Good friends wrapping up their first tour in DC as we speak;

A portion of proceeds go to charity...

"For the $5 dollars you will spend on this album $2.50 will provide 5 meals for those in need through Philabundance. $1.50 will go directly to the artist and the other $1.50 will go to future funding of charitable projects with HKO. Additional payment is sincerely appreciated and is distributed in the same ratio."

This tariff bullshit makes it so frustrating. Woke up to two emails about new pre-orders I'd really like to get, so I hop over to Bandcamp to pick them up. The first is from a label that will no longer ship to the US at all (says the same on their label website), the second would cost $32 to ship a $16 CD to the U.S.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but it's just one more example of how everything is just shittier right now.

better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 17 October 2025 13:33 (seven months ago)

yep, I've had the same frustration. Most recently, wanted to get the Piotr Kurek LP after reading Phil Sherburne's great review, only to find that it isn't shipping to the US. Ugh

I also have yet to receive my Real Lies LP I ordered from the band, though I'm not entirely convinced those have actually shipped

I'd like to point people to my friends' band from the late 90's, the Sunshine Club, who finally got their 2 albums (plus an album of unreleased stuff) up on bandcamp 25 years later. RIYL Red House Painters, Spinanes, American Music Club, other 90's slowcore things. These records are amazing, band never got their due.

nice to see it

omar little, Thursday, 15 January 2026 21:42 (four months ago)

I think it's purely symbolic, because I don't think there's a lot of slop on Bandcamp (?) and people who actually go to the trouble of buying music to support artists are probably not going to be inspired to do so by AI slop. And of course a lot of legit artists are going to be using AI as part of their music in ways that are not detectable (sampling from AI split or generated stems, writing tools, voice changing like on that last Caribou album - this might be the most controversial, wonder if they would ban it?). But I do appreciate the sentiment, since the whole point is to support human musicians (and to set themselves apart from Spotify etc).

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Thursday, 15 January 2026 21:57 (four months ago)

I don’t think it’s purely symbolic but it’s not idealistic/altruistic either. It’s “we are intentionally going to banhammer all you lo-fi chillout clowns building your endless loops with slop prompts” because otherwise the platform would be overwhelmed with trash and people would be unable to find anything good in amongst all the wrong kind kind of noise

trm (tombotomod), Thursday, 15 January 2026 22:18 (four months ago)

yeah i've already noticed an uptick in bots following me that just have, like, a couple obv slop albums in their collection

map, Thursday, 15 January 2026 23:00 (four months ago)

Lol, I did say last night that if they were banning anything with AI art, I wouldn't want to know what percentage of albums would be vaporized.

I was wondering if slop albums had infiltrated BC, I guess it was inevitable that people would try, but I basically only see pages that I already follow or go to specifically.

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Thursday, 15 January 2026 23:03 (four months ago)

I don't think there's a lot of slop on Bandcamp (?)

There's a ton. Every time I do a search for new jazz releases, 2/3 of the feed is obvious slop.
