Voted for "Marry The Night." Still my favorite track (structurally, it reminds me of Bowie more than anything else). Wish this would have been the second single instead of "Judas"

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 01:32 (thirteen years ago)

"Marry The Night" was supposedly going to be the lead single before she wrote "Born This Way" -- kind of suspect the reaction to the album would've been just as deflating, if not moreso, if that had happened

some dude, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 01:34 (thirteen years ago)

u know, my boyfriend always gets me into marry the night when i'm drunk and then i walk away feeling like i was just forced to dance at a batmitzvah or something

surm, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 01:35 (thirteen years ago)

why are all the people who Care About Lady Gaga so quick to write off her first actually interesting record

― thomp, Tuesday, August 7, 2012 3:11 PM (5 hours ago) Bookmark

Probably because the people who Care About Lady Gaga thought her earlier stuff was more interesting?

torn between "highway unicorn" and "heavy metal lover"

contenderizer, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 06:04 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think it has shit songs (though I don't know the three bonus tracks), just too many of them. The sequence might be wrong too. By the time you get to "Highway Unicorn", you feel exhausted.
Also I think "Hair" should've been a single, with a radio edit. My other favorites are "Scheiße", "Goverment Hooker" and "Bloody Mary".

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 9 August 2012 05:15 (thirteen years ago)

garibay is a terrorist

someone needs to look at that guy's history as a pop songwriter/producer and explain to me how he became the right hand man for this album

the RedOne tracks on this shit all over everything, "you & i" and "edge of glory" excepted. but even those pale in comparison to the RedOne singles off the first two records.

i mean i love "dance in the dark" but jesus

tauheed & cambria (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 9 August 2012 05:22 (thirteen years ago)

????

I don't really see any gap in quality between the Garibay and RedOne stuff on this album. And Garibay's history looks fairly undistinguished but not in a way that screams "run, run away"

REV LION (The Reverend), Thursday, 9 August 2012 08:15 (thirteen years ago)

Straight up lunacy.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:11 (thirteen years ago)

these are amazing, all-over-the-map results that exactly confirm lex's comment: "the one thing i find interesting about BTW is how everyone agrees it's patchy, a mess etc, but everyone's favourites and least favourites are completely different - absolutely no consensus WHICH the stand-out tracks are."

But I am glad to see "You and I" doing so well, especially against presumed favorite "Edge of Glory!"

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:38 (thirteen years ago)

DITTO !!

surm, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:43 (thirteen years ago)

altho i think the lack of votes for Edge, given how Great it is, says something about the album as a whole

surm, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:44 (thirteen years ago)

Nothing against "Edge" btw - I think it's a real spirit-raiser - but I'm a sucker for a good old fashioned story song with an emotional punch to it and "You and I" really delivers.

Did we ever discuss the weird phenomenon of there being like a billion versions, each dubbing over "Nebraska" with the local radio jurisdiction?

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:45 (thirteen years ago)

haha no, i never heard of that!

some dude, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:47 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, yeah! And then someone told me that "Nebraska" was personal Gaga code for this particular lover/mentor figure, ie the guy in the song, making it a really insane substitution, but I never checked into that. I've heard it as "Columbus" and then on a road trip, the very awkward "Detroit," which...yeah, not enough syllables there.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:49 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, the umlaut in the title is a nod to Lüc Carl, who's from Nebraska

some dude, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 01:59 (thirteen years ago)

woah all this information

well garibay did basically the entire album... RedOne's three tracks were all high up on this poll

& none of that even accounts for RedOne's history with gaga

tauheed & cambria (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 02:14 (thirteen years ago)

as someone who constantly hears or claims to hear vast differences between tracks by different producers on an album i really can't perceive any distinction between who did what on this album

some dude, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 02:20 (thirteen years ago)

Same.

Eric H., Wednesday, 15 August 2012 02:29 (thirteen years ago)

Were some of the "Scheiße" votes meta?

hahaha müah!

surm, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 02:37 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, this album has a really consistent sound and feel IMO, which is maybe why it grates a little bit - there's something relentless about it, compared to Fame Monster, which is obviously shorter by a long shot, but also, the sonic variety between even "Bad Romance," "Telephone," "Speechless" and "Teeth" is really refreshing. Maybe that makes it more a "collection of songs" than an "album" but I like collections of songs.

well whatever. they ended up being better is the point.

I would gladly give back the entirety of this album to have never had to read anyone's thoughts on it.

Eric H., Wednesday, 15 August 2012 02:56 (thirteen years ago)

i mean the three RedOne tracks were all in my top 5 so i can't disagree

maybe you should open different threads, just a suggestion

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 03:07 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't know that about the different versions or the umlaut either!

the sonic variety between even "Bad Romance," "Telephone," "Speechless" and "Teeth" is really refreshing

one of the things that makes the fame monster so impressive is that it's never less than a coherent, unified package even when it's about as stylistically diverse as gaga has ever been

lex pretend, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 07:16 (thirteen years ago)

anyway, good two winners

lex pretend, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 07:16 (thirteen years ago)

"Heavy Metal Lover" is very Confessions-era Madonna.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 22:16 (thirteen years ago)

eight years pass...

i'm gearing up for a bit of a vinyl purge and i'm afraid this one is gonna go. if it was just a single disc of the best songs it'd be an undeniable Gaga masterpiece but the filler exhausts me. i don't even think the songs are that bad, but the production is very in-your-face and samey so it's hard to just take the album tracks as breathers in between the bangers.
