i'd more or less agree w/ that

he's a pretty decent singer! the melody on that hook is really good actually, the "who would expect i'm in a drop top six" part in nice

yeah it's just a really great chorus. when he does stuff like this there's always the small chance that it's nicked from some houston song that no one is remembering, but i don't think that's the case here.

why does he always only rap one verse per song ?

he's (successfully) targeting the youtube generation's short attention span?

lot of 50's early mixtape songs were like that, feel like there's a long tradition of one-verse-between-two-choruses quickie rap songs like that.

Yea, his most successful recent songs have pretty much all had those half-sung sugary indulgent choruses. I think he's got a pretty good voice within the context of what he does.

anyone know if there is an ethos behind the cheap sound of these productions? i know it's subjective, but these days it's not that hard to make your shit sound like the big guys, or at least closer than these beats anyway. most of this stuff sounds like glossed up reason beats made in a few minutes
