They actually shot this video in 1999. No Doubt is a long term project.

Also, they're sitting on 40-50 other videos that will turn up periodically well into the 2040s.

I like "Wind It Up" too but it's an insane choice for a lead single

PITILESS LIVE SHOW (DJP), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

there is like ONE angle you see Gwen from at a few points in the video that makes me think oh she's starting to look a little "old" but by that i mean over 30 and not over 40 like she ridiculously actually is (xpost)

some dude, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

i'll rep for l.a.m.b as a 90% stellar pop album, albeit one that can be blamed for a lot of the worst things about pop subsequently. stefani's second album was strange, there really seemed to be so little effort put into it - it was like a bunch of random shitty cast-offs she found while tidying the studio one day, plus one unexpectedly great ballad ("early winter"). "wind it up" is an embarrassment.

i only like a handful of no doubt songs but i LOVE those ("hella good" and "don't speak" and er um i think that's it). i'm not feeling this on first listen really, it might grow on me.

ok the dub outro might be the only thing I like about this right now.

Roz, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)

it's def the best part

some dude, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:23 (thirteen years ago)

I'm amazed by how much I like this!

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:25 (thirteen years ago)

It's interesting to compare it to what Garbage (probably their closest contemporaries in terms of pop-not-pop bands still clinging on) are doing with their comeback.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 22:26 (thirteen years ago)

diplo has done a track for them featuring busy signal it seems

call me crazy but i could kinda go for basically a major lazer album with gwen on

kind of par for her solo career no? it was her first top 10 single since rich girl a year before and hollaback girl right before that. at that point 'insanity' was basically her entire thing.

er rich girl came before hollaback, but still

definitely not alone

+1 great song

Don't like this band, but I like this song. I have no problem with the group being back.

Suddenly had a flashback to seeing Tony Kanal's supergroup stint with Perry Farrell and Nuno Bettencourt! Lol at wiki's sendoff: "Perry Farrell now remains the only permanent member."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 19 July 2012 00:41 (thirteen years ago)

Three for one sale on the hair bleach for the No Doubt crew eh?
This song is better than I expected it would be. Pretty fun!
I really liked "Wind It Up" – Lonely Goatherd sample! But the rest of that album was too boring to go on. I'd really loved LMAB too

Team Safeword (Abbbottt), Thursday, 19 July 2012 00:44 (thirteen years ago)

I mean LAMB

song packs more of a punch every time

surm, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)

No Doubt is just one of those bands where i have a hard time distinguishing whether the vibe is 'Californian' or 'lobotomized'

Barack 2 Chainz Obama (some dude), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:03 (thirteen years ago)

in that case i think you may have them confused with the post 1992 Red Hot Chili Peppers

surm, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

No Doubt is a case of a band having enthusiasm and the right influences but produces second-rate product. Like, these guys' music sounds like they don't think much.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

their party-rock skank is recorded by and for party-rock skanks. I don't know -- I've always wanted to like them.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

can we take a quick turn off the main road and talk about "Cool" by Gwen Stefani

surm, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

or is that not allowed

surm, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

Probably the best No Doubt related song ever.

I like the one where she wanted a simple kind of life before going multiplatinum again with their party rock album.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)

last time i listened to tragic kingdom i realized it's half ridiculous filler

it's okay though b/c that album has "sunday morning," the best song ever

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

so good that song

surm, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

i would listen to the breeders' glorious on saturday, and sunday morning on sunday for a perfect weekend of waking up

surm, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

Cool is so good.

owenf, Thursday, 19 July 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)

it's times like this that i marvel that people seem to just be kind of ok with gwen stefani as a vocalist and aren't constantly horrified by most of what she does

some dude, Thursday, 30 August 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

her voice fulfills a certain niche

surm, Thursday, 30 August 2012 18:33 (thirteen years ago)

well it did 5 or 15 years ago. pop now is full of post-gwen olive oyls, many of whom are less actively annoying.

this is how i feel about avril, who iirc some dude is a fan of

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 30 August 2012 18:35 (thirteen years ago)

i like a few avril songs. probably about as many as gwen/no doubt songs. they're both pretty terrible in general, but in specific contexts work well.

some dude, Thursday, 30 August 2012 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

and i mean to avril's credit she's never done a raggamuffin accent

some dude, Thursday, 30 August 2012 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

lol how is raggamuffin even a word

surm, Thursday, 30 August 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

ummmmm this song

yeah that is a very beautiful, poignant song

in. sane.

surm, Monday, 17 February 2014 21:05 (twelve years ago)

it feels like calling this album a "flop" isn't even right, it's as if almost nobody ever even knew it existed, and half the people that knew forgot about it within 6 months

Waluigi Weingarten (some dude), Monday, 17 February 2014 21:14 (twelve years ago)

yup exactly, whereas i still play it on my ipod on the way to boston to visit my best friend

surm, Monday, 17 February 2014 21:17 (twelve years ago)

well, just those 2 songs. trying to listen to some other now with mixed reactions...
