Fuck cruise ships

windjammer voyage (blank), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 23:08 (thirteen years ago)

otm but imo a cruise ship is better than a huge hot muddy sweaty field filled with shitty tents.

someone book a festival at a resort and I'll be first in line

♆ (gr8080), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 23:14 (thirteen years ago)

a winter non-coachella dance festival in palm springs

the late great, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 23:22 (thirteen years ago)

I was sad that I was to lame to go to afrika Bambaata tim Sweeney and breakbeat Lou at the Dekalb market party Sunday but next one is Harvey and Danny Wang.

whoa really? when is that? I had assumed Dekalb Market as a dance music spot was kaputt after Dog & Pony moved the Chromatics and Maxxi Soundsystem shows to other venues. I went to see Blondes there, it was pretty good.

***SAVE THE DATE***
SUNDAY AUGUST 12TH
DJ HARVEY & DANIEL WANG
at DEKALB MARKET

Spread the word!!!

never seen either one of those guys

dmr, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 02:47 (thirteen years ago)

I've seen harvey a few times, first was the basement of Centro Fly. That was a lot of fun.

Danny Wang was a big influence on me. I remember him djing at Open Air once, tiny "techno" club on St. Marks, back when there were "techno" clubs, real dot-com era, and they had all these video screens with animations on them. He played stuff like the 9 minute version of Passion by the Flirts and Zwei by Electric MInd. I still play that stuff a lot. Stuff like that and She Can't Love You by Chemise really sums up an era for me when I was first going out to like every time Morgan and Danny were djing and people were just starting to play italo again.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 02:59 (thirteen years ago)

danny & harvey together sounds like a really fun party

♆ (gr8080), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 04:22 (thirteen years ago)

I only made it to Centro Fly once before it closed. I think by the time I moved to NYC it was on its way out.

dmr, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

BIG BIG QUESTION (and sorry if there's already been discussion about it): Which is your favourite of the Black Cock edits?

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 09:59 (thirteen years ago)

is No Way Back a Black Cock edit? if so, that one

mizzell, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

otm but imo a cruise ship is better than a huge hot muddy sweaty field filled with shitty tents.

lol, I doubt I'd go to Coachella again but due to the fact it's in a desert, sweat evaporates off you near instantly and there's no mud

hot sauce delivery device (mh), Tuesday, 24 July 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't heard them all but I like Liftoman

dmr, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)

the late great, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)

just sayin, Monday, 17 September 2012 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

errr I'm probably interviewing him later this week (!!!!!!!!) so if ANY ILXor has any q's for the man himself, give me a shout.

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Monday, 17 September 2012 13:11 (thirteen years ago)

ask him "what's the longest Dj set you've ever played"

;]

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Monday, 17 September 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

how does it feel going from fame and adulation to obscurity and scorn?

is it true you mime along to prerecorded dj sets? and that your live show is actually a dude in a harvey mask?

how does it feel being a pioneer of the "all digital" mp3 scene? do you ever feel inadequate compared to vinyl DJs?

Alex Patterson of the orb and mixmaster Morris can dj with their feet, what can you do?

your son called you a fag, did you belt him?

the late great, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)

how do you feel about answering questions not devised by your interviewer?

blank, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 05:59 (thirteen years ago)

so tired of the, the whole "I'm interviewing (x) anybody have any questions" thing... method of bragging. Who the fuck solicits interview questions?

blank, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 06:03 (thirteen years ago)

aw cmon be nice

the late great, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 06:10 (thirteen years ago)

it was a bit of a brag, but fuck it, its harvey.

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 06:26 (thirteen years ago)

holy shit

i'll see you chicken-heads at the club

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 12:40 (thirteen years ago)

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 12:43 (thirteen years ago)

Convince a Harvey sceptic, any mixes I need to listen to?

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 12:47 (thirteen years ago)

The Sarcastic Disco volumes, the old mixes he did for Radio 1, Late Night Sessions, his Beats in Space mixes, I've got a few more somewhere but can't remember what they are. All the pre *the NAME the BRAND DJ HARVEY* stuff you'll find much better if you like your mixes straight up selections and straight mixing. After that it's all fancy mixers and tape effects and tripped out crusty vibes.

I think I'm alone in thinking that his RA 300 mix was like the best thing that site has ever done. Such a challenging and engaging mix, lots of weirdo deep noisy tribal stuff mixed and paced masterfully, lots of moments, a proper trip.

Crackle Box, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 13:16 (thirteen years ago)

his Beats in Space mixes,

NOT HIS LAST ONE.

he's done this week's I think, tho: http://www.beatsinspace.net/playlists/643

not listened yet but perhaps he doesn't talk for 90 minutes this time.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

BIS tweeted about it: "Here is last nights BIS w/ DJ Harvey talking about his UK shows, Gary Stewart, Larry Levan, David Mancuso, Drugs, etc: beatsinspace.net/playlists/643" so sounds like an interview

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

not sure if either of these are the same as the "300" mix mentioned upthread but they're both awesome:

Convince a Harvey sceptic, any mixes I need to listen to?

it's not super representative of what he does but I love Mad Dog Chronicles (heavy rock / funk / beardo)

dmr, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

dj harvey: mad dog chronicles soundtrack

dmr, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

Just 18 minutes at the start.

flopson, Sunday, 23 September 2012 01:13 (thirteen years ago)

not sure if either of these are the same as the "300" mix mentioned upthread but they're both awesome:

RA 300 was episode 300 of the Resident Advisor RA mix podcast, posted a few months ago; those two are BBC Radio mixes from the 90s, going by the URLs

┐(´ー`)┌ (sic), Sunday, 23 September 2012 02:31 (thirteen years ago)

Had a great chat with him tonight, such an easy/enjoyable person to interview...gives you gold with minimal prodding.

Flopson: Harvey bought the Amadeo record for something like a quarter of a cent in Greece, allegedly, and is glad that he's helped it become a cult classic.

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Monday, 24 September 2012 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

did you ask him about his longest set ever

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Monday, 24 September 2012 22:54 (thirteen years ago)

xp ha! awesome

flopson, Monday, 24 September 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

I knew I forgot something...

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Monday, 24 September 2012 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

gr80 do you know what the very last track on that best of the 1990's essential mix is?

flopson, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 16:06 (thirteen years ago)
