Are there any other mixes of theirs floating round the net?

(I've got the Flying, Take Off, Airspace, RA114, Cool in the Pool and Warm Summer ones)

groovypanda, Thursday, 22 January 2009 08:52 (seventeen years ago)

also train wreck, which i was listening to on the way to work. it's rad

t_g, Thursday, 22 January 2009 09:49 (seventeen years ago)

oops, forgot that one. don't suppose you've got a track listing for it as its the only one i haven't got one for

groovypanda, Thursday, 22 January 2009 10:08 (seventeen years ago)

They were great at Cargo last night - it was a bit Now That's What I Call Nu-Balearic, started with their remix of Friendly Fires and also played the Shortwave Set and Sebastien Tellier mixes.

Matt DC, Saturday, 24 January 2009 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

How was the crowd/atmosphere? I couldn't go in the end, but went to see Runaway there last Friday, and I couldn't really get with it. People didn't seem to be that into or even there for the music, and there seemed to be broken glass underfoot everywhere (v bad for dancing; I prefer talcum powder). Maybe free nights not so good?

Jamie T Smith, Saturday, 24 January 2009 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

Difficult to tell really because we had a massive group of us out and spent something like eight hours in there. Bit of an after-work drinks vibe maybe, people seemed to roll in early evening and then just not leave, venturing out to dance/watch bands later. We turned up more or less straight from work and had dinner and drinks in the bar bit first, mostly to avoid any queues later.

Atmosphere on the dancefloor was great though, although their music is so accessible and poppy that it couldn't really not be. That might again be skewed by the size of the group we had.

Matt DC, Saturday, 24 January 2009 16:35 (seventeen years ago)

going out with 6-8 ppl is really the best way to do it imo

yeah last night was so totally awesome. shortwave set rmx was my favourite memory that i remember. and A+ for dragging the entire group out, seems like that hasn't happened in ages...

lex pretend, Saturday, 24 January 2009 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

"memory that i remember" wtf @ my wordsmithery there. i'm still a bit fucked i think :/

lex pretend, Saturday, 24 January 2009 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

I just can't hear it....it's like...why are warm up records you played before electrohouse in 2004 now a huge band?

Local Garda, Saturday, 24 January 2009 23:55 (seventeen years ago)

I have listened to these remixes all day every day

Plaxico (I know, right?), Sunday, 25 January 2009 01:19 (seventeen years ago)

You say this like it's a bad thing, as opposed to, like, the best thing ever.

"What is so great about this clicky music that goes nowhere?"

Matt DC, Sunday, 25 January 2009 03:57 (seventeen years ago)

Also, FSVO 'huge'.

Matt DC, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

Matt DC is so homophobic.

but yeah, he's right. it is the best thing ever.

Gukbe, Sunday, 25 January 2009 04:39 (seventeen years ago)

ronan, have you heard the friendly fires remix? surely it's like the best end-of-night close your eyes and smile tune ever. i got the dj in the place i work to play it on friday night when the place was empty and i swear i was getting rushes while cleaning down the bar! anyways going to see them in liverpool next month and i'm soooo excited.

or something, Sunday, 25 January 2009 14:12 (seventeen years ago)

I would love to hear a remix of the friendly fires remix that was about 45 minutes long.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Sunday, 25 January 2009 23:57 (seventeen years ago)

I wish I'd been rickrolled. Brian Wilson is rolling in his grave.

Owen Pallett, Monday, 26 January 2009 06:40 (seventeen years ago)

perhaps it should have more gratuitous string sections

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Monday, 26 January 2009 07:05 (seventeen years ago)

lol!

Plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 26 January 2009 08:51 (seventeen years ago)

Care to elaborate?

Owen Pallett, Monday, 26 January 2009 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

i want 2 kno why u think brian wilson is rolling in his grave

max, Monday, 26 January 2009 18:51 (seventeen years ago)

ya what is that in reference to?

oh i guess the god only knows thing?

s1ocki, Monday, 26 January 2009 18:52 (seventeen years ago)

one of many problems with owens story

max, Monday, 26 January 2009 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

you say that like it's a bad thing

no amount of incredulity is spinning that into being a good thing...

Local Garda, Monday, 26 January 2009 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

The Friendly Fires remix is real cool, sure, but that God Only Knows thing is bloody awful. The semiotics side of my brain says this remix is exploitive of the listener's nostalgia, like having Tom Cruise appear in Tropic Thunder---->not funny. The corny music-school side of my brain hates the fact that the remix gets the chords wrong.

Owen Pallett, Monday, 26 January 2009 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

that sounds like the two worst half-brains i could ever imagine

Uh, yeah. I thought this board was mostly troll-free.

Owen Pallett, Monday, 26 January 2009 19:12 (seventeen years ago)

lol are you butthurt that you popped into a thread to make an offhanded one-line comment about a song and then people zinged you right back?

max, Monday, 26 January 2009 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

fwiw i think his comment w/r/t tom cruise and chord changes was interesting, it's just that having to hang around with a semiotician and a music school nerd all day in yr head sounds like a recipe for suicide

i dont know if you want to listen to it tho, it exploits the listener's nostalgia, and gets the chords wrong

max, Monday, 26 January 2009 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

am i going to like that if i a) love aeroplane, b) really, really hate - like, nails-on-blackboard hate - the beach boys original?

lex pretend, Monday, 26 January 2009 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah it was the "warm-up" thing that riled me a bit - you've said that three or four times now about Balearic/disco stuff and I don't get it. Sort of... judging fairly unabashed pop-disco by the standards of techno, or something? It brings out the same sort of reaction in me as when people turned up on minimal threads back in the day to go "why isn't this banging like Green Velvet or Pendulum?"

Matt DC, Monday, 26 January 2009 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

with mattdc here, ronan. aeroplane sound sufficiently warmed up to me.
