I know I've talked up this guy on here before, but I feel the need to proselytize his latest composition, the soundtrack for Double Dragon Neon – super awesome 80s action movie/video game synth/party guitar soundtrack radness!

three weeks pass...

i've talked to a number of people lately who have haven't heard of bandcamp, and it always surprises me...i think of it as being ubiquitous now, but it seems like there's a real divide between music nerds (who will google "[band name] bandcamp" as a matter of course) and normal folks who have never encountered it.

have a sandwich or ice cream sandwich (Jordan), Friday, 12 October 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)

Well when you say 'music, online, purchase directly' most people will think "Oh iTunes." Maybe Amazon.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 12 October 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

i think of Bandcamp kind of like the non-rap equivalent of Dat Piff, if you listen to certain stuff that's not going to be on iTunes, you familiarize yourself with site(s) like that, if not you're good w/ iTunes.

some dude, Friday, 12 October 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)

Darren Hayman's field recordings of outdoor swimming pools: http://darrenhayman.bandcamp.com/album/field-recordings-for-lido

'Separate Lives', by Phil Collins & Marilyn Manson (PaulTMA), Saturday, 13 October 2012 19:01 (thirteen years ago)

^that made for some excellent decompression after a day working on music stuff.

i released a free single last week: http://chants.bandcamp.com/album/kid-colossus-hourglass

heavy synth vibes on the A side, 8 bit arpeggios + bata samples + shifting beat feels on the B side.

I'm enjoying Monobrow's latest slice of instrumental doom:

http://monobrowmanband.bandcamp.com/album/bennington-triangle-blues

It's not going to change the world, but sometimes you just need big down-tuned riffs without anybody growling or caterwauling over them.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

that Red Venice label is local to me, I'd not thought abt it for years until he emailed me the other day, seems he's been busy issuing cassettes of noise with gross songtitles

this is also on a label but not out yet, it's Irish and rules hard, best hardcore-at-the-pace-of-early-Swans horridness I've heard in a while: http://artforblind.bandcamp.com/album/w-lfbait

Joanna Motorhead (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 15 November 2012 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

Love Owl, they just played Chicago last Thur but sadly I couldn't make it. Their potential is indeed fulfilled on their recent album (and single from earlier in the year), not free but you do get a vinyl LP with the dl: http://owlbrotherhood.bandcamp.com/album/first-album

Indie pop duo. They grew up playing in bands together in Oak Park, went off to different colleges and record together during breaks. I was impressed by their first album in 2010 (also free on their page), but this is something else. Seriously great stuff.

Fastnbulbous, Sunday, 2 December 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)

Self-described "cunty noisy drag-diva-opera house". They're even better live.

i put a couple songs on bandcamp today: http://westernblot.bandcamp.com

some dude, Monday, 10 December 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, the one thing that bugs the shit out of me about Bandcamp is there's no volume setting. It's set so much louder than my Mediamonkey, and I sometimes forget. So I just scared the Krampus out of my workmates with the blood curdling scream that opens up Estramonio!

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 10 December 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)
