category are The Gossip for Standing In The Way of Control and Scottish band The View for Same Jeans.

Singer Johnny Cash is posthumously nominated for catalogue release of the year, for the reissue of his 1969 concert at San Quentin.

This is his second nomination in a row in the category, while he gained two further nods in last year's shortlist.

The Mojo awards ceremony will take place in London on 18 June, at which the magazine will bestow a number of honours including the Hall of Fame and lifetime achievement awards.

There's so much to love on Back to Black, not least the nerve (and skill) to write a great new song on the backing track of an old one (Tears Dry/Ain't no Mountain High) and have it sound genuine and personal instead of just a gimmick.

god, I thought that movie looked pointless and clueless, didn't realise it was absolutely fucking poisonous as well.
I really wanted to dislike Amy at the time because her stuff was popular with the dummies, but I made the mistake of listening to Back to Black and realised what a great artist she was. Likewise shocked and angry at her death.

First album is a banger too, I think I prefer that one. I saw her in Brighton just before Back to Black came out and it was scary how different she seemed by then - basically had a few mental breakdowns between songs too :( It was still a very good gig.

I liked the actor who play Amy in this film when she was in the Industry TV series… but I don’t have much confidence in this Biopic being good.

I saw Amy play just once, Bestival 2008. She was over an hour late on stage and could barely stand. She sung about 20% of the songs, putting the mic in front of the audience to sing the rest. Her band were very professional, but it was all just really sad, it was obvious she didn't want to be there and shouldn't have been there.
