Isn't anything longer than 8 minutes "album only" on iTunes, for some reason?

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Thursday, 16 March 2006 02:13 (twenty years ago)

So is this only available through Napster, Rhapsody, and ITunes? My Windows 98 machine isn't allowed to use ITunes and I ain't signing up for a subscription just to get this. Will it be available any place like Beatport or something ya think?

matt2 (matt2), Thursday, 16 March 2006 04:43 (twenty years ago)

"Isn't anything longer than 8 minutes "album only" on iTunes, for some reason? "

Yeah someone explained this to me. I was wondering why you can never download Superpitcher remixes from iTunes!

I suppose they think that charging a dollar something for an eight minute track is too much of a good deal, but are conversely loathe to bring in a per-second rate....?

child with pots and pans will be reworking the next black dice 12".

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Monday, 8 May 2006 11:25 (twenty years ago)

child with pots and pans = surely a black dice alias

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 8 May 2006 11:29 (twenty years ago)

child with pots and pans = the best potential genre name since 'plip plop'

jng (jng), Monday, 8 May 2006 11:59 (twenty years ago)

are dfa trying to bring back big beat or something?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 8 May 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

black dice = surely an alias for children with pots and pans

"I was there, when fatboy slim played the new radicals in a dj set"

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Monday, 8 May 2006 22:40 (twenty years ago)

beat beat is kind of back, isn't it? isn't there a progressive breaks thing happening now that backs up into some as-yet-unheard grime-house genre from the other direction? i'll find out what that stuff was that i was listening to

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 8 May 2006 22:50 (twenty years ago)

it was horrible, btw

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 8 May 2006 22:54 (twenty years ago)

ok i said it on another thread: big beat = beardo house / dance punk

Captain TeenTalk (vahid), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 00:50 (twenty years ago)

and it still doesn't make any sense ;)

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:02 (twenty years ago)

but, 'too much love' (rub n tug mix)!!

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:06 (twenty years ago)

that's because you haven't heard enough big beat, jed.

FLOWING STRAIGHT FROM THE SURVIVAL SCROLL (vahid), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:14 (twenty years ago)

you need to check out stuff like cut la roc ("post punk progression") and sir drew (of punk funk faves chicken lips) ... the last wave of big beat before everybody gave up the ghost (or started producing, uh, dirty house or electro or punk funk dance) was real 70s rock heavy oriented with a heavy disco (as opposed to hip hop breaks) flavor.

FLOWING STRAIGHT FROM THE SURVIVAL SCROLL (vahid), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:17 (twenty years ago)

which is pretty much the beardo house MO, so there.

FLOWING STRAIGHT FROM THE SURVIVAL SCROLL (vahid), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:17 (twenty years ago)

Ronan I dont understand your post? what is "spinal tap" about the (real) list of remixers we have used? and what does it have to do with the others you listed? and how do you know what the budgets are? Confused.

GALKIN (GALKIN), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:25 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to think that lcd soundsystem could soon be entering a jazz odyssey phase, that could be pretty good.

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:52 (twenty years ago)

Why, Ronan? Why use capital letters? Why invoke Jesus?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Galkin I was just joking around, apologies if it caused offence. I've bought all the Juan 12s so far and I like Caro too.

I just meant the acts remixing were getting smaller and smaller, I don't know if this is a strategy or whatever, as I say just making a joke.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 09:04 (twenty years ago)

lf (lfam), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

'Get on the funky train' I believe is a re-edit of Munich Machines 15 minute disco opus "Get on the funk train" produced by Giorgio Moroder as Tim always plays it out. Proper tune!

Renard (Renard), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:36 (twenty years ago)

I thought the next DJ-Kicks was from Four Tet? I'd love it if Sweeney's came first, though, Four Tet's mix for Late Night Tales was pretty disappointing.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 19:08 (twenty years ago)

I just don't get the joke. actually the strategy, if there was one, was to move away from the same tired remixers many have been using and try and give some newer people an opportunity that many have not heard of, and those were 3 that I really like and decided on. I think Tiny Sticks from the UK have released some great twelves and so has Community Library. and Caro's album should have been more known, but somehow so few have ever heard of him. I think they all did really great jobs. The Mock & Toof has been getting played out by some really main room dj's which made me pretty psyched for them!

Regarding DJ Kicks, the mix is actually Tim & Tim (i.e. Goldsworthy and Sweeney), and would come after 4 Tet. But we are not 100% locked down quite yet. Close.

Prinzhorn Dance School 4eva!

it was a Holiday card you insensitive bigot

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 01:46 (twenty years ago)

fair enough galkin, like I say didn't intend to offend, looking forward to hearing the mixes.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:49 (twenty years ago)

i am not offended, honest! I just did not understand the spinal tap reference. it seems like a jab at someone becoming sad, desperate, at the end of their career, irrelevant and short on any ideas and money. why on earth would that offend the label, artist or remixers? We are now revising label copy to read "Caro's Lick My Love Pump Remix in D Minor".

GALKIN (GALKIN), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 11:35 (twenty years ago)

To actually answer little berzbow wow's original question, "how are the new remixes for juan maclean's 'love is in the air'," I'll say that I've heard both the Caro and Strategy remixes and love them. Strategy's very much reminds me of New Order circa Republic.

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

all are listenable in the dfa records radio on the website.

GALKIN (GALKIN), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 20:07 (twenty years ago)

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I would LOVE IT if Truesteppers remixed DFA stuff. I would like to hear jams murphy's views on buggin', Audi coupés, moet and Victoria Beckham.

where the hell is the avaf video? I MUST SEE IT!

It's kind of disappointing- the cover of the single is a still from the video. Mostly consists of some vaguely silly dancing in front of the light-up neon backdrop.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 01:15 (nineteen years ago)

well... i love the cover : (
