miguel is so good w/ backing vocals. i could listen to an entire album of his just layering oohs and ahhs w/o even writing actual "songs"

J0rdan S., Thursday, 28 June 2012 03:34 (fourteen years ago)

not sure how I'd restrain myself if I watched him record the "ahhhs" in "All"

fuck it, everybody's selfish

The Reverend, Thursday, 28 June 2012 22:02 (fourteen years ago)

Not sure the extra bit of Adorn really makes it a measurably better or worse song, but that's mostly cause it was already great.

Arch N Point also my most played 2012 track thus far.

i dunno if it feels obvious to anyone else but it seems really clear to me that "Adorn" was 3 minutes long to begin with and the first version released was truncated, rather than the ending being added after the fact. the awkward 'ooh ooh' on the original ending actual fits now.

goonrise zingdom (some dude), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:26 (fourteen years ago)

actually

goonrise zingdom (some dude), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:26 (fourteen years ago)

I kinda doubt that. Seems like his label decided they wanted to push it and needed a more conventional structure/length.

The Reverend, Friday, 29 June 2012 03:42 (fourteen years ago)

hopefully someone will ask him in an interview at some point, i'm genuinely curious

goonrise zingdom (some dude), Friday, 29 June 2012 03:47 (fourteen years ago)

ditto

The Reverend, Friday, 29 June 2012 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

Not much to add. Art Dealer Chic EPs are the shit. But hey, let's make a pact not to mention Prince for a while, let this breathe.

Popture, Saturday, 30 June 2012 07:37 (thirteen years ago)

full version doesn't make me care about "adorn" any more than i did already, no matter how much i listen that song goes in one ear and out the other

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Monday, 2 July 2012 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

"adorn" is my favorite song of the decade after "lemme smang it"

J0rdan S., Monday, 2 July 2012 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

"Adorn" is now the most-listened to song on my last.fm

The Reverend, Monday, 2 July 2012 19:00 (thirteen years ago)

The Miguel and Jhene Aiko show is one of Myspace's two free secret shows in July, brought to you by the makers of TrojanĀ® Chargedā„¢ condoms.

some dude, Thursday, 5 July 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

nyc kids, he's playing w/ jamie xx & pearson sound on aug 4

J0rdan S., Monday, 16 July 2012 19:15 (thirteen years ago)

chain the color of am0n (The Reverend), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

i just thought there was something kind of amazing and perfect about the triangulation of Miguel, MySpace and Trojan

some dude, Monday, 16 July 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

haha word

chain the color of am0n (The Reverend), Monday, 16 July 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

MySpace is such a harsh connotation, though. I'll forever associate that site with a whole movement of mostly disbanded emo acts I was slightly too old to fully understand

Use Me sounds great.

n00bs on my damn chain (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

"use me" is amazing

"don't look back" i'm not so sure about

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)

"use me" is as good as anything he's put out this year imo

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:28 (thirteen years ago)

both songs are really dense... "use me" really gives off this vibe that he's, like, in the middle of a thunderstorm or something. but in a way that really works.

chorus is killer

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:37 (thirteen years ago)

serious jaw drop at "use me"

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 July 2012 01:28 (thirteen years ago)

I need to stop listening to this off the website, I'm gonna burn out

smells like ok (soda) (dayo), Friday, 27 July 2012 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

man, dude packs so much music into just two new song; this is so much to digest. Love how substantial both of these tracks are

Evan R, Friday, 27 July 2012 01:48 (thirteen years ago)

minor miracle I was somehow able to get the Spin site to stream these for me. Never has any luck accessing anything on that site before, so glad it came through for me when it counted

Evan R, Friday, 27 July 2012 01:50 (thirteen years ago)

"adorn" is slowly rising on the r&b chart too

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 July 2012 01:56 (thirteen years ago)

"use me" is stunning

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 July 2012 01:56 (thirteen years ago)

"don't look back" sounds a bit too much like a ryan tedder collaboration or something but i don't dislike it

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 July 2012 01:57 (thirteen years ago)

so i guess the album has 11 songs, if my math is right? good number imo

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 July 2012 01:59 (thirteen years ago)

I've learned never to underestimate the dude's capacity for writing songs that grow on me. Even fucking "Broads" eventually wormed its way past my "i should hate this" shield

Evan R, Friday, 27 July 2012 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

you're a brave man, Evan

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 July 2012 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

his singing on "don't look back" is good tho

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 July 2012 02:02 (thirteen years ago)

how prince is the title "kaleidoscope dream" btw? love it

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 July 2012 02:05 (thirteen years ago)

Stay tuned: On Wednesday morning, August 1, SPIN will also be exclusively premiering a stream of Miguel's performance from an upcoming secret live show.

really excited about this, there's not tons of video of him playing live out there. especially the new stuff, if at all.

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 July 2012 02:06 (thirteen years ago)

Wonder if Miguel is paying incredibly in-depth homage to Smashing Pumpkins by naming his multi-part digital album Kaleidoscope Dream.

Evan R, Friday, 27 July 2012 03:45 (thirteen years ago)

lol i was listening to "use me" w/ the door partly closed while my boyfriend was in the kitchen and when i got up and went in there he said he thought it sounded like a smashing pumpkins song
