i tried to fix my lighting on audacity but finally had to be like "fuck it"

da croupier, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 22:50 (thirteen years ago)

uuuuuuuuuugh, i want my track deleted. the really fucking annoying high pitched "click" that persists throughout the entire track is supposed to be a low-pitched percussive bass tone. actually, it IS a low pitched percussive bass tone on headphones (never mixing anything on these headphones again), but out of laptop speakers it is a terrible, terrible noise. and everything else sounds terrible too. i'm really embarrassed and i wish there was a way to delete my track. :( i should have listened to it out of laptop speakers before submitting because that's the way music is heard these days, pretty much.

your friend, (Z S), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:03 (thirteen years ago)

really loving everyone else's tracks, by the way!

your friend, (Z S), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:03 (thirteen years ago)

lol Z S, you have described exactly how I feel about what I submitted (on "Pulleys", half of the percussion tracks were somehow muted when I was generating the final MP3 and I didn't notice until the next day!)

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:07 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, it's such a bummer! i mean, it wasn't that good of a track anyway, but that terrible noise is actively irritating and almost painful to endure. last time i'll mention this, but ned - if you ever reupload the file, please remove my track or use someone else's in my space. sorry!

your friend, (Z S), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:10 (thirteen years ago)

chill out bro it sounds great

♆ (gr8080), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)

wait you're freaking out over "Father Time"?????????? gtfo your track is great

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:16 (thirteen years ago)

i listened to it on my quality headphones and it sounds nice and creepy

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 18 July 2012 23:17 (thirteen years ago)

actually, it IS a low pitched percussive bass tone on headphones

i had the same problem. i also forgot to do any compression, which is kinda important when working with recordings of instruments

lyrics to "mercury man"

The man is so mercurial
Around his girlfriend Muriel
He vandalizes the hotel art
He topples the room service cart

The man is so belligerent
He'll douse her with refrigerant
When she's listening to Luciano Berio
He'll destroy her thousand dollar stereo

The man is so aggressive
Paranoid and possessive
He'll break her catalytic converter
And say he never meant to hurt her

The man will go to great lengths
To fault her and downplay her strengths
A string of epithets from here to Norway
And she sits there like the mat on a doorway

Mercury mercury man
She's shaking the shit off the mat
Mercury mercury man
Turn and leave him it's over that's that
Mercury mercury man
Won't forget what begat the begat

Mercury Mercury man
She's a goner, she's a quitter
Mercury Mercury man
She says danke, there's no bitte
Mercury mercury man
Turn and leave him and that's it-ah

Thanks for saying such nice thing about my track.

I haven't been able to listen to the album yet. (Soundcloud doesn't work on this locked down computer, the way ILX links youtubes makes them not play for me, and my home internet connection is so shitty I can barely get ILX half the time, let alone any high bandwith sites blah blah complain) but I am really looking forward to hearing it based on the descriptions/reactions people have posted!

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 08:21 (thirteen years ago)

Sometimes, the first track on an ILX comp is a nice 'easy-in' to the general concept.

And sometimes, it's like "whoa" and the bar is set high.

Today, it is the latter.

Mark G, Thursday, 19 July 2012 08:48 (thirteen years ago)

Who on earth is "Mystery Meat"? this track is the business!

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:28 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't listened to the whole thing yet but I love KTD's first track.
Somehow it reminds me of LULU I's first track !

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:30 (thirteen years ago)

B-Boy Bualadh Bos clearly cheated. That is an actual Animal Collective track there, not a cover!

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:34 (thirteen years ago)

I call shenanigans on Square Quotes, too. You clearly have Bernard Sumner locked up in a box in your bedroom studio, and it's time for you to let him out. (Again, this is clearly awesome.)

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:46 (thirteen years ago)

Loving the vox/lyrics on Mercury Man.

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:49 (thirteen years ago)

OK, Ciderpress, this is some next-level loveliness you got going on here. I keep thinking this is on Spotify and trying to star it. What a beautiful piece!

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:52 (thirteen years ago)

mystery meatz is the nom nom nom de guerre of djp iirc

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:52 (thirteen years ago)

Ah, that makes sense.

Damn, I don't mean to be liveblogging this like it looks like now, ha ha. It's just that everything on here is so great! Just got to the end of Disc 1 and AIXTC is such a fantastic closer.

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 09:54 (thirteen years ago)

Jealous now. Maresnest's Moonjock is WAAAAAAAAYYY more ~space~ than mine ever was.

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 10:00 (thirteen years ago)

Ha ha, DJP clearly has Depeche Mode tied up in a box in his basement studio, but we knew that already.

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 10:18 (thirteen years ago)

God damn. Confounded's ecstatic house piano is even more ecstatic than mine. ::jealous face::

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 10:19 (thirteen years ago)

<3 u guys

mookieproof, Thursday, 19 July 2012 11:24 (thirteen years ago)

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 19 July 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

Panda Bear keeps getting better and better. I want to smother him in electronic butter.

mod night at the oasis (NickB), Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

Um, I don't like butter. Can I have white chocolate instead?

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

thanks WCC! your track is really impressive (as are all of these)

ciderpress, Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:34 (thirteen years ago)

WCC, after hearing your amazing opener you have no idea how much your praise means, tyvm

stupid technical question; what am I doing wrong in Garageband that everything I export comes out really, really soft? I have no idea how to make my stuff LOUDER, which is frustrating

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:39 (thirteen years ago)

Hm, the BBBB track doesn't seem to come up when I search on youtube. Has it been pulled already (for being far too believable, obviously) or did gr8080 miss it when upping, or is search just rubbish?

emil.y, Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

I am trying to listen to the ~real~ Animal Collective now, but Spotify clearly has other ideas. :-(

Queue de Cheval (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:44 (thirteen years ago)

omg

Fake and gay

KillRothschilds2012 10 hours ago

can I use this as a pull quote

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:44 (thirteen years ago)

I see no reason why not.

I want to smother him in electronic butter. (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

also emil.y, try here

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

This is normal - the music you hear on a professional record is mastered, and part of the mastering process is making it much louder than on the original recording tapes or whatever.

The most direct tool you can use to increase loudness is a limiter. Limiters work by reducing the amplitude of the largest peaks in a waveform, allowing you to then increase the gain further without clipping. The downside of this of course is that you're compressing the dynamic range.

ciderpress, Thursday, 19 July 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

Whoa, just started listening and I love Karen's song.

Moka, Thursday, 19 July 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

B-boy Bualadh Bos would seriously fool me.

Overall this is very impressive and I think it will end up being better than the real thing.

Moka, Thursday, 19 July 2012 16:35 (thirteen years ago)

that high-pitched tone in Confounded's Amanita that pans completely from one side to the other each time it comes in cracks me up

Yes, this is the one I'm most impressed by!

this is staggeringly brilliant guys. I'm a little dumbfounded. If I were in AnCo right now I'd be PISSED!

that one guy (loves laboured breathing), Thursday, 19 July 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

(btw each mp3 has an id3 tag with 4MB excess padding, so the whole thing is about 80MB larger than it needs to be)

mookieproof, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

Ha that is probably the cover art at work, now that I think about it...

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 19 July 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)

god i love the smug expression on the little dog on the left's face!

sarahell, Friday, 20 July 2012 02:59 (thirteen years ago)

Cover is awesome. Still haven't heard this yet, i will listen tomorrow!
