I love that the wookiefoot thread is for some reason plagued with relentless typos
almost like there is an energy field compelling all posters to ~improvise~ with words

haa a friend told me a story of ending up at a party and finding out it was all wookiefoot people. like, "everyone was really friendly but there were a lot of backrubs and nobody wanted me to leave. it was like amway or something."
Uh.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2012 19:49 (thirteen years ago)
cabbage reminded me of sage
he was literally camping in a van in the driveway w/ like five hippie girls (his age) who always looked wide-eyed and freaked-out unless he was there, i think he was giving them lots of cheap acid and brainwashing them, no joke, we had to kick them out after a couple weeks but he would always stop by to use the bathroom and offer us dirtweed in exchange for food

xp late great: I wonder if Sage knew Dress, a guy with the same m.o. who lived in West Oakland, who regularly wore dresses
― sarahell, Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)
possibly, he was definitely a player in the rainbow family scene. i don't know if i remember Dress - not the long bearded ex-journalist dress-wearing old dude who lives around berkeley campus and was unofficial king of the campus garbage can drum circle? this was way back when, i was there 95-01.
there were a couple of 60s beach boys / jack kerouac looking burnout acid heads (my age) that he would come around with and i still see those guys in the mission and around east side of golden gate park occasionally, they always give me this look like I KNOW THAT GUY but the circuit doesn't quite connect.

you guys, I have a college friend getting married in the Cities at the end of August, is it too much to hope that he got WOOKIEFOOT to be his reception band
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)
I don't think it's too much to ask that you attend a WOOKIEFOOT show while you're in town and report back to us.

i meant the upper haight, not the mission
standing in front of el balazo playing guitar for burrito money
did el balazo close?

This artist does not have any upcoming shows...
I should be like ;_; but really I'm like ^_^
― keeping things contextual (DJP), Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:24 (thirteen years ago)
El Balazo better not have closed. (Was open last time I was in town.)
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)
Find out where the Wookiefoot bar is and hang out there in case they jump onstage for an impromptu ~jam sesh~.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)
DJP if you do that and there is a jam sesh and you go on stage and jam with Wookiefoot, I don't know, I will give you like $200.

My knowledge of the existence of Dress occurred around 2001. He was a friend's downstairs neighbor and kinda a controlling dick.
xp - I went to Amoeba SF a couple months ago and Balazo appeared to be shut down.

Full disclosure: The author of this post is eating an El Balazo carnitas super burrito as she writes this. And it's delicious.

n.b. I was there the day of the Haight St. Fair. (I did not know that the Haight St. Fair was going on until too late.) I did have some pretty delicious lemonade, so I can't condemn it totally. I think I must have been out of town for it the year I lived in the Haight.
― sarahell, Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)
i wonder if they went to jail for 2m in unpaid taxes or for hiring 70 undocumented workers, my guess is if they'd paid the taxes they'd be facing a lighter penalty
― the late great, Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)
Working in a MN record store for many years meant having to hear lots of dudes tell me about Wookiefoot. "I guess their singer spends a lot of his time in Peru. A lot of their lyrics are based on his experiences there." (actually this mighta been the Big Wu.) Selling tickets for all those Harmony Park fests was the fuckin worst.
― alternative riff (CharlieS), Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:45 (thirteen years ago)
there is also moe. moe. the band with a period.

You guys think Mpls is all "Husker Du! Prince! The Two Guys Who Did "Little Dog"! Replacements!" but really everyone is all "Wookiefoot! Big Wu!"
― chr1sb3singer, Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:48 (thirteen years ago)
I definitely think that third one a lot.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)
Do The Two Guys Who Did "Little Dog" have crazy creatures on stilts though
― tylerw, Thursday, 26 July 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)
I also assume everyone is actually from Brainerd but moved to Mpls for the big city allure.

If Lee Scratch Perry and Deadmau5 died, went to heaven, and recorded an album with Bradley Nowell and Jerry Garcia, they’d end up with something like Jon Wayne and The Pain’s new full length album “Surrender”.
