ilx is apparently not big on east coast hardcore

Then nominate it. I thought hardcore might dominate the poll but honestly got no idea what will. But thats fun innit?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

lol, i'm not big on it either. just sort of a funny omission. figure someone here has to know and love the stuff.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 23:19 (thirteen years ago)

The Three O'Clock - Arrive Without Travelling

timellison, Thursday, 2 August 2012 02:57 (thirteen years ago)

Are the Jam eligible or ineligible because of the Rickenbacker?

Never got an answer on the Feelies.

timellison, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

tim you are more butthurt than a tory mp in a dungeon in soho

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

any no to the feelies and no to 80s the jam

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:04 (thirteen years ago)

Cheers.

timellison, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:07 (thirteen years ago)

Three O'Clock were pretty rocking, though. Drummer sounded like he was playing in the Sweet or something and pretty punchy guitar on stuff like "Her Head's Revolving."

timellison, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:08 (thirteen years ago)

Always meant to listen to them so will get back to you on them.
ps its nothing personal knocking back album noms.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:11 (thirteen years ago)

And all of that stuff will be eligible for a follow up indiepop/college rock poll

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:12 (thirteen years ago)

It's a subject I'm interested in, anyway. I just wonder if there are inconsistencies - I mean why no Jam yes Lyres?

timellison, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

i nominated lyres. don't mess.

contenderizer, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

plus they garage. is rocks by definition.

contenderizer, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:23 (thirteen years ago)

Or like I wonder if Sire-era Flamin Groovies would have been eligible.

timellison, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:24 (thirteen years ago)

Raoul Duke (ku4u1u), Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:45 (thirteen years ago)

dammit

plus i already tried with the beastie boys. no go, apparently. assume the same will apply to NWA.

contenderizer, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:55 (thirteen years ago)

though the logic by which an "albums that rock" poll includes the likes of foetus and (perhaps) skinny puppy while excluding the beastie boys and run-DMC will forever be obscure to me....

contenderizer, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:57 (thirteen years ago)

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Freaky Styley
Fishbone - Truth and Soul

contenderizer, Thursday, 2 August 2012 03:59 (thirteen years ago)

So how does this work, are we just suggesting albums for a poll that will come at a later date?

Raoul Duke (ku4u1u), Thursday, 2 August 2012 04:08 (thirteen years ago)

though the logic by which an "albums that rock" poll includes the likes of foetus and (perhaps) skinny puppy while excluding the beastie boys and run-DMC will forever be obscure to me....

Yeah, I thought I got it until Flowers of Romance was OK.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 2 August 2012 04:14 (thirteen years ago)

yeah rocky a poll is forthcoming just need to arrange when we can actually do the results due to another poll that's out there. Nominations usually last 2 weeks then we vote,so the voting will last until we can do the results. But the voting period is normally 2 weeks, but mightbe longer this time. Will need to wait and see.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 12:46 (thirteen years ago)

Did we have a yes or no on live albums?

emil.y, Thursday, 2 August 2012 12:52 (thirteen years ago)

i'm not sure. i guess why not

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

I voted for Y&T's Open Fire which is a live album

though if it got bounced I doubt it'd be for that reason alone, lol

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 2 August 2012 15:28 (thirteen years ago)

Can a live album not rock? Can a various artists comp not rock? SO MANY RULES.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)

SO MANY TROLLS

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:19 (thirteen years ago)

I'm honestly not trolling. Trolls don't have any interest in the topic they troll. I'm interested in this. I just wonder what the justification is for disqualifying perfectly reasonable things (like v/a comps, soundtracks) on what amounts to a personal preference. Rock's not about rules.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

(Also, Beastie Boys, Run-DMC and Public Enemy are all three squarely positioned in the rock canon, but I won't go there with you over that.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

(I mean, if The Boss is disqualified, there's no way to convince you those three acts belong.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

you do it every poll i run. its part of the poll tradition now. Along with you saying we fix the results..

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

Stop, Kerr. I'm not trolling. And I've apologized for that accusation now a hundred times, and if you bring it up again it's going to start making YOU look bad.

My point is this...being more inclusive with nominations rather than exclusive makes these totally meaningless exercises more fun and less contentious. It's not like we're engaging in geoglobal politics here. It's a poll on a music forum.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 August 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

plus that's kerry on "no sleep" and "fight for your right"

KERRY
