there are 38 people at this show (i counted by hand) so i think we may get to cypher with riff raff

the show was predictably an outright catastrophe

riff came on three hours after doors (to 50 people) (on a sunday night) and played MAYBE a half hour. he only did songs from this year (cuz my gear, brain freeze, mike tyson) and new shit with the exception of "larry bird" which i think he performed begrudgingly after sensing frustration over the fact that he was gonna cut his set short after 25 mins.

but, what else was really gonna happen? i paid $10 and i can't say i didn't squeal like a child when riff finally came on stage. you get what you pay for, i guess? he should've freestyles tho.

the "DJ" was just some random dude on the "tour" playing songs off itunes while checking his phone and whenever he sensed the crowd getting restless or disinterested (relatively speaking, of course; no one was interested in the openers) he would drop the remix of "i don't like" and then act aggrieved when nobody really had a reaction. this happened three times. i don't think he had the original in his itunes.

riff did do one new song that sounded kinda amazing on a chamillionaire/z-ro tip. he said the video is dropping on tuesday.

i'd more or less agree w/ that

he's a pretty decent singer! the melody on that hook is really good actually, the "who would expect i'm in a drop top six" part in nice

yeah it's just a really great chorus. when he does stuff like this there's always the small chance that it's nicked from some houston song that no one is remembering, but i don't think that's the case here.

why does he always only rap one verse per song ?

he's (successfully) targeting the youtube generation's short attention span?

lot of 50's early mixtape songs were like that, feel like there's a long tradition of one-verse-between-two-choruses quickie rap songs like that.

his best shit is stuff that sounds absurd but when you break it down you realize it makes beautiful sense

he can be great and totally absurd at the same time but he's usually best when he finds a balance
