It occurs to me that the criteria for eligibility seem pretty similar to those for Stairway to Hell (except that Run DMC made it into that iirc?).

xpost Ha, Kix nom!

The Pretenders - Pretenders II
Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance
Y&T - Open Fire (live)

the last vote's just for my own amusement

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:47 (thirteen years ago)

How completist are we being with this? Cuz if they're going to have representation as artists, Bathory's s/t and Blood Fire Death really need to be on there, as do Venom's Black Metal and At War With Satan, plus a lot of other things from other artists I'm sure. Is the concern excessive vote-splitting?

Clarke B., Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)

I meant like, soundtracks.

how's life, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)

or like, flex your head or something

how's life, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)

Not at all. Nominate it all.

Im not sure with soundtracks. I guess if its a soundtrack by the one artist and you wanna vote for it then its fine. (things may change once i see whats nominated obviously)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:52 (thirteen years ago)

Can i remind you all to nominate tracks here Pfunkboy, Viceroy & emil.y productions present: the most rockingest tracks of the 1980s poll NOMINATIONS THREAD

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:52 (thirteen years ago)

^ i've nominated a few comps: the avengers s/t, the cramps bad music for bad people, and the pagans buried alive. each is the artist's definitive release, and none announces itself as a comp.

the avengers album was for ages the only full-length one might hope to find by the band, and while the pagans did put out one "proper album" during their lifetime, they've always been known for the clutch of singles collected on buried alive. bad music for bad people is thee essential cramps album, and none of these bands ever really had "hits" anyway.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)

I think genre polls are more forgiving where comps and/or soundtracks are concerned. Or they should be, at least.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:56 (thirteen years ago)

― Clarke B., Wednesday, August 1, 2012 8:50 AM (3 minutes ago)

yes, the concern is vote-splitting. i nominated venom's in league with satan because it's my favorite venom album. i was hoping it would be the only venom album nominated, cuz that'd give it a better shot at finishing high, but if other people prefer black metal or w/e, then i figure they'll nominate it. the goal shouldn't be complete representation of an artist's output, it should be complete representation of the shit that ILM posters love above all else.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

derp, venom's in league with satan WELCOME TO HELL, ffs

contenderizer, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

i do especially love that song, though

contenderizer, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

Unless others object then I guess those comps can count. Doesnt mean ALL comps are though. Will play it by ear.

Im happy for noms to be completist. Nothing worse than people complaining that their fave album ever ,that they could not be arsed to nominate , isnt included.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

Not a popular choice, but Possessed is probably my fave! I'll vote for any Venom record on the list, though. I'm new to contributing to these, so I'm still getting the strategy straight.

Clarke B., Wednesday, 1 August 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

Hi folks! Apparently I'm helping run this thing. Anything I can do for you? Warm Towells? Tea? Coffee?

Would the Feelies qualify or do they not have ugly enough guitar tones?

timellison, Wednesday, 1 August 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

Beat Happening – Beat Happening

lmao

― cock chirea

lol, sorry, I copy and pasted from my 'best indie albums' list and forgot to remove that one. It's definitely too twee, lo-fi, for this poll. Please remove it.

This crossed my mind as well, but I decided they flop too much to rock enough for this list.
