ask him "what's the longest Dj set you've ever played"

― ❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Monday, 17 September 2012 16:27 (twelve years ago) link
how does it feel going from fame and adulation to obscurity and scorn?
is it true you mime along to prerecorded dj sets? and that your live show is actually a dude in a harvey mask?
how does it feel being a pioneer of the "all digital" mp3 scene? do you ever feel inadequate compared to vinyl DJs?
Alex Patterson of the orb and mixmaster Morris can dj with their feet, what can you do?
your son called you a fag, did you belt him?

how do you feel about answering questions not devised by your interviewer?

so tired of the, the whole "I'm interviewing (x) anybody have any questions" thing... method of bragging. Who the fuck solicits interview questions?

Convince a Harvey sceptic, any mixes I need to listen to?
― Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 12:47 (twelve years ago) link
The Sarcastic Disco volumes, the old mixes he did for Radio 1, Late Night Sessions, his Beats in Space mixes, I've got a few more somewhere but can't remember what they are. All the pre *the NAME the BRAND DJ HARVEY* stuff you'll find much better if you like your mixes straight up selections and straight mixing. After that it's all fancy mixers and tape effects and tripped out crusty vibes.
I think I'm alone in thinking that his RA 300 mix was like the best thing that site has ever done. Such a challenging and engaging mix, lots of weirdo deep noisy tribal stuff mixed and paced masterfully, lots of moments, a proper trip.

his Beats in Space mixes,
NOT HIS LAST ONE.
he's done this week's I think, tho: http://www.beatsinspace.net/playlists/643
not listened yet but perhaps he doesn't talk for 90 minutes this time.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 15:19 (twelve years ago) link
BIS tweeted about it: "Here is last nights BIS w/ DJ Harvey talking about his UK shows, Gary Stewart, Larry Levan, David Mancuso, Drugs, etc: beatsinspace.net/playlists/643" so sounds like an interview

not sure if either of these are the same as the "300" mix mentioned upthread but they're both awesome:

RA 300 was episode 300 of the Resident Advisor RA mix podcast, posted a few months ago; those two are BBC Radio mixes from the 90s, going by the URLs

Had a great chat with him tonight, such an easy/enjoyable person to interview...gives you gold with minimal prodding.
Flopson: Harvey bought the Amadeo record for something like a quarter of a cent in Greece, allegedly, and is glad that he's helped it become a cult classic.

Didn't make it to the end of the show last night but had an absolute blast. He was playing Sapphire by Zombi when I walked in...hearing a record that sonically gorgeous on a soundsystem that good was pretty much orgasmic. He also dropped an insanely long/insanely incredible edit/remix of I'm a Man by Spencer Davis Group (which I think is the I'm a Man/Yeke Yeke single by Clubhouse) which absolutely destroyed the place. Yeah, great stuff, nice'n'housey at the start then went full on disco. The crowd were good too, pretty much everyone seemed to be there because they wanted to be there and not because it was the hottest ticket in town.
Obviously Harvey looked as cool as ever. Shame I wasn't allowed to thank him for giving up his time the other week to do the interview with me.
Any other ILXors there?

Stayed till just after 4, but then tired legs got the better of me. It was amazing...
the soundsystem and venue were perfect for this gig...

Looks as though I might have had the same cynical pessimism followed by regret for Harvey @ Oval Space as I had for the Olympics. Still holding out for a residency at Plastic People or similar.

Interesting that some people hated the sound:

tracer hand and i were also there! he sacked off after a while but i stayed until about 4.30 making dancefloor-friends with strangers.
i thought the sound was good but it definitely depended on where you were in the room - there were a few places of gorgeous clarity, a few places with a bad echo, a few places where it was frankly tinny.
