The best song from 1990 was Dub Be Good To Me. A special year in my heart. I got a radio for Christmas '89 and it was the first step into appreciating music. I got Now 17 with my pocket money and by mid-year was keeping an insanely keen eye on the pop charts. A wholly overlooked year for pop.

I was gonna say 3AM Eternal, but that was '91 now I check.

Eric B & Rakim - Let the Rhythm Hit Em is another one of my favorite's from 1990, and might have been my favorite at the time, but I liked some much that year that it's hard to say.

_Rudipherous_, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 14:28 (eleven years ago) link

i was pretty deep into that album at the time.

youtube comment on a Technotronic track:

if we still danced like that in every video like we did in the 90s the obesity problem in america would be solved

A couple of my favorite 1990 songs that I didn't hear until much later:

Grupo Niche - Cielo de Tambores
Willie Rosario - Anuncio Clasificado (Damelo)

Orbital: Chime
Primal Scream: Loaded
FAB: Thunderbirds Are Go!*
Family Stand: Ghetto Heaven
House Of Love: Shine On
Don Pablo's Animals: Venus*

Adamski: NRG

*I was 9 yrs old, okay?

1990 was unheralded because it was the last year that you could pinpoint tracks that fell between classic 80s electro and 90s rave/club music - Killer and Got To Have Your Love are good examples tracks that fall between that category.

Also, loved this at the time, and still like it--probably my favorite PTV acid house song, in this particular mix:

I would place 1990 #2 behind 1972 as all time years

btw Wicked Game was on the 1991 year-end chart

"It Must Have Been Love" is a terrific pop ballad.

Agreed. I think I appreciate it more now than I did in 1990.

that year:

Meat Beat Manifesto released 99%
TKK released Confessions of a Knife
Nitzer Ebb released Showtime
KMFDM released Naive
Skinny Puppy released Too Dark Park
Renegade Soundwave released In Dub
Severed Heads released "Big Car" (remix)

"Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave)" >>> "It Must Have Been Love"

would cite "Dangerous" for a Roxette hit from 1990.

Suzanne Vega & DNA Remix, "Tom's Diner"

Maybe the most 1990 song possible.

GET OUTTA MY WAY GET OUTTA MY LIFE

It peaked at #2 in early '90 though.

A little souvenir of a terrible year.

(Had "It Must Have Been Love" stuck in my head off and on today at work, so I'm kind of annoyed with it again, though I still think it's "objectively" good.)

Mama Gave Birth To The Soul Children - Queen Latifah & De La Soul

Forgot about this - everything about it, the title, the video with its lurid superimposed colour scheme, the whole steez is early '90s encapsulated.

I am as corny indie as they come and so it's remarkable to me that "Groove Is In The Heart" and "Everybody Everybody" stand so far above the rest for me, competing only with "Here's Where The Story Ends."

But yeah, this thread is an unrelenting wave of "Wait, THAT TOO?"

I'll mention "You Are Loved" by Blue Aeroplanes, which I really, really like, but which probably wouldn't crack my top 10 of songs mentioned here.
