well they're pushing "goldie" now. which definitely has more traction nationally than "peso" ever had but is still not exactly a smash.

"goldie" is pretty bad... also seems like it's only marginally bigger than "peso"

i won't doubt kanye's desire to rip something off from every hot young rapper but it seems a bit generous to credit the hook on "mercy" to asap rocky instead of the entire sound & culture that it (including asap rocky) is spawned from

not hooks, but there are tons of kanye songs where he screws a line here or there for emphasis, including "marvin & chardonnay" and "jigga's in paris" last year, so it just seems weird to me to hear "mercy" and think 'oh where did he get THAT idea, who must he be playing catch-up with'

hudson mohawke is a critically acclaimed british producer iirc who does, like, i dunno, its not dubstep, but its electronic beats without rapping

listen kanye is sad desperate old trend-chaser, i just think screw is rap public domain. it's like when anyone who said "swag" was suddenly biting odd future even though there had been a bunch of huge songs w/ that word in it 2 years before anyone heard of those guys.

actually i feel dumb for not thinking of this earlier but "a milli" is really the biggest slowed-vocal-loop song of the last few years and a lot of its many knockoff songs followed suit, although obviously the way it's used there isn't really the same as the trad screwed hook thing

can someone recommend some new rap 4 me that isn't charting but is actually cool & interesting & happening & not just blog curio stuff. obv nothing from chicago needed
