it's funny how much analysis and traction this thing has gotten on social media - people should kiss the ground if they find a place that will take any of their cds
― da croupier, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)
so odd to see a band as obscure as luttenbachers on that list, assuming they mean flying luttenbachers?

Seriously. Some of the criticism of this list has seemed pretty dumb to me, like it's been written by someone who has never been to a used record/cd store and doesn't understand how they work.
― LISTEN TO THIS BRAD (Nicole), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)
xp yeah well the store's in chicago, my distant impression is that they are swimming in that stuff
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)
what are people criticizing?
i'm assuming it just means that's stuff that they already have in stock and never sells anyway, right?
― wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 18:16 (thirteen years ago)
i wasn't aware of any analysis really, i just thought it was more of a "lol remember Geggy Tah" thing
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)
yeah it's not a ton but you really can''t post a list of bands in a negative light on the net without a little hand-wringing
"love battery" should really be proud of the fact that they're still a stain on used bins
― da croupier, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)
i'm assuming the original list was printed out years and years ago, w/ the handwritten additions more recent
― Barack 2 Chainz Obama (some dude), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 18:23 (thirteen years ago)
I've seen this list on tumblr, and there's been commentary saying the list was sexist because there were a lot of female artists.

haha oh jeez

Melissa Etheridge and K.D. Lang being the only two names highlighted in blue is pretty eyebrow-raising, though

i think the suggestion is that "this is bad music" or at least that's what people would like to pretend in honor of furthering the meme

the grifters (i think?) seem like an odd inclusion. are there tons of used grifters CDs floating around? & yeah obscure punk comps -- that seems like the kind of thing that used CD stores would want? obscure things?

really loved the loud issue, but this latest one is a terrible bore. we've got a painfully out of touch article on bath salts (featuring a journo who walks into a smoke shop to buy cigarettes), a vague piece on waaves & best coast (featuring a masturbatory allotment for each of them to posture their california loves), a page after page spanning article on how prominent bands like to chill on tour ... i'm an admitted bore myself, i admit, being such a whiney bitch. but this one is just so disposable i really, really hope the next issue redeems what excitement/anticipation the initial 2 issues since the reboot have invigorated in me.

it's pretty hilarious to be all indie rocker firsties about bath salts -- spin doesn't understand, maaan, they're just covering it because it's blowing up right now but where were they a year ago?

that is still the weirdest thing ever done by a mainstream publication
but yeah i don't even really know what "bath salts" are so maybe i should read it. i understand today's active teens are really into it.

Responding to questions about the future of SPIN's print side, BuzzMedia CEO Tyler Goldman released a statement saying "We believe there is a unique role for print and see it as another outlet for people to access content about their passion topics... In the longer term, we're still defining how print fits in from a platform perspective."
