Saturday September 8th
XLR8Ra presents
Ghislain Poirier (Ninja Tune- Mtl)

Ghislain Poirier (Ninja Tune- Mtl) with Lazer Sword (LIVE) and Kid Kameleon (XLR8R)

The newest addition to the already classic Ninja Tune line-up, Montreal's Ghislain Poirier is obsessed with big, dirty beats, an affliction that causes him create some of the most out of control ragga style riddims, and deconstructed abstract hip-hop to date. In the past Poirier has collaborated with MC's and DJ's from across the globe, working with NYC's resident Large cats MC Beans (Warp) and DJ Rupture (Tigerbeat6), as well as Parisian heavy weights TTC (Big Dada) and London's Lotek Hi-Fi (Big Dada) amongst others.

Poirier has become renowned globally for his bass slammin remixes that continue to further solidify his title as "king of the bounce". He has remixed tracks for UK grime/hip hop sensation Lady Sovereign (Def Jam), Les Georges Leningrad, Pulseprogramming and The Editors, all to much critical acclaim and garnering him attention from publications such as pitchforkmedia.com and XLR8R Magazine. A full length LP on Ninja Tune records, 'No Ground Under', is on its way.

More on Galoppierende Zuversicht...

surely not at RML -- how would one rave in there? plus, do they really want a bunch of sweat all over the place?

Not exactly sure, and not especially: "we ask that all particpants have utmost respect for the venue itself and all the equipment within so that we may continue to do special events like this in the future."

But 150 capacity and 16.8.2 surround sound system w/ video - it's definitely RML...

Legendary Kansai-based guitarist Yamamoto Seiichi (ex-Boredoms, leader of Rovo, Omoide Hatoba, and other groups) will play a special solo show on Saturday, Sept 15th at Bottom of the Hill. The infamous Yamamoto, besides being a core member of the Boredoms for many years, operates Osaka's club Bears, supporting young bands around the Kansai area. His rare solo appearances are special events, and this marks his first-ever solo show in the U.S. and his only one (he returns to Japan the next day!). Also playing is Tokyo's dark drone-psych group Suishou no Fune, making this an extra-special event, especially for fans of Japan's uncompromising indie scene. Locals Wooden Shjips join in. At Bottom of the Hill, 1233 17th Street, SF CA, (415) 621-4455. Doors open at 8:30, tickets are $10.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 10 September 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

rad

chaki, Monday, 10 September 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

goddammit why do all the good shows happen while I'm outta town. I haven't seen anybody decent in, like, a year.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 10 September 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)

Did anyone make the long, long trek out to Bayview for Galoppierende Zuversicht?

GZ were good, but Sammy D pretty much tore the place up. Might have been some substance-induced aural hallucination, but I think he threw some Violetta Parra-esque folk singing into the mix. Ricardo rip-off or no, it was the awesomest SF dancey moment I've had so far.

Nice sound too. Wish I'd been there for Kode 9.

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

Silver Apples at Cafe du Nord on 09/20. I wonder what they'll sound like without Taylor. A friend went to the show in NYC said it was good but I don't know after being disappointed by so many of my favorite 60's acts doing revivals i'm on the fence. Os Mutantes at Stern Grove this year was one of those moments...

oscar, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)
